NikosPeacoat
That's a long motherf*ckin free-fall for a demo. This has me thinking, perhaps R* will make it possible to jump from a pod in space as Trevor in a Felix Baumgartner-esque Red Bull mission. And, if you choose not to open your parachute, you will be traveling at such an extreme velocity (terminal velocity) towards earth that you WONT just completely shatter/explode upon impact, but rather will travel through the ground into another dimension. This could be a hidden achievement called: "Worm hole."

iNero
i dont know which mag said that but 3 minutes is ridicilous. why would R* in a Demo with a time time limit show a 3 min free-fall? all the mags said he needed 30-45 seconds to land on the ground where they saw los santos and that the map is an island. IronZombie
That was misinformation. What they meant to say was 3 minutes falling with the chute open. Pretty sure I read other previews that said Franklin opened his chute almost as soon as he jumped. 3 minutes falling with a parachute is much more realistic than 3 minutes in free fall. Adriaan
i heard one say that they opend the chute then it took 3 minutes Right exactly. When he jumps, he opens the chute. From EDGE: Franklin jumps, tugs on his parachute cord and begins a descent that will take a full three minutes.

cityspud
It was plausible until I started to read your post... just kidding, pal. lol I think it was with the chute open like others have said..... that's still pretty decent though. Nah, more like a minute or less. NikosPeacoat
Either way, 3 minutes of free fall with or without parachute, R* should add the "Worm Hole" achievement. Talk about "bold new direction", imagine playing as Trevor in another dimension.

Len Lfc
Yeah, chute open, then a 3 minute glide. Off topic, but I've read from cvg that they were 13,000 feet high, but then i think in Edge maybe? They said it was only 1,000 feet high. Which is it? I'm not familiar with skydiving heights at all, but 13,000 sounds maybe too much hight to be in a GTA. Not that I'm against that, I'd love 50,000 feet honestly, but being realistic I don't see Rockstar giving us a 13,000 ceiling. What do you all think? Bantri
The San Gabriel Mountains north of LA (which is also between LA and the desert), are about 9,000 Feet. (It also snows there, and we haven't seen any winter screen shots yet Just thought I should throw that in). 1,000 is way too close to the ground to parachute like that. 13 sounds reasonable, considering if the city is to scale with the mountains in game. That would be a little higher than the tops of the mountains.

Exactly what I was thinking, but I just couldn't get myself to believe that V's skybox would be 13 times larger than IV's. I know TBoGT increased the ceiling because of the parachutes, but not by much. Hopefully 13,000 feet is accurate. I remember reading in a preview that V will have the largest skybox to date also, giving us plenty of room to fly around in. That may have been a caption next to a recent screenshot of the Cuban 800 next to the coastal road. Lelouch The Zero
It would be awesome if the Free-Falling was like Just Cause 2. You would fall for a really long time, sort of like real life. I also liked how the snow got on the characters clothes, and when he got wet his clothes would stay wet for a long time. Hopefully they have similar features like this in V. Frantz Fuchs
It's not long at all. The altitude of a civilian plane is about 30,000-40,000 feet. Human terminal velocity is 54m/s. Since a person in free fall accelerates at 9.8 m/s^2, you would reach terminal velocity after falling for 5.51 seconds (54/9.8). This requires only 149 metres (d=1/2 at^2, so 1/2*9.8*5.51^2), so falling the rest of the way at 54m/s, you would hit the ground after 2 minutes and 49 seconds if at 30,000 ft, or 3 minutes and 43 seconds if at 40,000 ft. Keep in mind military planes can go much higher than this.
