Agni
READ THE BELOW SENTENCE BEFORE YOU ACTUALLY REPLY I DIDN'T INTEND TO IMPLY THAT THE US WAS THE CENTER OF THE UNIVERSE WITH THE TITLE. IT WAS A MISTAKE. LET IT GO. I was on another forum and came across a rather...interesting article. http://kotaku.com/5982367/here-are-the-top...ward-to-in-2013 Yeah, yeah, Kotaku, but scroll to number 9 on that list: it's GTA V. I'm actually quite surprised at this--as a fan of Japanese games myself this is not the kind of thing I expected. But it's interesting. Just thought this would be a nice little bit of trivia. Didn't see a previous thread about it.[/size] Edited May 11, 2013 by Agni

Druffmaul
Sure, because the USA is the only country where people is hyped by GTA V... It's pretty damn unusual for Japan to get hyped about any Western game.
Agni
Sure, because the USA is the only country where people is hyped by GTA V... That's not really my point--more that this is not the kind of game you would expect Japanese gamers to be anticipating.

Agni
Then wtf do they like? GTA covers a lot. The Japanese tend to not be into wide-open sandbox games or western games in general. I remember a story I read once: An Activision exec went to Japan with a translator for business and went to a game store. He saw a BIG bin filled with COD games and other western games, with a HUGE red and vibrant poster. Excited, he asked the translator what the poster read. The translator said: "It means 'Western Dogsh*t', sir". Point is, the Japanese do not like non-Japanese games.
MosquitoSmasher
As much as i love the country and really want to go there sometime, their taste of videogames is a bit odd in my opinion. They simply can't seem to get sick of Monster Hunter and i find it nothing special, but ok...that's not too bad. But they have ugly ass horrible looking games and they simply love them. They also don't seem to mind getting games that after ten years have barely changed/evolved. Of course i dont mean every Japanese person is like that, hell no. Agni
I talked with another guy on a forum, and he told me that GTA actually sells quite well in Japan. VC, SA, and IV all sold roughly 400K to 500K copies there--these are VERY good numbers in the JP market.

wwinterj
As much as i love the country and really want to go there sometime, their taste of videogames is a bit odd in my opinion. Looking at there chart we have Dragon's Dogma(still need to buy this), Tomb Raider(Still need to buy this), Steins;Gate: Senkei Kousoku no Phonogram, PhotoKano Kiss(What the?), Naruto Shippuden: Narutimate Storm 3, BioShock Infinite and Attouteki Yuugi: Mugen Souls Z. I don't know most of these but they have a few I do. I see most the games they like are RPG and/or anime.

RichyB
What an utter moron OP is. To the left of these words is a flag, to the left of many other posts there are flags. These flags indicate the nationality of the poster. Take note; many, if not most aren't American. GTA is a British game enjoyed throughout the world, there is no reason why other nationalities wont be looking forward to V.

That... wasn't my point. Have you ever noticed how EVERYTHING EVER in the US these days is dark and gritty? I am so tired of it already. Yes, GTA IV was a good game, but even star wars tried to get 1313 out which is also going to be dark and gritty. Though I guess that complaint can be applied to any element that was just added in for more sales rather than because it would make the game or movie better.
