blakeney
Wouldn't Rockstar be copywriting then? Everyone has a different taste for music, so wouldn't they have to get rights from every single band/artist in the world? Either way -- I doubt this. Just download a CD to your Xbox so you can play it on the Xbox Music System I think it's called? I always do that and set the music low sometimes so you can hear the game. No, pc IV (III+ apprently) had a Station called "Independence FM" and played all music you drop into a certain folder... because it's you playing it, off your HDD, to only yourself, the copyrights are covered in the same way as if you were playing it though Media Player w/e. blakeney
GTAIV came out before the ingame XMB patch was released so custom music was never an option. With the release of the ingame XMB patch many games started to allow custom music. The latest one by Rockstar would be Red Dead Redemption. So expect GTAV to allow custom music. To the above post, many PS3 games allow ingame custom music. this^ I have a feeling we will be able to listen to music on foot too via our new smartphones (may have been already confirmed as one of the "apps"?) I think a lot of the time it is to do with making the deal between them and all the labels that own the tracks in game... think about it, the deal isn't anywhere near as exclusive or lucrative if there isn't a 100% guarantee xx-million people will be hearing their tracks a lot. Cutter De Blanc
If they put it it in I hope it's not implemented in a way where the music is WAY LOUDER than all of the rest of the sounds in the game. It's a distinct problem I have with the XMB's music player, even at the lowest volume setting.
Buffalo Soldier
This is why I played GTA IV on Xbox. GTA IV has one of the worst soundtracks ever. I cannot understand how they go from having magnificent soundtracks in III, VC, SA, VCS - to then having absolute rubbish on IV. All it was, was over the top Rock, Russian music to try and fit in with Niko, and other bollocks. I know the Noughties weren't as good as past decades when it came to music, but they could of put abit more effort into that. Rockstar messed up in '08. So yeah, but playing GTA IV on PS3 - when I can't listen to my own music, and end up listening to the sh*te on Radio Brooker or Vladivostok FM - is a letdown, either Rockstar make a damn good soundtrack to GTA V (and judging by Franklin and Michael's trailer they have) then that's fair enough, but if they're sticking to this Post Modern bullsh*t music, then give us the option to play our own. Well...... Thats pretty obvious.... 3, VC, and SA had music from the past and none of it was current day. The problem is current day music that sucks. GTAIV was in present day
carloff1212
I never understood why people shoot down this request and second guess it. I've never understood your argument. If you love your music enough to waste your life downloading it all into the game, surely you don't want it to stop when you get out of a car? Therefore, just whack a CD on while your playing. Sorted. The developers can work on ideas that aren't sh*t. Tell me why this isn't a better solution? Wow, what a small-minded and abrasive piece of sh*t you are. ChocoFrosty
Independence FM in IV is an extra radio station with its own dj, with commercials and news, but it plays your own music from your own playlist. The dj always talks about how your music sucks lol. Currently I have over 1000 songs playin on there. What's cool is you can change the way this station works. You can set it to be like a normal gta radio station with dj, commercials etc, or you can set it so that it plays your music without any interference. I don't know why I felt the need to post this btw... I'm glad you posted this because I feel like some people who are against this idea don't realize that it's not a choice between GTA's music and your personal music, it's just one radio station. You hear that, anti-custom-music people? It's just one custom radio station! The best of both worlds.
Kill Frenzy!
GTA soundtracks are usually better than my own music taste so I quite like the radio feature You're right, your own music doesn't fit in the game, R* knows exactly which songs would fit in the game like the Radio Gaga song. I wholeheartedly agree with you, this guy is being quite ridiculous. Some of us don't exactly want music playing while we're walking around, because, were exactly is this music coming from? Do Trevor, Michael and Franklin have radios in their heads? Also, what do you mean an idea that's sh*t? It's already in the PC version, its not like it'd be especially hard to implement in the console versions. I know for a fact that MLB The Show has had it on the PS3 since 2008 or so, so it can be done. But yeah, dude, he's basically the only one it would seem that thinks this is such a ridiculous and time wasting idea

Snake Without a Tongue
One big thing I miss from playing GTA on PC was the option to put your own music on the radio. But really, I think I'd prefer enjoying the music and radio R* worked so hard on mixing into the game.

G D
You can do just that in Red Dead Redemption. (PS3, not sure about 360) Just go to 'Music' in the PS button menu and (assuming you have songs downloaded) chose and it will play during gameplay. The only downside is that you can't use it in multiplayer which sucks. hope its in V....

ZombLee
So many smart-asses in this thread. Yeah, we know YOU might have had it on PC, so this obviously doesn't apply to you. Or YOU might have had it on 360 where you could've overlayed your own music on it (still isn't that great a solution since it is literally just being played over the game sounds). But your own music on your ps3 couldn't be played in-game for GTA IV on PS3 since it's up to the developers to implement that feature. On the positive side, when developers DO implement that feature, they can control the volume of it, when it's playing, etc.
InfernoV
Why would you want to? Prometheus
on PC since GTAIII Yeah, also if I recall correctly there was a custom radio station for GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas where you were able to play music from your [first generation] Xbox. iNero
Btw: If this feature is in, you have to put it on Xbox HDD. But u only can put it on HDD with a disc and rip it. I buy music digital or with converter. Is it actually possible to put music from an usb stick on the hdd or do u think the game could access the usb stick during the game? But actually my MP3 files dont work when i try to play them on my xbox with usb. Thats so weird

The music is all part of the atmosphere. This! Nuff sed I'm not disparaging Rockstar's soundtracks. I'm just saying that after an extended period of time, it would be nice to play other music off of our console hard drives. It wouldn't remove the already existing stations in the game. It would be in addition to them. A lot of people replay GTA a lot and get tired of listening to the same songs after so long. That's why we'd want to. Plus, not everyone's taste in music is the same. If you don't want to play custom music then you wouldn't have to. The other radio stations will still be there. Nuff said.

One of the most impressive things about a GTA game is how they manage to nail the soundtrack every time with music you know and love and some you've never heard of. The music is all part of the atmosphere. Dude I totally agree. GTA was "always" about th radio and you gotta thoroughly enjoy that. But after a couple of years when you listened to all talkshows and stuff, you wanna listen to your OWN sh*t in the car. And it's not a given that your own choice doesn't fit the atmosphere that is intended by R*' musical choice. I find that Nightcall by Kavinsky fits IV and Niko Bellic pretty good and it's awesome to drive over the bridges in IV with all the lights and skyscrapers in the back, especially at sunset, and to just listen to that song. Or many others of individual choice. GTA Radio & Independence FM = win/win situation edit: what the guy above me said. Nuff Said ;D
