Max
Why would you want to? One of the most impressive things about a GTA game is how they manage to nail the soundtrack every time with music you know and love and some you've never heard of. The music is all part of the atmosphere.

The music is all part of the atmosphere. Totally agree. Although, I do think they could've taken advantage of the hip hop stations in IV a little better. They left out so many staples of NYC artists. I think there was one Nas track, but no jay z, mobb deep, big l, notorious b.I.g., wu tang clan, you could go on forever with classics outta NYC. AsonJones
Why would you want to? One of the most impressive things about a GTA game is how they manage to nail the soundtrack every time with music you know and love and some you've never heard of. The music is all part of the atmosphere. GTA is one of those games that people replay a lot and after so many plays there becomes a point when you're tired of listening to the same songs over and over again. It becomes even more apparent when you don't listen to every station. They cover such a wide variety of genres that most people don't listen to every single station and have a select few stations they actually use. I never understood why people shoot down this request and second guess it. Rockstar always has a good soundtrack and I always start out playing the game purely listening to the music already in it, but then it gets to the point where I would rather turn the radio off completely. How could Rockstar putting in a station for custom music be a bad thing? For the people praising the soundtrack, you don't have to use it. It's not a forced feature by any means. This is a really sensible request that would only be a major positive if included in the game. Besides, I bet a bunch of people who say the game doesn't need it would still use it if it were in there.

RichyB
I never understood why people shoot down this request and second guess it. I've never understood your argument. If you love your music enough to waste your life downloading it all into the game, surely you don't want it to stop when you get out of a car? Therefore, just whack a CD on while your playing. Sorted. The developers can work on ideas that aren't sh*t. Tell me why this isn't a better solution? Edited May 11, 2013 by RichyB
Birch Tree
Wouldn't Rockstar be copywriting then? Everyone has a different taste for music, so wouldn't they have to get rights from every single band/artist in the world? Either way -- I doubt this. Just download a CD to your Xbox so you can play it on the Xbox Music System I think it's called? I always do that and set the music low sometimes so you can hear the game. Kiffster
Independence FM in IV is an extra radio station with its own dj, with commercials and news, but it plays your own music from your own playlist. The dj always talks about how your music sucks lol. Currently I have over 1000 songs playin on there. What's cool is you can change the way this station works. You can set it to be like a normal gta radio station with dj, commercials etc, or you can set it so that it plays your music without any interference. I don't know why I felt the need to post this btw...

No more drifting noises or funny lines for you! 2- Proximity thingy where the further you are from you car, the quieter your music is. 3- It does not stop when a story related cut scene. You will be missing some important story lines. 4- you can not update the music. Surely you want a song in GTA:VC/SA/IV that R* did not put in the game and after 9 months of the some music, you wanted that song in your GTA game, no? It is just a door to allow music files to get in. It could be done after the game is golden if that what ills ya.
Grove Street Balla
Do what Saints Row 2 did. Buy more music for radio, and then you will have unlimited music that Rockstar can add more songs as DLC.
wwinterj
They should allow you to play custom music offline. Online however is out of the question for obvious reasons.

If the CD player isn't on too loud then it wont drown out SFX, I know because I do it regularly in GTA IV. 2. Proximity doesn't matter, if you love the music so much you'll want it to be on when you're not in the car. 3. Your argument was that you want new music after playing the game for 9 months. In 9 months you've already completed the storyline therefore the CD player wont interrupt them. If you replay it you already know what the cut scenes are. 4. Initial argument. If you're bored with the music, whack a CD on. Sorted. I decree that the motion is passed the the feature will not be included.

Hodgey.
Didn't we had that since GTA SA? I do remember we had this Independence FM on GTA IV. Yes Independce FM was avaliable for PC users. However the OP was talking about Playstation users mainly (and probably Xbox users aswell), as that is a feature that console gamers have never had. I would hope it would be a feature for us console users but if it isnt then im not going to hate the game or lose respect for the game as GTA radio stations are always interesting even year after you first hear them. OmegaEvolution
GTAIV came out before the ingame XMB patch was released so custom music was never an option. With the release of the ingame XMB patch many games started to allow custom music. The latest one by Rockstar would be Red Dead Redemption. So expect GTAV to allow custom music. To the above post, many PS3 games allow ingame custom music.

UJ99
I don't see why R* wouldn't let us PS3 users to import music from our XMB. Hopefully they already thought and implemented it.
TheMisanthrope
This is what pisses me off about my PS3. I favor my PS3 over my Xbox. And it really f*cking stinks that on every game you can't play your own music. Only a few have done it. Dantes Inferno, Skate 3(even can listen to it online), Driver: San Francisco and Grand Turismo 5 you could. To those who say why would I want to listen to my own music? Because I more than likely have everything that GTA's soundtrack is going to have and much more. I have 30,000 songs on my PS3 taking up like 200 out of 500GB's. I'm a music fanatic and to not be able to cruise around listening to all of The Notorious B.I.G.'s best tracks makes me upset. I want to choose what fits my mood. If I want to listen to the good ol 70's and 80's rock I want to go with what I WANT. GTA always has a great soundtrack but sometimes you just your taste in music. Everyones different if I want to cruise around doing drive by's Biggie or NAS is a great vibe for that. Either way i'll be upset if they don't allow our own music from the hard drive. Sorted. The developers can work on ideas that aren't sh*t. Tell me why this isn't a better solution? It's not a better solution at all. I don't know why you're so uptight. You wouldn't have to use it. It doesn't get any simpler than that. It would be entirely optional. I don't want to pop in a CD. I have a large CD collection that I have already transferred to my PS3. If I want to listen to music from different albums, I can create a playlist and I don't have to stop my game to change CD's. Not only that, but my PS3 will already have GTA inside the console so how am I supposed to use a CD? I want to have all of the game audio (music included) come from the same source. I don't want to constantly adjust volume on a separate stereo that I don't have because I have one entertainment set-up and I often play with surround sound headphones so it's a necessity that everything plays from the same source. I bought GTA IV at the midnight release 4 years ago and I've still been playing it through the years. It would be nice to have some different music to listen to after a while. Also, your responses to goh13 are completely ridiculous. We don't want to drown out the entire game. We just want the ability to have one radio station that plays the music on our PS3's and 360's exactly as the radio stations in the game would. Even if it's a second, third, or fourth play through. It's still nice to actually hear the dialog and a lot of times people don't catch everything. How many people have watched TV shows or movies multiple times and noticed things they didn't the first time around? You don't need to be a jerk and if you're not in favor of this, then don't even post about it. We're not asking to remove the preexisting radio stations. We just want the addition of a custom one. We're not asking to remove, change, or compromise anything whatsoever.
