Will you ration your GTAV storyline?

http://www.examiner.com/article/new-gta-5-...etails-revealed

Could you please confirm the validity of said article, otherwise my friend you're just puffing a load of old smoke.

On second thoughts, there's no need for such conformation:

Yesterday, I published on GTAV.net that GTAV's storyline missions will take "25 hours to complete" in this article. This piece of information was provided by a member on the forum who had translated an Italian preview.

It seems the info was lost in translation. The 25 hour figure was put together by the Italian site - and is not a figure Rockstar gave.

This piece of info caused a lot of discussion yesterday in this thread, which I have since edited at the top: http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=532774

I have now fact checked with someone much closer to the project to make sure the most accurate information is put out there, and updated the GTAV.net article. Here is the revised point:

The game is roughly the length of Red Dead Redemption in the time it takes to fully complete. For those who didn't play Red Dead, it was packed full of a lot of extra content, separate from the main storyline. These included things like the Stranger Missions, side activities, and the 50 unique world events (dynamic missions). GTAV has similar versions of this content in its world, specifically with the unique world events and "random character encounters".

So to reiterate, it does not take 25 hours specifically to complete. As members have mentioned in the aforementioned thread to those who were concerned, open world games can take differing times to complete between different players. In a world like GTAV, where there is so much more to do and explore, I suspect it'll take even longer than games like GTAIV where there wasn't many other interesting things to do or to mess about with in free mode.

Still, not sure why some people complained about the 25 hour speculated number. This is a lot more than most AAA titles out there today. But anyway, I hope this provided a bit more clarity, and I promise to fact check any new information that come via translated previews from here on out. Everything else in that article is entirely accurate.

Once again, research first and post later.

learn to read... I never gave that figure. I said its about the lenght of RDR . This site just did assume its 25-30 hours as its the lenght of RDR.

Still R* said its about the lenght of RDR which obviously lets you imagine how long it will be...

But people belive what they want to believe so...

I'll be going through how I normally go through a Rockstar open world game. I experience the world as it happens. I'm not going to sit there and say "Day 1 I will play 5 story missions and then do 10 side missions and then go and explore for an hour." Scheduling when I do what in a game is not a fun experience at all. RDR did it best, I would be in the middle of doing some missions and then I would get side tracked by something I saw in the distance. Mini-games and collecting (picking flowers in RDR).

Adriaan already said that was false so I don't know why you're arguing on this still. Like Lightning already showed you dude.

Also 60 missions is simply not enough for a GTA game especially in V since we now have three protagonists. An average of 20 missions per protagonist would make no sense. You said it takes GTA IV that much time to complete and IV consists of something like 88 missions if you didn't know that by the way.

Here's what you said a while back:

U can complete GTA4 in that time if u want to.

So how could it take 25 - 30 hours to only complete 60 missions? The thing is it won't (It'll take a lot less). Especially because the way GTA missions work are different to RDR. The article didn't even imply that GTA V will have only 60 missions if you read it carefully, all it said was that it was going to take as long as it did to complete Red Dead Redemption. And don't even bother saying the mission's will be like RDR (Which were relatively longer), the entire concept of GTA will be ruined then.

I usually just go through the story when I play and then do whatever I want once I've finished.

I think I might play it a little slower this time though.

WelcomeToLibertyCity

I'll probably do the same as I did with Red Dead Redemption. Play the story and of course explore on the side as usual but to "savor" it, so to speak, I'll throw in some multiplayer from time to time. I figure we'll have enough to do anyway.

Hardly, I believe that myself and Shoumic have done a good enough job at deconstructing his arguments as they really rely on information that's just a good as any random member in the V section guesses.

Nope. It's a pyschological thing, you can set mental challenges for yourself but once immersed into the said challenge you will be tempted to give up, e.g. seeing how long you can go without masturbating, you'll constantly think about how you aren't doing it which will tempt you even more, so with GTA V if you set yourself to 5 missions a day then eventually you'll come to a last mission of the day that has a cliffhanger or crucial point in the story which will make you want to continue, thus passing the "5 a day" limit. So I don't think I, or anyone else will "ration" there storyline.

Yes I will.

Cant understand why you'd pay £40 for a game and try and finish it as quick as possible.

He said that the figure ( 25-30h ) isnt stated by R*. R* only said it roughly about the length of RDR and thats exactly what I said and exactly what he did stated in his post....

That may be true for some folks, but it can be done with some level of self control, though it takes practice to master. I tried it for GTAIV but failed miserably and ended up overindulging myself for a whole week.

I was successful with RDR, and it took me almost 2 months to finish it simply because I spent my time roaming everwhere, exploring more, and taking in the atmosphere. It became my single greatest game experience ever, and made me appreciate the work R* put into it.

It's certainly worth the effort and/or patience.

I will do the exact same thing as the OP said. I always love finding the small things in new games.

Specially weapon locations so I can have an upper hand in missions haha

I wouldn't say I'm going to "blow through" GTA V, but the way I play GTA games is to methodically and systematically do the missions. I don't spend a lot of time just wandering around aimlessly. Once in a while I might take some time out to hunt for hidden packages or whatever. I'll do random encounters as I stumble across them, I won't go out of my way looking for them. When I complete the story, I'll just start over. You don't want to know how many times I've played the previous GTAs from start to finish. A ridiculous, stupid number of times.

I might start the story after at least 56 hours of free roam messing about.

I've seen people completely bust through IV in a couple of hours, but my question is.... Will you go as fast as you can, or relax and take your time?

A couple hours? That's not possible.

As for me, I prefer not to beat it all in the first couple of days. Honestly my life isn't like it was in the San Andreas days when I could play 24 hours a day if I wanted to.

My guess is I'll probably finish it in about three weeks.

I'd like to say I'd ration it.. But nobody here knows how overwhelming it'll be to resist stop playing. I could be captivated quickly to the point I might just loose myself in the game and have it beaten in a week. But with SA - IV, I replayed it, and Replayed it.. I'll get my moneys worth and then some.

It doesn't feel like waiting if you're enjoying yourself, I remember with GTA III or San Andreas, I didn't do a few missions for a very long time just because I was having fun f*cking around. I only ended up progressing because I wanted to see the other cities.

It's a shame V has no unlockable areas.

Also Golden Derp, you're not a bad member, I don't hate you or anything, so don't take this the wrong way, but you're avatar is obnoxious and horrible.

Why would anyone spend 60 dollars for a game and then speed through it and beat it within 2 hours?....I'm sorry I feel that they basically threw away 60 dollars down a toilet in that case. Because they didn't really get what they paid for....your suppose to enjoy the game not try to beat it....unless your on CFW and don't pay and then ya maybe then u can speed through it without worry about throwing money away. LOL But ya...Why would anyone not explore?

Official General

I'm gonna ration the storyline for sure.

I wanna spend a great deal of time free-roaming and doing side activities/missions in between the storyline missions anyway, so that should help to stop me coasting through the game.

Oh absolutely. There are always so many side activities to do and exploring the world in itself is a fun thing to do. Just rushing through the missions would make the game repetitive for me.

GTA is a game to be savored.

I've rushed storylines in the past so this time I'll take my time and relax. I'll play the game and enjoy the bonuses of non-storyline features rather than jumping straight into each mission to show off and say I completed the storyline.

Yes, I ration the storyline of games I like. It took a month for me to finally finish Bioshock: Infinite. If I love it, I don't want it to end.
