michaelpece
In the first trailer, the guys are seen going into the Jewelry shop dressed in the Bugstars pest control uniform: And in the games files for GTA: San Andreas, in a file called gridref.dat, is the following note from a Rockstar employee to other Rockstar employees: ################################################## # gridref.dat # # stores which artist deals with map grid areas. # # These names must be the artist's user id # ################################################## # these names MUST!!!! be the artist's bugstar userid any questions see Alex !!!!!!!!!! This must be the name of the software Rockstar uses internally to track bugs (problems with the game). It's hardly anything significant, just wanted to mention it. I also found out that Alex is/was the Art director at Rockstar. Edited May 11, 2013 by michaelpece

michaelpece
Cool find ! Thanks for taking the trouble to find this . I happened to stumble upon the file just now while looking for something in the game files, and thought 'hey, bugstars.. hmm..'.
Romans Cousin Niko
Superb find. Especially since it was meant to be an internal Rockstar joke.

jamieleng
Now that's an obscure inside joke if I've ever seen one. You think that's obscure? Check out my theory on the Dr. Jeremiah James statue in GTA IV: Man up a ladder statue. Nice find OP. People would be surprised how almost everything in GTA is a reference, even if most players never make the connection.

johnny_zoo
Sorry for being slow but what has SA files got to do with GTAV? Im clearly missing something.
Miss Darko
Sorry for being slow but what has SA files got to do with GTAV? Im clearly missing something. Well the OP's point is that Bugstars is R*'s in-house bug tracking program, as evidenced by the note in SA's files. Then there's a pest extermination company in GTA V called Bugstars referring to this as an inside joke.
totalbender
clever isnt it.

Spider-Vice
I had thought about this before, after I did a documentation of commentaries on GTA SA files on another forum, smart smart R*. Are you sure? I don't think this has been confirmed. /sarcasm Good find OP, I remember someone pointed out this text in the file but never made the relation to the first trailer. nigelhere9901
I don't get the joke, anyway, the file is in the Data Folder.
Spider-Vice
I don't get the joke, anyway, the file is in the Data Folder. It's not a joke, the GTA SA file contains comments for the R* developers to send any bug reports to R*'s internal bug reporting system, called "bugstar", and the van in GTAV has "bugstars" on it. It's an inside joke we weren't even supposed to know about.
