iNero
Almost all car sounds were horrible in IV...When I closed eyes I did pretend to ride a vacuum cleaner Oh you. You hate everything that is related to IV. The only car in IV that sounded horrible was the Turismo(it sounded like an electric razor with a gearbox, lol). I thought the cars in IV sounded weak, albeit not terrible. There was no excitement and they just weren't loud enough. You'd think driving a Murcielago knockoff through skinny streets surrounded by concrete towers would create a nice, screaming, echo but no. All you got was some bland ass noise. The cars in V need to sound distinct and exciting. Exhausts need pop and crackle, they also need to create thrills. It seems even racing games lack in this though; for example Forza Horizon's cars sounded distinct in nice but they didn't sound exciting. I really think Rockstar with their obsession for detail would have thought about stuff like this before, maybe the math of trying to create something that dynamic with sound is just over their heads or way too complicated for this generation of hardware. However how you described that made me physically excited at the very chance that this being possible in V. I really hope Rockstar does something about the engine sounds in this one, but I think if they were overtly different we would have heard something in the previews by now. I asked someone of Gamekings and he told me that he liked the Engine Sounds and Weapon Sounds. The trailers sounded good aswell but we know that Trailers from R* never showed the actual sound. Best example is the AK in IV Did they explain how they liked the noises, In what detail did they describe them? when i asked him he said that he cant remember it all. but it sounded good. thats lefts space for speculation cause everyone has different definitions of good. I really doubt they will be as boring as in IV. The Car in the Trailer on the Airport ( when police gets blown away by plane engine) sounds awesome. Just hope it doesnt sound different like in GTA4 trailers
Buffalo Soldier
Do you folks think that GTA V might have looping engine sounds? GTA IV didn't have them, EFLC didn't have them, Red Dead Redemption didn't have them and neither will V. Doesn't matter what other games do in there game to be honest with you. ... thisnutritiondiet
I just took a second look at the trailers. The scene where Michael is driving his blue sentinel, and where the black 9f is speeding by. Then I look at the second trailer, where Franklin and Lamar speeds by with their convertibles. Lastly I look at Franklin's trailer where he is driving the Declasse suv. To me, I feel confident about the sounds. They sound clear and regular. so I guess every car will have their own unique sound.

Voit Turyv
Okay... but engine sounds didn't loop in GTA IV. Nor did they in earlier GTAs. Actually, I didn't mind them sounding like a blender or an automatic coffee grinder.

Raavi
Regarding my initial comment on INero's demeanor; Your comments tend to instigate flamewars, which is something this section obviously does not need. So please refrain from engaging in personal arguments in threads and take them to PM. Thanks in advance. Anyhow let's cut of the quote train of here folks and get back on topic. DODI3OG
OT: Developers have to cut less important details to make the entire experience complete. Audio loops are part of this. This. And do you guys even know that ALL car sounds in the GTA series are looped? But, because of Rockstar's excellence, they're not noticeable most of the time. Try opening GTA 4's audio archive with SparkIV or OpenIV then listen to the car sounds and you'll be surprised how short and reused most of them are. That's because recording real gun sounds is a pain in the ass and developers makes sounds from scratch. Some had made it very close to real life and MANY developers don't bother making it real-life like and come up with much better; custom ideas, instead. Syntax323
Hey, this is from trailer 1. Go to 23 seconds, hear Franklin revving it up. Not exactly driving idle noise, but can at least get an idea of what the car sounds like, and that's from the very first trailer, so I assume if it has changed, it only improved from that point, considering that's an old build. Oh, and at 50 seconds, you can hear blue convertible driving. Sounds pretty good. Go to 23 seconds for engine rev and 50 seconds for car driving Edited May 12, 2013 by Syntax323
Naean
Didn't the sports cars exclusive to The Ballad of Gay Tony improve (If only slightly.) on the vehicle sounds? I swear they were noticeably better than Grand Theft Auto IV's sports cars in terms of the sounds they used. Perhaps I'm remembering wrongly, though.... Quoting my previous post, because no-one replied to it, and I'm curious about this. I don't have the games to hand to check and compare myself. JB94
Looping sounds are one thing that will really ruin the driving experience. It will feel as tacky and thoughtless as those aforementioned games. R* haven't done the sounds stupidly before, I hope they don't start now.
visionist
IV's cars sounded like fat hairy arse. Horrible. Anyway imagine finally jumping into the game's Veyron and it sounds tinny & sh*t. The real thing for comparison:
Bertanius
There's no other way the could go. They can't have hour-long audio files for each car to make it sound different all the time. I mean, goodness, if they were to do that, they may as well add 50,000 sounds for each individual material, so it never sounds 'looped'. It takes up too much space, so loops have to be used, and if done right, sound fine. GTA IV sounded fine to me, a short 5 second loop didn't degrade my experience. The game is called Grand Theft Auto, a legal name for car theft, and a good chunk of the game is driving so why would you want to keep driving as uninteresting and bland as possible? Instead of improving the game let's keep the game as uninteresting and boring as possible just because it's GTA and not [game said proposed feature excels in].. nah brah

Although I was one of the guys who said that car customizatiin hasnt to be that in-depth. Sounds sre one of the things which increase the fun. I mean in there are millions of people out there who watch YT videos of cars just to hesr the awesome sound. And driving such a thing with such a monsterous sound is just awesome. Same goes for Weapon Sounds. I mean compare the generic sounds of CoD with the sound engine of bsttlefield. Especially BC2. Firing a .50 cal sniper lets you feel the power while in CoD its car from sounding as powerful. Although they are shooters, Shooting and driving are the main parts of GTA
