MAN IN THE DARK
So i was thinking about, how killing innocent pedestrians affect main character. And then i thinked of Niko. Man what a name. So in GTA IV We have: Darko was a fellow soldier alongside Niko Bellic and Florian Cravic during the Yugoslav wars, and eventually sold out his squad to enemy forces for $1,000 to help pay for his heroin addiction. Darko reminds Niko that their squad were no angels themselves, stating that Goran (another member of their squad) was responsible for the deaths of some of Darko's own friends and neighbours, and tells Niko the reason he betrayed the group. Niko is horrified that he and his friends were sold out over such a paltry sum of money; in response, Darko asks how much Niko has charged for all the murders he has committed. Darko also calls him a hypocrite; he falls to his knees and says that Niko would be doing him a favour by killing him. He breaks down in tears, and Roman attempts to coax Niko away, observing that Darko "doesn't look like he enjoys life too much." Let's imagine, and i bet rockstars wanted us imagine. That the "friends and neighbours Goran and his guys killed" was as innocent as pedestrians on Liberty City streets. Darko wanted to protect those innocent and stand up for them. Open eyes with his betrayal, how horrible it is to kill someone weak and harmless. Did Niko learned something from this ? No he dosn't. Not even the slightest. He can go on rampage in Liberty City without any sort of remorse. But I understand Niko Rage on Darko. Even with his motives, his betrayal is pathetic. And even if Niko can go on killing innocent people, he paid big price for this. Then he lost his best friends, his squad, that were all killed in the ambush. He has nothing to live for. You do can feel remorse for him. Edited May 12, 2013 by MAN IN THE DARK

TRANEMing
I think it's not how that affect the main character but how that affect the players... For instance, you can kill Darko because you think his betrayal nothing much....or you may not kill him because of his story...Maybe you think killing him will make him suffer; or maybe you think not killing will be more painful for him....It's all up to players' choice....and R* like to create that kind of dilemmas..And what the characters do is to lead us to them but not showing how those dilemmas affect the characters... Yes you may feel sorry for killing innocent pedestrians, or you may think those just NPC and not worth feeling bad; it depends on how we look at things... Anyway, at least I think R* has been trying to lower our desire to kill innocent pedestrians by giving us more punishment and less reward if we kill them...
