[III Classic/DE] Natural HD Textures for III

Recommended Posts

  • 5 weeks later...

A substantial amount of life commitments (and I'll admit.. lack of motivation) have gotten in the way of this. In honesty, there has probably been enough progress since last release for a new one.

I'll look at doing a bit of digging + spit and polish on this over the weekend and having a new release in time for next week.

Pity. Would love to see the materials released, though!

Wow, I've discovered this mod yesterday, it's pretty good.

Dingleman, you should at least release your latest work, the beta in the OP is really outdated compared to the stuff you posted in this topic from page 2 on.

Congratulations for the awesome work.

Currently awaiting for a GTAGarage support ticket to be approved so I can increase the upload limit for those who aren't fond of MediaFire.

Also would like to thank you guys for the ongoing support in spite of my ongoing work (or lack thereof :lol:) for this mod. I intend for this to be the final version unless something drastic is pointed out to me.

Peace out!

Man, this mod is awesome. But why did you put a whole txd.img file instead of providing a folder with all txd files you've changed. If I only want to replace the textures that you've changed and keep the rest (because I may have other modifications) what am I supposed to do?

Could somebody give me just the files from the mod so I don't have to replace the entire IMG's? That would be great, thanks in advance.

You guys can actually find changed files yourself.

* Get original IMG archives

* Extract files from (original and modded) img archives with whatever tool you want into some separate folders (e.g. gta3-img/gta3-img-original; txd-img/txd-img-original)

* Grab WinMerge (binaries as it's portable version). Install Visual C++ 2008 Redist (x86) if you don't have it.

* Open WinMergeU.exe. Then go to File -> Open. For the "Left" choose "gta3-img" folder and for the "Right" respectively "gta3-img-original". Click OK.

* "View" - uncheck "Show Identical Items"

* Select all files (Ctrl+A/ Edit -> Select All), right-click somewhere on the selected area and choose "Copy -> Left to..."

* Congratulations, now you have modded files in the separate folder.

Guess what? I don't owe you anything. Just passed by and tried to help, And in return got only "go f--k yourself" reaction. As it turned out you didn't even try what I suggested back then.

I'm sure that this can be done one way or another (hint: HashCheck + X-ConTEXT). I might test it properly, write another guide or even upload archive with modded files. But ask yourself one simple question mister: why should I bother myself doing it for few ungrateful kids people with a rude attitude?

You didn't get a "go f--k yourself" reaction. It seems that you got me wrong. I just wanted to mention that I have tried and unfortunately it didn't work. And also if you see one post above - i expressed my thankfulness. So I was not ungrateful neighter rude.

That guy on the gif looks annoyed so I thought of sarcasm for something. Glad that it's not like that.

Dug a bit further and found the case. Each time game creates txd.img it results different *txd files inside this *img archive. Content of these files stays the same but technically they're different (so you can't compare them by checksum/MD5). Luckily we have Magic.TXD which could unpack txd files and unlike R* method creates each time exactly the same txd files from the same content. So I unpacked all resources of all txd-s, packed them back and compared resulted files by hash (*md5-files from HashCheck, ExamDiff for comparing them and creating the list + txt editor with regex support for removing unnecessary symbols on the left).

Theoretically textures were replaced with HD ones so *txd file sizes should be different. Well, they're for most of the files but 3 of them remained the same (dam, dambase & pumphouse).

So almost same as before:

* Get original txd.img

* Extract files from both (original and modded) txd.img archives into some separate folders (e.g. txd-img, txd-img-mod)

* Grab WinMerge (binaries as it's portable version). Install Visual C++ 2008 Redist (x86) if you don't have it.

* Open WinMergeU.exe. <Edit> -> "Options" -> "Compare" - "Folder". Change "Compare method" to "Size"

Then go to File -> Open. For the "Left" choose "txd-img" folder and for the "Right" respectively "txd-img-mod". Click OK.

* "View" - uncheck "Show Identical Items"

* Select all files (Ctrl+A/ Edit -> Select All), right-click somewhere on the selected area and choose "Copy -> Right to..."

* Congratulations, you have almost each modded file in the separate folder. Now just move there the rest of them (dam.txd, dambase.txd & pumphouse.txd).

Well, that wasn't boring also found some useful utilities...

And yeah, you're welcome ;)
