Racecarlock
JC2's map size had nothing to do with the game sucking. JC2 sucked because its overall gameplay was piss-poor. Excuse me? Name one other game that lets me vehicle surf on airplanes. Why would you want to? Because my specific brain chemistry is configured in a way that makes plane surfing in games fun to me. Ok, it is fun, until you try driving the plane or playing the game. I learned to deal with the car physics. You know, like what you and every other IV fan keep saying people who don't like IV's driving physics are failing to do?

The fans of IV's driving always say, "It's great you just need to get used it and it's fun", but they NEVER want to get used to driving in other games. They're often quick to bash other game's driving just because it's not like GTA IV's. Stubborn motherf*ckers.

Triple Vacuum Seal
JC2's map size had nothing to do with the game sucking. JC2 sucked because its overall gameplay was piss-poor. Excuse me? Name one other game that lets me vehicle surf on airplanes. That was actually one of my least favorite features. What the hell is the point of basing a game in a generally realistic setting only to watch the protag who likely wouldn't even know how to skate board @ 20mph get out of a supersonic military fighter aircraft and surf in mid air? The only thing I liked about that game was the vast map and the environments throughout. Sure it didn't flow that well in terms of terrain arrangement; but I loved being in a map that actually made planes feel useful for once. Hopefully next gen, R* will be able make a game as large as JC2 (perhaps bigger) with their typical level of detail. At least in the next 10 years or so. I'm not knocking the surfing feature objectively. However subjectively, that's SR-esque BS IMO. Even if I were into that sort of thing, it would get old real quick. Vin89
Weak thread...you are using false facts to support your views and then you're trying to tell us it ain't about those things. So why did you use them in the first place? Secondly, that "GTA isn't about story" is your opinion and you're entitled to it. But don't you ever think that most guys here support this. GTA is is, in general, all about story when it comes to the singleplayer campaign. Maybe you should try out Call of Duty. Sounds like about right for you? Hey, I'm not asking for airplane surfing in GTA V, but it worked in just cause 2 because the guy is a specially trained super agent with magnetic boots or something. I liked that. Is it stupid and unrealistic? Yeah, that's why I liked it. It was fun and hilarious to do so.
JonRenemy
Horses for courses. Other games are fun, but regardless of size GTA brings me back time and time again because of immersive story and believable atmosphere.

What is there to learn from JC2? - Nothing apart from a having large playing area with not much else going on. - A single player environment when GTA V is built around controlling three characters at the same time. - Surfing on vehicles which you could do since GTA III (just jump on top of any car). - From ground level jump in the air and open your parachute then you'll be taken 1000 ft into the air when there's no wind to carry you - yep very realistic! - Driving physics straight out of GTA III - You can shoot people and blow stuff up, which you couldn't do in any previous GTA games It's plainly obvious GTA V has a lot to learn. Personally the physics in Mafia II are the only driving physics outside of GTA IV to give me any sort of driving satisfaction. IMO most driving physics in open world games feel rigid and hand holding. I like the unforgiving nature of GTA IV's physics. There's really no need to generalise and dumb down those who prefer GTA IV's physics. You of all people are better than that. Anyway JC2 was a decent game in its own right, but the map was too lifeless and dull for its size. I doubt R* will make the same mistake. The fact GTA V has wild life (which JC2 doesn't) should ensure it'll be far more interesting out side of the city and speaking of the city Panua was one of the most generic and boring cities I've ever experienced in a video game. JC2 was hit and miss to me. It was fun while it lasted, but in general I would say there was alot of wasted potential. I really don't care how many planes I can surf or how much I can blow up, if the core mechanics are mediocre (driving physics, map design, story, voice acting) then the game itself it just going to be mediocre. ECDT1089
So while waiting for GTA V to come out, i played Just Cause 2, when i finished the main story (only 7 missions) i completed 23 % of the game in 12 hours, my main feeling was disappointment, a game with a wonderful designed world and very extensive just wasn't exploited at it's best. So when hearing about R* saying that GTA V will be massive, 3.5x the size of RDR, you would want an amazing and satisfactory story. If the game is going to be all about Heist, how can you expect a good story? Or will it be another Hollywood cliche about bad guys against cops? What do you think? Here is a comparison about maps sizes. (i did not make it) Part 2 (i did not make it) http://i.imgur.com/xJU7Q.jpg please link or resize page stretching images Where is True Crime Streets of LA? Here is a comparison about maps sizes. (i did not make it) Part 2 (i did not make it) http://i.imgur.com/xJU7Q.jpg please link or resize page stretching images /rant start Everyone keeps using this stupidly made image to justify a big open-world map size. First of all, where San Andreas is placed it's saying that the "Lost" island in Just Cause 2 is the same size even though it is clearly not as I've actually went to that island on my main PC with San Andreas on my laptop running at the same time. I positioned Rico about the same height off the ground where CJ is and clearly San Andreas is bigger. Secondly, travelling across World of Warcraft's map takes much longer than Just Cause 2's map. For a test I got a mod of private server to send me from one side of the left continent to the other, North to South. He did this by sending me in the air putting me in a similar flight to the AirBrake mod in GTA IV. I timed it with a stopwatch on my phone and it took longer for me to travel from North to South in WoW than it did travelling at pretty much the same speed in Just Cause 2. /rant over. If you want a similar story with heists watch Heat first before playing GTA V. I've mentioned it a plenty on this forum and so have a few others too. -Wheatley
Agni
Except Just Cause 2's map IS bigger if you actually take the time to measure it with math and experiments.
