Lelouch The Zero
So I've been playing a lot of RDR recently, and after seeing all the trailers and screens for GTA V, this game is going to be awesome no doubt. But I was wondering what the desert would be like in GTA V. Would it be similar to GTA SA Desert, or the Old West desert from RDR? Personally, I liked the vibe of the desert more in RDR, The atmosphere was just perfect, almost like playing a western in real life. What do you want the desert to feel more like, RDR or SA? I hope it's a mix of both. And do you think there should be horses that can only be found in the desert? Your thoughts?
Miss Darko
Well, it's like the desert around LA, which is really probably more like RDR's desert (like the area around Gaptooth Ridge) but not exactly. It's not like the painted canyons of SA's Bone County or RDR's Mexico. It has kind of a unique identity, one that wasn't seen in SA since the desert area was based on Nevada and not Southern California.

brwhizz
Like the guy above said, the desert will most likely be that which is suitable to Southern California, including Joshua trees and rocky canyons.

universetwisters
I used to love driving around the desert in San Andreas while listening to "Horse With No Name"

wwinterj
From a game prospective I'd imagine more like Red Read Redemption.
SeaFoam
It seems not many people like to read my topics. That's why I don't even try to bother anymore. Don't fret man. It's usually the really dumb topics that get most of the replies. I too would love the atmosphere that Red Dead pulled off. Being out in the middle of the desert as the sun was going down with no one else in sight, nothing but the howls of coyotes in the distance and rustling from nearby animals, was indeed a really cool experience that I'm hoping GTA V can pull of as well. With GTA V I believe we will have the best of both worlds: The big, bustling populated city with a vast, unpopulated countryside. Not saying there aren't people in the countryside, but I'm hoping there will be spots, like the desert, where no one is around. Just silence. GTA2THACORE
Well I liked the desert in both games, but I would rather see red dead redemption's desert in grand theft auto v.
Sockpuppet
I've lived in SoCal's high desert, Las Vegas, and northern Arizona, and I've been into southern AZ, New Mexico and Utah. As far as I'm concerned, RDR absolutely nailed the look and feel. Based on trailers and screenshots I've seen, I think we can expect something similar for GTA5, except I don't know if it'll be quite as desolate as RDR was. Mokrie Dela
Anybody? Don't do that. Double posting is spam and you can get warned and ban for it /friendly advice Ot: I'm gonna get attacked for this but I dont care. I've been playing all gtas this last year and I've realised something SA was really compromised. In vc for example, when it rained, the ground got wet and shiny. In sa it didn't, instead a sh*tty fuzz filter came on. Draw distance was lower too and also (I'm going somewhere with this) everything was empty. Just... Dead. The desert was a waste of space, low detailed and pointless. Rockstar went big but lost so much. So when you say sa style - compromised for quantity over quality - or rdr - atention to detail and ambient - who the hell would chose the latter? Gta IV had so much detail packed into LC. SA had very little. I'm worries the maps huge at the sacrifice of that, so I'd rather a game that had the QUALITY not the size. Nb - I love SA. I do, but it DID sacrifice some things. I hope v doesn't. The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing. Click here to view my Poetry

Mário César Baldessar Moro
I agree with OP. The desert in RDR is very good, and GTA V must have the same look. The desert in Sa is not too good because is poorly detailed and with low resolutions, logic. But in GTA V, i guess the desert will be perfect. Good vegetation, wild life, lighting efects. When i imagine GTA V I imagine desert.
gonnaenodaethat
Would be great if the desert was like the one in Hitman Absolution - it has a real feeling of isolation. And an Ice Cream van hit & run Archangel0934, evelpod666, OOI and 2 others
boxmonster
Whatever this area is, it has an Old Western vibe (if you ignore the dishes). Makes me think of places like Julian, California.
