nismo13
I was going through all the trailers for GTA V and i realized that in the new character trailers, there is no clothing movement/bending/flexing. I looked at many angles of the characters movement and seen the clothes are static. In trailer 2 you can clearly see Trevors shirt move when he is exiting the house. The subtle movement of his body made the clothes shift. In the new trailers there are fast moving people and actions yet none of the clothes move. I really enjoyed this feature in max payne 3, because it made the game look a lot more realistic. I really hope Rockstar did not remove this feature. EDIT: I MEANT BUMP MAPPING OF CLOTHES, NOT ACTUAL CLOTHING PHYSICS. MY BAD Edited May 10, 2013 by nismo13
HudS
I hope they don't remove it But overall the clothes looks 5x times better then GTA 4 so im fine with it.

But I can live with it. Those small details make the game that much better though. I'm guessing that since we are able to buy all kinds of different clothes they probably ended up taking a lot of memory so they had to dull down the texture a little bit... but I in no way know anything about game designs and all that sh*t so I really couldn't say. OmegaEvolution
Why care about something as trivial as clothing physics? Because when im standing on the beach as Trevor, wearing nothing but a sarong, i want to see it flapping in the wind.
Dope_0110
Do you know how intensive that is to process. I never thought it would be there in the first place, at best in cutscenes, but never in gameplay on this generation. It's easy to put that in some linear games, but this is sandbox, they have to make compromises and that's the first unnecessary thing to go. Because when im standing on the beach as Trevor, wearing nothing but a sarong, i want to see it flapping in the wind. ...might i ask you WHY? why its so important? to make it look believable? realistic?...anything else? whats so special about seeing cloths flapping in the wind? and how many games released before had that?...i just don't understand some people... . There are beigger and more serious things to worry about, other than that...
boxmonster
Isn't the OP talking about the alternating bump map texture on the clothes? Because I have not seen any actual cloth physics... On character's clothes - not stuff like flags.

Its not hard actually its just two or three layers of mesh(clothing skin), and they fade in and out of eachother when the character is moving. rampage08
Yeah i remember when GI first saw the preview they said that michaels flip-flops were flapping when he rode the bicycle, but i trailer 3 didnt show stuff like that, well life goes on.. wwinterj
They might add it at a later date or not at all. It's nice to have little details and I'm sure this game will be full of them but I understand if this doesn't make the cut.

Why would they bother creating few different meshes and then again replace them it's too much work really. They can use alternating bump map texture that someone mentioned before where the model stays unmovable but the bump map texture alternates between a few states. It's already used in many games. PES or Fifa come to mind where it's easily noticeable. Real physics actually mover the clothes, doesn't just fade in and out different meshes. I don't think anyone's ever done that with clothes. jamieleng
What clothes did John Marston wear that had cloth physics (or if not physics, clothing that moved). Was it just that long duster?
G D
R* seems to have a habit of removing anything clothes related. First they remove Fingerless gloves for IV, and now this? what's next, Trevor's underwear? (He was seen in only his underwear in a scene in his trailer)

Well its hard to say if they took it out, the recent trailers barely show running or doing poses that would really bend clothes in good lighting. TheQuestfor100Percent
As long as clothing moves a little when you ride a motorcycle or skydiving I will be happy. It was in SA and IV so that at least should be in.

MosquitoSmasher
I'm pretty sure we'll at least see moving/waving wrinkles in shirts, like we've seen in Max Payne 3. If the clothes themselves really move in the wind, we'll have to see. But if they have been removed to make for example..the framerate more acceptable....my answer is f*ck YEAH! StepY0gameUP
Stop wanting all the same physics as max Payne the game isn't nearly as big as gta. It's not open world there's no activities. It's a shooting based game where the single player took up one disc alone. So just imaging if u through everything else gta has to offer with its open world were talking about like six disc. I rather see trunks being able to open so u can throw a body in than clothes moving. There's certain things that matter for max Payne that don't matter for gta. Honestly I'm not going to be standing on top of the mountains to watch my clothes move. Instead I rather see the draw distance. The glare from the sun. I Sorry if I was being a dick but I'm tired of hearing complaints about this game when it hasn't been released and comparison to a game that yes is made by rockstar but is a complete different game. I can understand rdr because it's open world but the things ppl asking for from max Payne it's not as big as gta. So if u don't see it it's b c it's not important enough for rockstar to add. If the choice is between moving clothing, which sure is a nice detail, or being able to put mofos in the trunk.THE LATTER 100%!!!
StepY0gameUP
I remember in mafia 2 clothing physic were greatly in the pc version not so much on console. It takes up disk space maybe not a lot but it's something they don't have to go in depth with maybe you'll see it in cut scenes but if it's not in game play I can care less. Anyway again I'm sorry to knock your opinion but this is just mine.
