MosquitoSmasher
EDIT!!!!!! It IS all very very similar to Max Payne 3. For the people that didn't read Game Informer's preview: http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtop...st&p=1062498846 ------------------- original message Ok this is very odd, because i recall several other previews saying the aiming and shooting was definitely based on Max Payne 3. Some actually more or less said...taken straight from MP3. But now we got this preview: http://www.gamekings.tv/videos/nieuwe-info...d-theft-auto-v/ And while the previewer doesn't say anything about it in the video, he replies this to someone asking: @gkboris Is het schieten gebaseerd op de engine/techniek van Max Payne 3? Boris MOD − Nee. helaas. Translation: @gkboris Is the shooting based on the engine/technique/mechanics of Max Payne 3? Answer by MOD who saw the demo No, unfortunetely. Direct link to the comment is here: http://www.gamekings.tv/videos/nieuwe-info...mment-882429840 Rather odd really. Johnny Playert
Yeah this is not good. Apparently we are getting a lot of contradicting previews lately... what's up with that?
Monty Mantis
Yeah this is not good. Apparently we are getting a lot of contradicting previews lately... what's up with that? Yeah, why are all these reviews conflicting each other? They were shown the same demo! But I wouldn't worry, this is one preview versus quite a few others. I don't have the time for it now..cause...you know..it's 4:10 in the morning, i needs me some sleep soon, lol. But i can go take a look at all the previews from recently and see what they say about the shooting mechanics. I think there are more previews saying they are MP3'ish than previews that say its not. I don't think you need to worry about this friend, no way in hell is Rockstar going to mess up something so incredibly important. Not after the fantastic shooting mechanics in RDR and MP3. If you ask me...if it's like RDR, super, if it's like MP3...same. I honestly don't see it changing drastically from either of the two.

They are different games, but the cover system, running and aiming and shooting could work fine for GTA V if you ask me. I could be wrong, but RDR's cover, aiming and shooting is very similar to MP3 and i've always thought RDR's mechanics would be perfect for GTA V. You don't? Snake Without a Tongue
Well, what exactly does one mean by asking if it's based on MP3? Real time bullet physics? No. Bullet cam? No. Shoot dodging? No. We've seen guns in action in the trailers. They seem improved but not entirely based on MP3, no.
BUT THE BENZ
@japse They need to overhaul the GTA gunplay and at least get it on a RDR level. Compared to MP3 or before that RDR, the gunplay in IV feels very lame to be honest. RDR was a huge step forward and so was MP3. I don't see how it wouldn't fit a GTA title. RDR and MP3 were intense, the gunplay was pretty immersive. V needs that too. edit: yeah what the guy below said basically. We'll get a super hybrid of R* gunplay for V. Can't wait to conbat jog and fire from the hip Edited May 12, 2013 by Noclue_42

They probably thought the question was about Max Payne feel and elements like shootdodging. I don't think they realized fully what the question was. It wouldn't make sense to build RAGE from GTA IV to Red Dead Redemption to Max Payne 3 just so they could back to GTA IV. It will feel similar, most likely even feel even better, but it probably won't be an exact replica of those games. Rockstar's been building and modifying the engine for years, and I don't think they would ditch all those years of progression. RDR and MP3's system were better than IV's but they still needed some work and I think that's what we're about to see for GTA V.

I'm not a big know-it all on this, but is it even possible for them to make drastic changes to how the shooting mechanics are? I mean, this still being RAGE, that GTA IV, RDR and MP3 were built on. @Johnny Playert Hahah yeah i think we definitely need to call it quits . I've been playing RDR all evening and i was just hooked before i knew it. Then after i stopped playing i decided to check some threads here for a few minutes, but as always with GTAF...it's never 'a few minutes' haha. EDGE said this : The characters' turning circle is more like Max Payne's, and less like Niko's (so smoother movement). It would only make sense that the gun/shooting mechanics go over to GTA V as well. Edited May 12, 2013 by MosquitoSmasher
BUT THE BENZ
R* said they'd built a new Rage version or something. They'd combine the best catalogue of gunplay and combat movements of RDR and MP3 and add new mechanics like that roll or jog/sprint move to it. IV gunplay feels like beta gunplay now in retrospective
MosquitoSmasher
Shame on me for not even reading Game Informer's articles, they had special articles on features, here's what i wanted to know: Max Payne 3 took the combat even further with destructible environments, kill cams, a last stand mechanic, and more natural feeling movement when you're running and gunning. For Grand Theft Auto V, Rockstar is taking the lessons learned from all of its previous games to bring the combat into the future. The gunplay still takes place in third person, but Rockstar migrated part of the Max Payne 3 team over to the GTA team to tweak the camera perspective. The new over-the-shoulder aim view gives you a clearer field of vision during combat, which makes it easier to spot enemies at the periphery and while you're behind cover. Not every gamer prefers the same aiming system, so Rockstar has included three different options in GTA V: a hard snap-to targeting, a soft targeting, and free aim. The impressive death animations created by Euphoria normally make it easy to tell when a body is about to hit the floor, but the tweaked reticle confirms your kill by turning into an X. When you hover the reticle over an enemy, it also turns red to indicate the threat. When you pull the trigger, expect to have a more visceral connection to the outcome. Some types of cover are destructible, so you can chip away at hiding spots to expose enemies. Rockstar says the gunshot damage is now totally dynamic and specific to particular weapons as well. Sorry, i know this is old. But i honestly hadn't read their preview and by the looks of it, plenty of others neither here, judging by the replies about the shooting . GameKings is all fine and dandy, but sorry GK...i trust GI a whole lot more. This goes intol so much more detail too. I had actually forgotten that the soft lock, hard lock and free aim was confirmed already by previews. Those three are 100% Max Payne 3..sorry GK,you are WRONG! Killerdude
1 person said no, Everyone said Yes, I believe it's based off of MP3, Because look at the previews, it all sounds Exactly like MP3, Not RDR.

TotesMagotes
The shooting is going to be even better than RDR and maybe MP3. I love how theyre taking the idea of shooting through destructible objects enabling you to hit enemies who otherwise might be completely covered. ''Rockstar says the gunshot damage is now totally dynamic and specific to particular weapons as well.'' That is awesome.

MosquitoSmasher
That GI article actually provides nice new little things i didn't know about, this is the first time im reading this: Rockstar is also implementing various kinds of body armor that offer different levels of protection. This was in Max Payne 3 too, although i don't think Max ever wore a body armor himself, but enemies did and boy did you had to aim your bullets carefully cause those body armors could stand a sh*tload of bullets. Rockstar, give this to baddies in GTA V as well, that's going to make gunfights even tougher!

Mine was that Armor vest is an equipment not a consumeable. So for example you wear armor ( with a visible vest). So the heavier it is the more it does reduce damage and the slower you move. Lets see what R* offers. I still hope we get a visible vest
