I will do what i've always done with GTA: do a few missions and when i have free handling i will roam all over the place. Ride the map and take in the ambiance, enjoy an afternoon at the beach/ pier, find all the roads and all the chortcuts, the buyable property, the stores and dealerships, the airport, the freeway and countryside and so forth.

Seems like most people are headed straight for Downtown LS & Grove Street. If they have GS that'll be one of the first places to check, but after the lack of any countryside in GTA IV, I'm just too stoked to see the Desert, Grapeseed, Zancudo, Sandy Shores, Chilliad, etc. to let those pass by

I am going to drip-feed exploration at the start. Tempting as it may be to just drop everything and go exploring Blaine County for hours, I will probably just go where the story takes me, at least for the first few hours.

Go wherever the missions take me. Chances are I'll get detracted and decide to explore interesting areas I pass. I'll be doing this as Trevor as soon as I can. It would be interesting if people said who they plan on using first while doing whatever they wish.

What I want to do is start out in the desert, with Trevor, if I have the option to start the game out that way.

 

I want to do that because I want to be introduced to the new Los Santos by driving into it, just the way we are introduced to many cities for the first time in real life. If I can start out with Trevor in the desert, I can get in a truck or something, get on the free way, and roll into Los Santos, taking in all its glory. I'll take Trevor all the way to Del Perro/Vespucci Beach, stare out into ocean, then I'll switch to Franklin.

 

With Franklin, I'll explore South Los Santos, because it's still kind of a mystery what it's like down there. I want to see how big it is and how many neighborhoods there are.

 

Finally, I'll switch to Michael and explore Vinewood and Rockford Hills, and Downtown LS.

 

That is, if the game lets me do it like that. The beginning of the game might force you to start as a certain character, for the story's sake, and it might force you to switch the first few times for the same reason.

Whoever the first few hours of missions take me. I will probably hold off on the roaming for a while to get a taste of the story

Walk around and find the nearest cop car or police officer.

 

Attack him or jack their car (Free shotgun hopefully!) then test out the new lights/sirens and also see what the new wanted level system is like.

 

At this point i am going to drive into the middle of nowhere and hopefully we are able to pull over other cars and things like that.

 

Then i am probably going to drive up the mountain and destroy the car!

 

Who knows, i cannot say until i have the game infront of me.

I'm going to explore Michael's neighborhood on foot, preferring to listen to the music coming out of other people's cars as they drive by. Marvel at the NPC's doing their own thing for a bit. Gonna try and get a general map of that area in my head before whizzing off into the great unknown in a stolen Landstalker or what have you.

Hmm, well I'll probably just walk around and check out the scenery for starters, see if I encounter any of the random events, just get my first taste of how the game looks and plays. I think I'll leave the countryside for later, but I can't come back to Los Santos without checking out Grove Street of course. I'll be interested to see what they did there, although if the city is as huge as it seems I may have trouble finding it at first. Not that that's a bad thing, I kind of want to get lost in the awesomeness of it all. Ah, can't wait.

I'm really interested in seeing how the environment affects the player so I'm going to the forest and desert first thing probably. I want to see if running around the hot desert will make the player all sweaty like how certain missions in MP3 were hotter areas and Max would sweat as you ran around. That detail was just superb and immersed me.

 

As for the forest, I really do hope that riding through the woods on a bike then crashing and skidding across the dirt for a couple dozen meters will stain/rubbish up the characters clothing, so I'll definitely be going there right after.

@ Trinette. I think you're right on with the fact that adding real world elements could make it pretty cool without taking the fun out of the game. Similar to like what you said about getting dirty, etc. I think it would be a cool element to add things like dehydration, etc.. So like if you're trekking through the desert for days (10+real time mins) without stopping your character's vision, etc starts to blur, starts stumbling, etc.

Chose downtown Los santos. They said there's 5 times more pedestrians than before. I

I want to just walk down the street and just see how improved the ped dynamic state machines are. What other things do they do over tha. Walk around a me sit on a bench.

 

I want to see people sitting outside of cafe's, washing cars, stealing from shops, mugging other ped's, public defacators, urinators, couples holding hands, car chases, fights between fender benders the lot.

Mt Chiliad. I'm going to find a dirt bike, ATV, or bicycle and ride it up to the top and look over the surrounding countryside.

I will try my best to fight every instinct to get into a helicopter and do a quick sweep of the map first thing. I really want to preserve the mystery for awhile. So I guess I will explore Vinewood Hills, assuming that's Mike's home, and do expanding concentric circles out from there. I might deviate to run up to the mountains and see if the rumours of snow and ski mobiles are true, but that will be all. I want to take it slow.

I will try to fly as sober as possible, until I manage to find another plane, in which case I will promptly exit my vehicle, and watch the spectacle slam into a building into a raging fireball. Parachute. Get new plane. Continue.

I havent fully decided yet what I will do first but i have a couple of ideas, I'll be heading towards the desert area first so if I can find a tractor I'll be taking that for a trip round the entire map or find a

 

quad/dirtbike and head up to Mount Chiliad and just take the view in and allow the game to transition from day to night or vice versa.

 

The wait is killing me
