Have GTA V learned from Just Cause 2?

That map is not even correct

Which pretty much concludes this topic.

Cheers!

Really? Well why don't you both gentlemen make a map comparison of your own and then post it? wise-asses

Story son? seriously? you care so much for a story in a game, which emphasis onto complete freedom? gimme a break! leave this "cool story" nonsense to the linear shooter games, strategies and RPGs (especially made by Bioware!...)...

Not sure if serious...

...well believe it or not, but i'm serious! ...i never understood all the hype for storyline in games like GTA! all i need is my vehicle, my weapon and my cup of beer, storyline isn't that important in my opinion in games like GTA and never was! I never give two pennies when each time i'm playing GTA San Andreas about CJ's hood and families! I never care about his past and future and current! All i care for is that i'm getting better and better as i advance in the storyline and complete side missions and thats the most important!

Damn, well if you are serious, then all to their own. I personally love Rockstar's stories.

Well that's whats wrong, because if you as a Dev company want to make a great game, but you can't write a good story, well the game in the end isn't that great, there are many many companies that can create a sandbox / open world game, but create a good story? just a few.. So it shouldn't receive a 9 or 10 from metacritic and other rating entities, but like always they just give 10 to R*..

You got to be joking? Rockstar deserves a 10 and nothing less IMO which I feel strongly towards. icon13.gif

Well my friend when you grow older you realize that there is no such thing like perfect, so no, R* doesn't diserve a 10 ot of 10. They may make amazing games but not perfect games. a 9 maybe but 10 like GTA IV, No.

GTAIV was horrible! GTA San Andreas is where all the fun is!...and Thank God R* realized it and make it more like San Andreas this time and less like GTAIV (screw this realism boredom!...)

TheMisanthrope listen that is an endless argument...i still stay strong on my opinion and i'm not going to change it, i understand fully what you were trying to say, but...ah well lets just drop it already! ...what i was trying to say is that game with horrible storyline (like really REALLY horrible), but with great gameplay and free roam ability will always be better in my eyes, then game with great storyline and horrible gameplay!...case closed, lets not pick this up again please!...

Agreed I apologise theres no point in bickering over something so pointless. You have your opinion I respect that and I have mine.

Peace out.

Personally for me...I don't think any map is big enough. The bigger the better. And that is always true when it comes to a sandbox game. Most times it gives you a good idea of how long the game actually is.

That isn't always true of course but it does seem to happen.

Stories are so much better if there is an open world to lose yourself in. With your logic, GTA would be garbage because I wouldn't give two god damn sh*ts abut it if there wasn't a good story. I would had played IV 5 years ago and never picked it back up if it had a bad story. But due to its story, I haven't been able to put it down for five god damn years. Played through the story so many times I can't even joke about it.

Mindless fun is cool to some degree for like a day or two but the reason and cause for action within video games just entrails me. To this day no game can keep me captivated as much as IV can and that says a lot when it is five years old.

Ha, they added my favourite MMO to those maps. Anyway, they're not accurate, I played Guild Wars Nightfall for the better part of 4 years and the world is no where near as massive as claimed. Neither is anything else in there. It's all wrong , bah.

I actually loved just cause 2 and still do. I mean, what other game has a final mission where I get to vehicle surf nuclear missiles? It's like james bond combined with spider man. It's some of the most fun I have ever had in a sandbox game.

And there are ninjas. f*cking ninjas. I mean I would say I'm there but I'm already there. I bought this game back in 2010 and then bought it a few more times because the discs kept breaking and then finally I got a digital copy. Why? Because this game is worth it. I love the big ass map, I love the cool vehicles, I love the grappling hook, I love the parachutes. Just everything about that game is awesome.

The game is a lot of fun for sure. It's different to GTA just like lots of other sandboxes are different to one another. I've definitely put more hours into GTA but just the shear amount of mayhem I can cause in Just Cause is a lot of fun!

I liked JC2 and it was a fun game. But I disagree with the statement that GTA has "learned" from JC2. R* marches to a tune of there own and rarely follow anyone. As good as JC2 was R* didn't really have to pay much attention too it nor do i think they did.

JC2 also has literally NOTHING in common with GTA besides being an open-world sandbox action game.

So why are people comparing them again?

It's already been said, but this map is wildly inaccurate and terribly misleading.

I feel bad for less knowledgable people who are fooled by this map comparison.

Not only that, but the graphics of JC2 is miles better than GTA IV's. I swear everytime That i'd get in a helicopter in IV, the city looked like crap from above. And the falling is way too fast when you jump out. In JC2, the Clouds looked so much more realistic than IV's, and the sky color even looked real. The Mountains were also very impressive, I thought I was actually watching real footage from real life sometimes. The falling is also a lot more realistic than IV, It takes a long time to fall in real life, as so it does in JC2.

Falling in JC2 is absolutely not realistic.

I'm on my phone so I can't easily look up a video right now, but in JC2 you can lean back while free falling and practically float across the ground. The speed is far too slow.

JC2 has bad shooting, cover, running mechanics, has a terrible storyline, gets boring fast just like the mercenaries, you end up just explong things, flying planes with no reason and using your grabbing hook on weird things to see what happens. I prefer games like GTA, or Bioshock becuase they are not just fun, they are smart and have impressive stories to tell us.

The vehicle handling is what ruined it for me. It was just a constant thorn in my side.

The Oblivion map is completely inaccurate. It's not square, its star shaped so the almost half of the area cannot be accessed by the player.

Huh? Terrible map comparison. Not even relatively accurate. Anyway, no. Rockstar does what THEY want. They won't/don't take ideas from anyone else. Which is why they make such flawless games like GTA, & why other devs make stale games like JC2. IMO.

Also, I don't quite understand when you say, "If the game is going to be all about Heist, how can you expect a good story?" Are you saying it's not possible to write a good heist story? Or? dontgetit.gif

Why would you want to?

Anyway, its gameplay was Piss Poor.

Driving sucked, shooting sucked, flying sucked.

Mission structure was painful.

Story telling, what story telling???

R* do not need to look at this game for anything, not even to learn how not to do it.

Sometimes Topic Creators make me not want to live on this planet anymore.

Ok, it is fun, until you try driving the plane or playing the game.

Anyway, it's a moot argument, R* will never put this in GTA and they don't need to look to this game for anything, except laughs.
