NOTE: I did not request this poll. A mod did it on his own. IMO this poll is pointless because this feature would most likely come with an option to turn it off. That kills all the reasons why someone would vote no. Also, the votes are based purely on "assumptions" of how fuel would be. Nobody knows how it will be implemented so nobody can be sure it will be annoying, not add to gameplay, etc. Therefore wether ppl want it or not is irrelevant but whatever helps the crybabies sleep at night I guess.

Anyway, its really funny to see te hate ppl have for this feature and all the stupid selfish reasons they give for it not to be in. Waaa it will be annoying! Waaa it adds nothing to the gameplay for me! and the dumbest grip of all...Waaa I might get stuck in the desert! lol I dont understand it. Every time fuel in cars is mentioned ppl bash it to death and make it seem soooo stupid. I dont think its a must have feature but I also dont see how its stupid and definitely wouldn't whine if it were in. There are alot of stupid and uneccessary things in the game IMO but there are always ways around them so I'm not going to campaign for them to be excluded just bcuz "I" dont want to do it. I've played Mafia and honestly dont ever recall refueling hindering my gameplay. I did it once on purpose to see how it looks but dont ever remember gas as a bothersome chore so I'm not sure where ppl rre basing the opinion of "it will be annoying" on. It may be because I dont stay in the same car for too long and they do. Regardless, I'm just not seeing how its a bad thing. Let roleplayers have their feature. The game is not for a selected few. Its for everyone and if you play like me and swap cars often then you probably will never be in a car long enough to run out of gas. Seems to me like more of a fanboy complaint (ppl who hate GTA rivals and dont want to see any of their features in GTA). Anyway, lets get to some of these complaints.

"It would be annoying" I dont see how a short few second getting gas animation maybe twice a week would be annoying. I mean would it be more annoying than the already present chores of getting health and ammo which happens ALOT more than twice a week? Regardless, an option to turn it off as well as a cheat kills this gripe.

"I dont want to stop every 5 minutes to get gas." I agree having to stop every 5 minutes would be too much but what about maybe once or twice a week? Would that be too much? Regardless, again an option to turn it off as well as a cheat kills this gripe.

"I dont want to sit there and watch my character fill up the car." Well you sit there and watch your character fill up his health at food places and vendors. I mean wouldnt the "fill up gas" animaton be just as long as the "buy food" animation? Regardless, again an option to turn it off as well as a cheat kills this gripe.

It wouldnt be fun to do Neither is buying food or ammo. Why cant health be like MP3 where you carry it on you and heal on the spot? Why add the chore of having to travel around the city to get health and ammo? What do stop lights add to gameplay? We never use them and what about tolls on the bridges? What about changing clothes, etc? They're not there to be fun. They're there to add to the overall experience. I actually think some fun can come from fuel in cars though. Gas = gas tanks so what about being able to shoot the tanks and make the gas leak then shoot the puddle to start a fire and eventually blow up the car? Its already comfirmed we can use gas to start fires. This is right long those lines. What about shooting the tanks in car chases and make the gas leak which eventually stop the cars? Same as shooting the tires IMO or shooting the cars until they catch on fire forcing the person to bail. Could you imagine Franklin driving and you in the passenger seat using Michael's slow mo feature to shoot the tanks? monocle.gif Regardless, again an option to turn it off as well as a cheat kills this gripe.

"It adds nothing to gameplay." Sure it does. Besides what I described above it adds a challenge to gameplay. Not every car would have gas so stealing cars especially in car chases wont be so easy like past games. It also brings the gas stations alive since they will actually work which provides a better scene to do things or see funny things happen. It also falls under stradegy and preparation. I mean we have preparation in heists now where we have to do a bunch of small things before the actual mission like for instance go buy a mask. Making sure to have a full tank before doing missions would go along with that. Its just like making sure to have full ammo or health.

"Its roleplaying" lol How? I wont be pretending to be Franklin when I put gas in his car. I'll just be stocking up on gas for the trip so he doesnt get stranded just like I stock up on ammo and health before missions. Are you roleplaying when you eat to heal, refill ammo, sleep to save, changing clothes etc? Its not roleplaying unless you are actually pretending to play a role so stfu wit this crap.

"It would suck to steal a car with low gas or none at all." Well it also sucks to be in a chase and have no cars around to jump in. IMO the threat of cars with no fuel is a nice risk added to stealing cars. It make things challenging especilly when in a chase. It makes things dynamic resulting in multiple scenerios. Stealing cars shouldnt always be easy and the same. Sometimes there should be obstacles to make it a little harder.

"It would suck to run out of gas mid chase." Well it also sucks when the cars break down completely or ctch on fire mid chase too. Sure you can try to keep your car from breaking down but that doesnt erase the point that its still annoying when they do break down during chases. Should R* take out car damage then? I dont see how having to ditch a car because it ran out of gas is any different than having to ditch a car that breaks down or is too damaged to drive comfortably.

"What if its a personal and I'm in a desert and dont want to leave it?" Again, this is the dumbest gripe of them all. lol If you forget to fill up with gas and drive out to the desert you deserve to get stranded especially if you know you're about to drive somewhere far. Whats so hard about spending a few seconds to fill up before going out in the middle of nowhere where there will be no gas stations? BUT for those cases its comfirmed we can use gas cans to make gas trails and light them. Well what if we will be able to get the cans from the trunk of the cars? That means if you run out of gas you can just get the gas can from the trunk and fill up. Stranded in the desert gripe solved. lol.gif

"You control ammo, car damage and health use you dont control fuel use". Well you may have a point with health but not ammo and car damage. Ammo use is no different than fuel consumption tho. For one, they are both a result of how much you use the object. If you dont use them then you dont lose anything period. Shoot efficiently and you use less ammo. Take shortcuts and you use less gas. Use a knife or other mele weapon and dont use ammo. Take a taxi and never burn fuel. Its the same. Two, you HAVE to use ammo. Just about every mission requires it so you WILL use ammo. With cars I'm not forced to drive. I can easily take a taxi and never burn gas whereas with ammo you pretty much HAVE to use it. You cant just use a knife all the time. Regardless, I'm pretty sure you'll use more ammo than fuel no matter how you try to conserve your ammo use so it makes no sense to complain about something you'll have to do maybe twice a week being annoying when you're already constantly doing something just as annoying and more often.

You also arent in complete control over car damage especially in car chases and they're shooting. Ppl acting like they're perfect drivers need to kill that noise. I mean I have never been able to dodge bullets when driving and had lot of cars blow up from that. I also wreck sometimes and have to get another car and if I dont I at least damage the cars to SOME degree especially when NPC's constantly pull out in front of you. I mean I could probably drive the speed limit, stop at redlights, etc and not damage the cars but f*ck that. I'm gonna have fun. If the cars get damaged or break down I'll just get another or get them fixed. I'm not gonna bash car damage tho. Ppl say "drive good and you wont damage the cars". OK well get gas and you wont run out.

Seriously tho, I dont think I'll ever be in the same car long enough for it to run out of gas and if I am then I'll just do what I do when they break down. GET ANOTHER CAR! lol I could also call a friend or take a taxi. If its a personal then I'll make sure to keep it full just like I made sure to keep them clean and fixed. I dont understand the hate for gas and why the roleplayers shouldnt be able to have it tho. I hate annoying time consuming features like alot of ppl but I dont see this as one so could one of you fuel haters help me out here? Why the hate for gas?

EDIT: I forgot all about cheats. If you use cheats then you'll just use a gas cheat therefore your complaints are pointless so please gtfo with your selfish whining!

Paper Mario

I wouldn't mind it. I mean, the fuel tank wouldn't go emtpy that fast plus I think I would wreck my car before it got out of fuel. I'd just steal another car.

And remember guys, bicycles are fuel free!

I agree with you 100%. Only problem is planes, helicopters, boats etc. it seems a bit complicated to fuel those.

Well, if I find a nice vehicle, then I'll probably want to save it at one of my homes. One can avoid trashing said vehicle by driving carfully, but driving carefully won't prevent fuel consumption (especially if the vehicle you found or stole doesn't have much fuel left). It's one of those unnecessary variables that won't add much to the game for the majority of players.

First off, car damage is entirely dependent on driving skill. You have complete control over it. Fuel goes down whether you want it to or not.

Challenge is not always good. Especially when it's forced on people who don't necessarily want it. I mean, it would make great sense as an option so it wouldn't bother people who don't want it, but mandatory for everyone just seems like it's forcing people to role play for no reason.

Ammo and health. Again, two things that are dependent on skill and not time. If you aim every shot for a head shot and also have good reactions and timing, you will use less ammo. If you are good at using cover and gauging how far your guy can fall before he gets hurt, you won't lose as much health.

Fuel goes down at the same rate no matter how good you are at driving, and so you'd still have to get fuel whether you want to or not. Ammo and health are entirely in the player's control. Fuel is not.

As for getting another car, what if I like the car I'm in? What then? Do I just get to eat sh*t? I mean, I want to spend my time drifting and racing through the mountains, not waiting for gas pumps or tow trucks to take me back to the gas pumps.

I think if they had it as a feature to turn off or on in the menu then it wouldn't be so bad. I would like to see how having to put gas affects gameplay, and it would probably be a cool thing for the RP community as well. I think what turns people off about it is that putting gas in real life isn't something that anyone likes to do, and is more of a chore than a fun thing. Also I don't know much about coding, but it could be hard to code the different gas mileages that different cars have...more trouble than it's worth probably.

Actually there's another point. How much of a point does gas really have if it either takes so long it might as well not be there or runs out so fast it annoys everyone?

I mean, that's the two outcomes it would have as a mandatory feature. Pointless or annoying.

short sweet and to the point, exactly what im saying you can drive carefully that won't change the fuel aspect and running out of gas in a vehicle you just stole. it is just one of those things that will constantly be there and thats where i see you guys not taking into perspective it will be there 24/7 gas will always have to be something you worry about and the random car robbings could theoretically land you in a car with no gas or low gas and then you can't outrun the cops because your tanks dead.

I agree with the OP 100%.

Good feature, not compulsory! For example, there simply is no fuel meter. Just if you pull into a petrol station and you want, you can park next to a pump and hold Y / , Then the character starts adding fuel and you choose if you want to pay or not. If not, you get a low level wanted.

This. It would be impossible to add that feature because it wouldn't make sense in my opinion of course, I mean they can put gas station for cars but what about the aircraft, watercraft, etc? sly.gif I think this feature wouldn't make the game much more realistic, I think that they can keep this apart for later in the next-gen's GTA title.

Honest Bill

It's just an extra little layer of unnecessary tedium that doesn't really add anything to the game. If you can play the whole game and never actually have to bother filling it up once, then well that wouldn't be so bad obviously, however it would beg the question, why the hell have it included in the first place if it just does nothing? To make it worth including at all, they would have to make it something which actually has an impact on the player. And as soon as you do that it becomes a minor irritation. Yes it might only be minor, but who wants to be slightly irritated while they're playing, for a feature which does absolutely nothing to enhance the game whatsoever?

I get it that some people like to ply the game and pretend like it's real life or whatever, i get that. There's no reason though, that they couldn't be accommodated by adding in a little re-fuelling animation. That way they can get gas, those of us who don't want to won't have to, and they haven't wasted their time implementing a feature that might just as well not exist.

The problem is on paper it sounds reasonable, but in practice it isn't fun. Take the Mafia series for example. It's annoying having to constantly watch your speed and fuel gauge, and that is in cars that can barely break 40mph.

I wouldn't be against if they allowed you to do things for RP sake, similar to how you could wash your car in 4. I think it would be nice if you parked your car up against a gas station, press a button, and whoever you are controlling fills up the tank.

But your fuel would never run out.

I'm all for trivial realistic additions, but when I realise my fuel gauge is at E as I glance upon the beuatiful dashboard of my favourite vehicle, which I'm taking out for a ride in the middle of nowhere to enjoy the view, it gets less fun.

Does my car stop driving when I'm not 'yogaing'?

I don't like it, when you're chased and your car get's wrecked it's your fault, when you run out of gas it's (probably) not your fault.

And the fuel is just some meaningless meter on the bottom of the screen.

At the time of gta sa I would have liked it. But now... having to refuel all the time, the same stuff over again. Meh, I don't like it.

And if gaining health, ammo, etc isn't fun, then why the hell add another annoying thing?

Well it also sucks when the cars break down completely mid chase too. Should R* take out car damage then? I mean if having to fill up would be annoying then how is having to pay n spray to fix your damaged car not annoying?

Car damage is something you have control over. Sorry, but if in V you have to refuel I wont buy the game.

The only thing I would like about cars having fuel is that it'll mean R* will have to put gas caps on the cars again. One thing that bothered me about IV was despite how detailed the cars looked, they all lacked a visible gas cap, with the exception of the Bullet GT and the Infernus.

I for one would love fuel to be in the game but ONLY if its optional, like the hardcore mode in fallout new Vegas, where "refueling" with food and water is an optional feature that can be turned on and off

Zero's mission Supply Lines. Imagine if there was a mission or you found yourself in a situation similar to that. I remember the first time I played that mission I had no choice but to cheat. And like one user said, it'll be one of two outcomes, it either lasts so long its not relevant or the tanks would be really small

I don't like filling up my car in real life. Why would I want to in a video game I'm playing to relax or have fun? People b!tch about how annoying the phone calls were in IV, but will turn around and demand something as monotonous as fuel.

I believe such a feature should be optional. The game should allow you to turn it on or off based on how you want to play.

That way everyone is happy.

@bigbleezy

I f*cking hated that goddamn mission, I had a quarter of fuel left and I just couldn't catch up to that last van. Eventually I got it but it was so goddamn annoying. Mainly because, I disliked the RC missions to begin with. So glad they didn't have them in IV.

My hate for it would be much less if:

a. I can siphon off gas (to drive for free and make firebombs)

b. I can put said firebombs back into the car's gas tank and have firebombcar-fun
