Ferocious Banger
I've been awaiting the arrival of a new Grand Theft Auto since at least three years after the release of GTA IV. My hype has always been there ever since October 25, 2011. I've been on these forums every..single..day! since. Now, we are just over four months away from the masterpiece that Rockstar are crafting. But..GTA V isn't going to be the only masterpiece that is coming out this Fall. There is another game. A game that might potentially be better. Watch_Dogs is nothing short of revolutionary. I'm very glad that there is someone else other than R* who care about the little details and the overall quality of their games. The game has been under development for 4.5 years after all. GTA fans and Watch Dogs fans,, let's have a debate: What makes GTAV greater than WD? (or) What makes WD greater than GTAV? Now please. Watch the video ( or ) read the previews of both games before you come to a conclusion. I don't want "R*>>UBI" talk. Please construct your arguments as objectively as possible. EDIT: Since we all know about the stunning V, I'm not posting the snippets of the previews of May 2nd. Let me summarize May 10's previews of WD: Interesting Snippets: •Can find items in the car's glove box's such as money, crafting items, and/or information on individuals. •Over 100 campaign missions •Can hack forklifts, gates, parking garages. •Dozens of bases spread throughout the districts of Chicago. (Think outposts in FC3) •Different classes of vehicles. •The app store also lets you play several minigames, Download music from shops and stores in creating playlists and listened to whenever you like. •There will be ctOS zones all over the world that the player will take out guards to gain access to that areas cameras, full hacking abilities. •Pawn shops where you can sell and buy items such as guns, explosives, ammo. You can sell things like watches, etc that you get off of civilians. You can loot guards/civilians. The phone Aiden has will have apps, where you can play mini games. You can scan songs and put them into a custom soundtrack.• Preview information from the Eurogamer article Vaas posted, they were viewing the PS4 version: About the game engine and its abilities: "It's kind of unperceivable, but when you turn it off, you miss it," Jonathan Morin, the game's creative director says, gesturing at the snaking sets of coloured isobars that he's just toggled on-screen. We're seeing Watch Dogs' new Disrupt engine track the flow of air through the virtual city. Coloured streams of wind hurtle down narrow streets boarded by high terraces of apartments. At a traffic intersection the currents flow into one another, dynamically pooling to ripple certain awnings and sway the branches of a few street-side trees. The game's water system is similarly advanced: we're shown waves influenced by other objects in the water, by the time of day, wind strength and other weather. About the variations between console generations: "The variety of the characters, the amount, their composition, the cars. It's obvious there's going to be graphical differences," lead game designer Danny Belanger explains when I ask him what other features will be influenced by the generation of hardware you play on. Some info about other players' interactions with your single-player experience and an estimate of the game length: But as well as smart interactions with AI, Watch Dogs will also include opportunities for you to interact with other human players in your single-player game. "Say you're playing alone, free-roaming," Morin explained. "There's a bunch of activities you can activate. Sometimes - and you won't know when - the objective that you have is related to what someone else is doing at the same time. When that happens we merge your reality with the other person's, and you'll be able to see them." Morin gave the example of a mission where you had to spy on another hacker - but that person was a real player carrying out an objective within their own game who had unknowingly become part of your city. Sometimes you will be told if another player will be watching you during these objectives. Sometimes you won't. "In playtests right now, in the scenarios where we don't tell players [they're interacting with another human-controlled character], most say 'oh this is really cool, it feels like there really are other hackers out there. Then we tell them it really was other players. And they're like 'what?!' We can have fun with your perceptions." The feature is one of the more recent additions to the game and separate from the game's full-blown multiplayer mode (expect to hear more about that in the coming months). If it sounds like there's a lot to play around with, it's because there is. "We don't have the full playtest data through yet because it hasn't been played through all in one sitting," Belanger added, "but I'd expect it would be more than 80 hours to complete everything in the game." Gameinformer preview From a visual perspective, the engine is stunning and fluid (for this demo, the specifications of the PC were approximate to the PlayStation 4). The detailing on vehicles, houses, and pedestrians is impressive. For instance, one of the cars showed realistic wear and peeling paint. It had fallen into disrepair, and the body imperfections conveyed a sense of age rather than intent of an artist. Possible future features: "There's a list which we're reserving for the future at this point. We'll see what happens and then see what we can do," Belanger concluded. "We couldn't do everything we wanted, even in four years." Preview from dealspwn.com As an example, if you like a song playing on a restaurant's speakers, you can use an app to find out what it is before downloading it to a custom playlist. Subsequently, you'll be able to hack into other speakers to make everyone else listen to your own soundtrack. http://www.dealspwn.com/watchdogs-preview-139587 Edited May 11, 2013 by Ferocious Banger
satanicaleviathan
I think you're going to get hated on for this. not by me, is watch dogs coming out this gen? because if not, that is why gta 5 is better. because rockstar is smart enough to make a grip of cash off of a current gen game, and then port it a year later to next gen and pc, with better clothing physics and realistic steaks, 8 new missions, a new mp mode, and a free t shirt* *t shirt available only with a gamestop pre order

guden
Every single Ubisoft game suffers from the same issue - it lacks variety. You just keep doing same things over and over again and that is their weakest point. I think WD is going to be a great and beautiful game with its own features and hopefully won't become another Assassin's Creed. But personally I don't like how shooting and driving mechanics are working.
I<3GTAV
Right as Saints Row falls, another contender rises. Watch Dogs looks really great, I might actually buy it. After GTA V, of course, because GTA will always be number 1 IMO.
Lukijs
Im still pessimistic about Watch Dogs. It looks great. But all this stealth and stuff really reminded of Hitman Absolution and driving looks plain afwul ,sorry., Just this time you don't have to do everything manually. These encounters and folowing possible rapists or whatever too ,might be something like Ubi's Dynamic missions. If you want go and see what awaits you. Personally I'm getting GTA V and still can't decide between Watch Dogs and MGS: The Phantom Pain(will go with Phantom Pain probably) but it's up to others to decide whether they will play both or stick to one they prefer. satanicaleviathan
man I just watched some of that preview, and I do love AC, to a point.. but really I can already see the flaws I personally would have with a game like that. for one, I like guns, way, way, WAY more than camera hacking cell phones. i'll get it off gamefly, like most other games. but at this point in my life, I don't need a review, gameplay, or even really previews to buy a GTA game outright. I still roll around with johny and take people out with the sawn off, or saiga shotgun people with luis, and sometimes go on dates with niko. I don't get that from anything ubisoft has put out, and lets face it, I know i'm not the only one who still tricks out cars in forza, or tries to hit some ridiculous line in the skate series... but after altiar's story was done, I didn't play AC until 2 came out. so its an automatic rental, and like the splinter cell series, I most likely wont rent it again. According to a few previews, Watch Dogs, at its heart, is a Third Person Shooter.
satanicaleviathan
Im buying both of them... This year is going to be AMAZING for gaming. man after gta5, i'm going to drop off of gaming until q4 2015 when the next gen hardware starts hitting its peak. mostly because my son is ten months old now, and when my lady and I decided to keep the kid, I warned her gta 5 was coming out this year, and i'd be dead to the world for a good few days.... I don't think im going to get that chance again any time in the next few years.
dxbrandon
Meh, i was excited for this game awhile back, but after snapping back in to reality ( Graphics and Hacking system had me wowing for awhile)and realizing, What does watch dogs "really" have to offer beside those freaking awesome graphics and new and refreshing hacking system that's imbracing the open world scene? Nothing. It'll get tidious after awhile, 'Plain N Simple'.
Myopinionisking
Watch Dogs may be better than GTA 5 in some areas but it's really an unfair comparison because Watch Dogs is being developed primarily for next gen and then scaled back to run on current gen. I think we all know GTA 5 well be the better game overall but WD will probably just have better sound and visuals due to being essentially next gen. It really is a shame that 5 isn't being developed for next gen to really take advantage of the extra power.
TheQuestfor100Percent
Aside from being open world 3rd person games, they don't seem all that similar to me. WD does seem interesting, but I still think the scale of V will be much greater.

Well, it's pretty evident that there is an insane attention to detail in Watch_Dogs.. I'm speaking pretty broadly here. It is not just the environmental detail. Even the pedestrians and the sounds of the game are taken right off Chicago. Every person inside the game has a backstory. zainzombie
I will be getting WD when I get a next gen console and Im not getting a next gen console at launch, so I dont know when will I be playing this one. I am not going with current gen version because Im pretty sure it will suck balls not just compared to the PS4/PC version but compared to rest of the current gen games. Like the transition of ps2 to ps3/x360 era, ps2 was getting all the half-assed versions. Other than that, since last E3 I have really liked the new concept and Im sure I will enjoy the hacking and controlling aspect of the game which is very unique, fresh and exciting but not as exciting as GTA V for me. In my mind both these games are totally different and people should buy them both for different reasons. You wont be able to have the kind of fun that GTA V will provide in Watch Dogs and vice versa. I saw the preview of WD yesterday, again I am impressed but not as excited for it as I was last year and the reason is GTA V. Hell, Im not even excited for The Last of us (a game I have been waiting for since I saw the first trailer). But yea I agree with the title. Yes indeed, exciting times ahead. I cant wait to play all these amazing games but the one I am dying to play is definitely GTA V.
