ZeaLoT-RS
Hello GTAforums friends, In all other GTA games and in RDR the shooting system is automatic. In my case i always turn off auto aim at the beginning of the game, because it will make the game less challenging. Btw the aiming system in GTA IV was really bad, RDR was slightly better but not much. I think R* should make a better aiming system, that should not have the option '' auto aim''. Especially in multiplayer you should move and aim your own weapon. Not like '' Hey there is guy over there 200 meters behind a wall, but i can see his head, : auto aim on the head and shoot: dead. I prefer a aiming system with just manual aiming and no other auto aiming options
Hugef1
Well I'm the opposite. I use autoaim, for lots of reason. Mainly because I suck at games. The GTAIV aiming system wasn't "really bad" if you knew how to use it. RDR's WAS better though.

Mokrie Dela
Here we go with the elitist bullsh*t again. Autoaim is disable-able in the options. Turn it off and f*ck off. We don't need it omitted from the game just because people think they're tough for not using it. It'll be there, Deal with it and get over it. Don't like it, turn it off. Anyone who thinks AA should be taken out of the game is a giant douche. It's on by default, and that's how it should stay. When you load the game up, go into settings and turn it off, don't make the majority of gamers (i.e. the casual gamer market) suffer because of your own arrogance. Multiplay, it's a different matter. Leveling the playing field. Say Bob, a not-very-good gamer goes online, as does Frank, a hardcore gamer. AA is off. Frank kills bob with his "uber skillz" and bob, who takes ten seconds to aim, is given a terrible experience as a result. He then slates the game, and flogs it. OR!!!!!!! There's two lobbies. One for AA and one for free aim. Wow! That's never been done before!!! Solved. The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing. DlZZEE
Aim assist like in cod, auto lock is retarded. Edited May 17, 2013 by DizzeeXL
DeafMetal
RDR's was just fine imo. Have you tried Max Payne 3's? It's basically just aim assist on soft lock.
The Notorious MOB
People say free aim is more realistic but the fact is it isn't. If you have a gun IRL and want to shoot something or somebody you're not going to struggle to find your target so free aim is the most unrealistic type of aim.. the only game it really worked in was Max Payne when you go into Bullet Time or Shoot Dodge because in BT you would take your time to pick out a specific body part etc. and in SD when you're flying through the air your aim is bound to be all over the place. I think either soft lock or aim assist works best because they shift the players aim to the nearest enemy but still allow you some movement if you want to target specific body parts or shift to a different target etc.
Zeta87
There's two lobbies. One for AA and one for free aim. Wow! That's never been done before!!! Solved. "Solved" my ass. It splits up the mutiplayer community like it did in Max Payne 3. I'd rather prefer too see filters that show servers where it's manually turned on or off like in GTA IV. People, so, can change this option for the next game in their servers and you don't split the community up from the beginning.
inflamedeyeball
I always keep auto aim on. In multiplayer too. It does NOT level the playing field. I'm a level 10 for quite some time now, and massacre new players with great ease, but still regularly get my butt kicked by players better than me. d3ex2
I suck at free aim in 3rd person games like GTA/Max Payne. I use auto aim/soft lock. In 1st person shooters I use free aim.
AZAZEL
A console controller is absolutely retarded for any type of aiming, so I find it quite logical that the default setting locks onto targets. Then again, I never got the idea of FPS games on consoles. It's sort of like trying to light a fire by rubbing two pieces of shrubbery together, while carrying a fully functional lighter in your pocket. ChronoStinger
There's nothing easier than aiming with mouse on PC! believe me...You don't need autoaim if you use mouse!
Don_Corleone
Why do you want to take away auto aim from people who enjoy it? It's already optional so if you don't like then don't use it. Just create different game modes in multiplayer or make it possible for the host to turn it on or off.

This I don't understand soft/hard lock when we talk about PC versions: mouse is fine for free aiming.
TheWetPartoftheArm
So let me get this straight... OP doesn't use auto aim, therefore he wants the option removed for people who do? How does that make sense? It makes more sense for there to be three aiming options like they have now. Hard lock (auto aim), soft lock and free aiming, that way they cater to all players and those who never use the former two options, simply DON'T USE THEM. I can't for the life of me figure out why some posters here are selfish and arrogant enough to suggest something be taken out of a game simply because they personally never use it, some people here have an alarming lack of consideration for others. The same is said of cheats, "I don't use them, makes the game less challenging, take them out." Why, is someone stopping you continuing not to use them if they're in? That's like saying gay marriage should be disallowed because you're not attracted to men. If the aiming option you want is in fact there, not hindering your gameplay in any way, why suggest the other options be removed? I don't get the logic, do you want everyone else to be forced to play the game the way you play it?
groveSTREETfamily4LIFE
I'll be using soft lock. I am terrible at aiming, and hard lock makes it way too easy.

brian.
You don't have to auto aim. You can just hold the aim in a little, and get free aim, or disable it entirely in the options. This isn't call of duty. GTA's focus is not gunplay, the focus of GTA is adventure with an urban and satirical twist. It's an adventure game, not a shooting game. LennonNL
yeah, i like soft lock. Where it aims your weapon in the general direction and you have to aim properly yourself.
