zainzombie
Also, Bioshock Infinite had a pretty serious and dark story but the setting and Elizabeth's cuteness balanced it out perfectly. I love serious stories when done right. To me, GTA IV was more like depressing than serious. What I am about to say will probably be an unpopular opinion but Max Payne 3 was downright depressing. GTA Iv was no way near MP3 story when it comes to depressing, but it still was pretty depressing. The entire Max Payne franchise is depressing, thankfully the stories are told in a unique way & it works. I have no doubt they've taken many things from that game, but relentless nihilism is probably not one of them. I thought RDR struck a great balance between serious & humorous. The absurdity of modern life in LA's sprawl & especially around the media industries that define it, will mean a game that's a lot wackier than IV's story & setting. For some reason, I believe Franklin will have the most 'serious' storyline. Michael's family looks like a hoot & I'm really looking forward to interacting with them. We all know Trevor's role in the game, but apparently he's not just a psycho, he's a psycho with a great sense of black humour. There will be ludicrous characters, but they exist in real life LA, so it would be illogical for them not to appear in the ultimate gaming parody of the craziest microcosm city on the planet. Agreed. RDR was a perfectly balanced and was one of the best stories. Yes, I am really liking Michael's family and Trevor's sick sense of humour and I hope that turns out to be like that during the majority of the game. I will probably love Franklin because of his seriousness as I will be getting the fun moments from other parts of the game. Looks like all three characters and their stories will balance each other out.

Looks like all three characters and their stories will balance each other out. I can already pick out a few moments that show some of that patented but improved R* humour. Michael wrestling the remote control away from his bratty daughter. The guy is an accomplished criminal who will be pulling off some impressive feats (abseiling into a federal buliding to grab someone) & here he is, in this absurd situation of fighting over the remote with his spoiled spawn. Catching his wife cheating, in his own bed it seems (might explain why he's sleeping in a different looking room in the trailer) & the guy jumping from the balcony in leopard print Didier Sachs underwear. Him losing his temper at the golf course, trying to reconnect with his son & getting him involved in his "mid-life crisis bullsh*t". Most of Trevor's trailer is proper OTT fun, strangling some old guy in the middle of the street, with the guy's wife hitting him with her handbag (WTF was that all about?). The nonchalant look on his face as he smacks a Lost MC member on the nose with a baseball bat, his bitch slap is probably a Trevor specific special melee move, the "things could get reeeeeaaally messy!" line makes me smile, the underwear at LS River scene & his closing line which would make anyone uncomfortable.Because with someone like that, there's a chance that he's not joking. I have no worries about this aspect of the game. The craziness & freedom of SA can be blended with the more serious & believable tone of IV but it would take a game of such massive scope & content. Thankfully we have it in V.

Thankfully we have it in V. Exactly, I believe GTA 5 Will be in the perfect middle ground. Not as depressive as GTA 4 and not so crazy as GTA SA (no UFO, Alien Goo kind of stuff). I still think Even Franklins Story will be quite funny, even though Franklin himself seems very serious his gangbanging friends will bring in the humor in his story line often making fun of him, getting him in crazy situations, etc. Obviously Michael & Trevor's stories seem to be all humor for the most part and seems it will be much more lighthearted than Niko's story all though it will be believeable! The perfect combo.
redx165
I hope GTA V is something like RDR's story line.
Micheal Soprano
I think the majority of us have moved on from the jet pack-laden lunacy of San Andreas, as fun as that was at the time. GTA is becoming more and more like some sort of HBO crime drama, and I for one love this direction. This isn't to say that there won't be comedy galore; GTA 4 was hilarious at times, although perhaps the comedy was somewhat darker and more ironic than in previous games, and I'm pretty sure that'll be the case in this game. I beg to differ. U cannot possibly say that majority of fans have moved on from the "jet pack lunacy". Why do you present such base less facts? A lot of people still want San Andreas's humour back. Really? I wasn't basing anything on facts, more just an observation. Do you really want to go back to all the silliness? The thing is though, gta is still 'silly', just with a more sophisticated tone. If I want a sophisticated game, I will play RDR or mass effect. To me San Andreas is a perfect game with perfect balance of humour and great gameplay. That's what I loved about SA and I want that experience to be back Fair enough; I don't think you're going to enjoy gta 5 very much. Shame that you're living in the past. I chose to live in the past. There's nothing to be ashamed of. I like being able to do all sorts of crazy stuff, while at the same time getting immersed by a good plot. SA didnt have a bad plot, it was quite good with some good twists. But, what I liked were the characterizations. There were the goofs, the jokers, the sane people and there were also the twisted and evil ones. If GTA can have a good balance of humour and an immersive story, I dont see what's so bad about it. Plus, no one confirmed that GTA V is gonna be dark and gloomy and grim. It looks to be quite light hearted and have you even seen trevor. That guy is lunacy on two legs. I respect your preferences and Im glad that you respect mine ( unlike some people on these forums ).
