GTA to increase robbery crime?

With my like 1 hour 30 min drive to work in a big (tiny) city called London it gives me a lot of thinking time. Today it was about GTA and when its released.

Basically the media, stupid parents and stupid government heads hate R* and GTA, they blamed GTA4 for the increase of violence inside and around England when it was released... the same with the other GTA games actually, that was more focused on violence with weapons, gun crime, knife crime etc.

So with this game focusing on mainly heists and theft, do you think these same people will sit there and say this bank robbery that happened two weeks after GTA5 was released was influenced by the newly released game.

Or should it just be in the options, so you can choose if you want realism or not?

Grand Theft Savage

The media blame R* for everything. They release a game, kid gets shot, IT'S BECAUSE OF GRAND THEFT AUTO. Oh, but they don't say anything when my state has a chain of stabbing crimes shortly after Assassin's Creed came out. The media is just one big, stupid ass paradox if you ask me.

Lol kids can't rob banks.

Didn't know only kids played GTA mercie_blink.gif

also, anyone can rob a shop/bank/betting shop. all you have to do is point a gun to their face and tell them to give you money. Your told if you're ever in that situation do as they say so you hand the money over after they leave push the panic button.

the Kid might not get far... but his robbed a shop/bank/betting shop.

V will cause more robberies just as the UFC causes more fist fights and playboy causes more naked broads to roam the earth.

Of course some dumbass are going to say it's GTA fault for like 2-3 months then the medias are going to forget about the game like every single time.

No. This time GTA will be blamed for the triple-dip recession.

Niko Bellic must've been from one of the non-EU eastern European countries & that's why he had to move to Liberty City.

V will increase robbery crimes, especially close to release.

There's a lot of people wanting to be the first to have it.

I wish that were true.

This is a subject I'm very vocal on. Games are not responsible for crimes. All these "experts" that claim so are retards and it worries me that they get paid to offer psychological advice. to people.

Apparently, people kill because of playing GTA or COD or AC. So using that logic, before such games existed, there was never a murder. Ever. No one raced a car before Gran Turismo came out. And Tennis, a sport that's been around hundreds of years, didn't exist until Pong.

Complete stupidity. Take a look at the crusades - bloodiest war in human history - 800+ years before computers and video games existed.

The thing is, to rob a bank, you have to want to do it. To kill someone, you have to be capable of doing it or a sick mofo. I've played all sorts of games but never tried to emulate them in real life. Preposterous, and this entire topic is stupid. GTA V Wont increase robberies. Such robberies and stuff happen everyday, but it's only when the media get a bee in their bonnets and report the "connection" that one is made.

The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing.

The thing that actually makes me laugh is the criminals know the justice system sucks ( in England ) for example - a 14 year old boy raped a young girl he then said that he got the idea from watching hardcore porn.

Now I look at it like this... that boy is very smart because after he said that, all punishment was dropped all that happened was he got banned from watching porn.

That's a true story, so if a kid attempted to rob a store all he has to say is that GTA5 gave him the idea, which any judge would jump on this to tarnish the gaming industry.

If games affect humans, you get ...

- top social skills, when playing Sims

- top architectural skills, when playing building games

- top military skills, when playing Shooters

and so on.

But in fact ... we don't get these skills while playing these games. Maybe our reaction is better, if we play a shooter game, or our strategic mind is improved, if we have to handle lots of Sims, but these things don't really have to do anything with the gameplay.

And if games would affect humans that much, they would do things happened in the game, why should films not affect us?

Films are more realistic (photorealistic games will first be out for the next-gen), so they should affect us more than games. But nobody of the politicans or criticer are talking about them, because they are already more nearly 100 years old.

Hope you're not talking about guns

The media loves to blame things on games like this, won't lose any sleep over it and I doubt Rockstar will. They have seen it all before.

Some people argue that games like GTA technically reduce crime by a tiny little bit, because people can use games as their outlet instead of real life.

Don't know how true that is, though. Certainly isn't true for competitive games...they make people even angrier tounge.gif

See, I'm not 100% with this comment at all.

I played GTA1 when I was 8ish ? my mum didn't really know what it was about but then I myself knew it was just a game.

I generally just believe people are born killers, you either have the gene or not.

Not really. It's all about your mentality. Some people with "problems" blame it on a bad childhood or something terrible that's happened in there life and so on. Others are just nut jobs that I don't even want to try and understand. Like religion or any opinion you have it's all in the mind and you are not born with it nor does it have anything to do with genetics. Mental abuse, physical abuse whatever you have been through in your life shapes who you are and how you act and think now makes you who you will become.

This brings me to my next point. Any form of media can effect your mentality. Music for example when I've had a sh*tty day and I stick some upbeat music on it makes me feel better because my mind is thinking more positive than it was. Some people have some bad thoughts already and video games, movies or whatever just fuels them thoughts even more. It's not the games fault it's the person playing them that's at fault. If I was really depressed and thinking about killing myself(not that I ever would) watching "100 ways to top yourself" isn't going to be a smart move. happy.gif

"Guns don't kill people. Videogames do."

- Jack "literally Hitler" Thompson

On a serious note: It wouldn't surprise me in the slightiest if this will happen. Blaming GTA V for robberies I mean. GTA is the perfect medium for the paranoid media.

GTA is a game developed by serial killers, rapists, terrorists and all the scum on earth.. made for the same kind of people. Before GTA and all the horrible games appeared, any crime in reallife didn't exist. That's a fact.

... according to Fox News & Co.

I think everyone blames GTA for every bad thing that happens. Say a month later, someone robs a bank in some unknown location. Suddenly all over the news "Reports say that new game "Grand Theft Auto V" is what influenced this terrible incident." and then guess who will be on the case.... JACK THOMPSON!!! I always thought those guys were hilarious. There was one thing on Youtube I seen on GTA IV and he was like "You can go around and shoot pedestrians, and even CUT A COP IN HALF WITH A CHAINSAW!!" and one of the comments was "Dammit, not I'm pissed. Jack Thompson's copy of GTA IV had chainsaws!"

Believe me... when she was going on about how the Roman empire Fell and she said some BS I was like women, please. told her how it was and she was like no that never happened.

I was like google it then sit down, she then googled it and had it on a projector to show me up. lol when she got the page up and saw she was wrong, she had tears in her eyes.

Poor women, however. I thank Rome total war for that one LOL

The media will most definitely blame it on video games. Don't you know it's true? They desensitise the youth to violence, theft, hate and all sorts of terrible things! These evil games make people want to go out and beat people up, steal cars, kill people in crowded areas with ASSAULT RIFLES, set off bombs off and set stuff on fire.

Blame it on the video games. Make the masses hate video games. BAN THEM! You're not allowed to have fun. There's no time for it! Why should you when you can spend your life working HARD every day. Is that not enough satisfaction? An HONEST hard days work, bringing back a SALARY to your family. Feed them. Put a roof over their head. Keep them warm. Do your bit for your country, pay your taxes, support the armed forces. Isn't that enough? Who needs fun.
