Travís.
When I play GTA IV on my Xbox 360 it sometimes hasn't fully loaded the area yet and occasionally takes a fairbit of time to load the areas graphics properly. I'm quite worried about it being worse in V due to the amazing graphics it will have. i'm not sure if it was just my Xbox or if it happened to other people but it's abit of a worry. Magic_Al
They get better at draw distance and level of detail with each game. The worst pop-in issue in IV, for me, was street lights at night. That really stuck out. It seemed to me they should have made the low-detail map actually have glowing streets, the same way building windows glow, and change to normal street with street light illumination when you get closer. Then all the streets in the distance would appear to be lit without having too many light sources and the transition wouldn't look like the lights turning on ahead of you. wwinterj
Happened to us all however the pop in improved a lot in Red Dead Redemption and I have every faith it'll improve even more. I doubt it'll ever be fully gone though but it's not a issue at all.
Ash_735
I remember when I made a nice detailed long post on here which pretty much answered peoples questions about RAGE and how it should perform on any platform it's on now after Rockstar invested soo much time and effort into it with Max Payne 3. It was a good post, I wish I saved it, because these stupid threads STILL pop up asking the same damn question.
I Luke
Why not use common sense? THINK... "Would they really add draw distance if it was a big problem?" "Why am I even that stupid, they're developing the game for current gen.. NOT next gen" "Maybe I'm gunna troll and make another useless thread about a topic that has been covered 100billion times"

TheGodDamnMaster
Aaron Garbut (Art Director) on the matter: "There have been some very nice advances in the lighting and shader model that gives us much more control and variety. The ramp up in scale has been exciting, new features that have meant essentially we draw everything into the distance. We used to “only” render 1.5 km at most in IV, now we render the most distant mountains at the other end of the world many, many miles away. You can even see the little lights on the streets or on buildings draw right into the distance. It all gives the world a whole lot more solidarity. Really though, on a project this size there’s a million things, small and big., that have given us the ability to push the experience." TheGodDamnMaster
Thank Sony and Microsoft for not updating these dinosaur consoles sooner. I was hoping that for next gen, they'd adopt a "living room PC" approach to console gaming. Every game released on the platforms would have minimum system requirements that are always the same as default parts the console comes with. Then people who want to get serious about their games should have the option to buy more parts so they can meet the "recommended" system requirements, or even more. Well sorry for answering like an "asshole" but that's what I brought up in my post. Sorry if you're so easily offended, but damn, we see this same question all the damn time here, people honestly think GTA IV Maxed out consoles. Dark_AnNiaLatOr
I almost don't want the draw distance to be "infinite," because I want the map to feel really big in the countryside. I want to get lost in the world. Above all, I want to be scared at night with that foggy draw distance effect around me. I want it to be like Back o beyond. I'm worried that some people will think V's map feels small simply because they can see everything from a single vantage point. I don't think enough people realize that the thick fog and short draw distance is what helped SA feel extra huge. When you take that away, it doesn't feel quite as enormous. (I'm not saying I want a smaller draw distance, though.)

Take a look at JC2 for instance.
dewan2000
Pop In will always be an issue on the current consoles considering the fact that they only have 512mb of RAM. Compare that too the PS4 that will have 6GB I believe?
d3ex2
Pop In will always be an issue on the current consoles considering the fact that they only have 512mb of RAM. Compare that too the PS4 that will have 6GB I believe? It's not the RAM, that keeps stuff in memory so you don't need to keep reading the Hard drive.. Textures are installed on the HD so that's where they are loaded from. You have a 5400rpm HD and it's obviously gonna cause more pop in than a SSD will. If you're walking then you will see less pop in because it gives the HD enough time to access the textures and load them. If you're in a car/plane then it has less time to access them so you notice pop in more. And ps4 has 8GB RAM. 1GB is for the OS only so games will have access to 7GB. That's 14x more than PS3/360. 16x more including the RAM for the OS. Edited May 10, 2013 by d3ex2

There is quite a bit of wide angle distortion going on in IV, especially above a certain height. And everything gets super stretched when you look up.
