MosquitoSmasher
Just now i was playing Red Dead Redemption, and so far it has been mostly a smooth experience, just like my first playthrough. But at one point in Armadillo i was just walking around and a few people on horses walked around, along with a stagecoach and a few people on foot and all of a sudden the framerate wasn't handling things well. Now these are just instances that happen and after that it's quite ok again, but holy sh*t look at what they have put/are putting in GTA V. It has a slice of RDR into it and a huge city full of buildings, interiors, vehicles and people. RDR and GTA V in that regard are no comparison, RDR is pretty much empty in comparison...yet GTA V is gonna run fairly smoothly according to previews? I would be lying if i said this didn't worry me a little. Max Payne 3, a linear third person shooter and that one didn't even run butter-smooth 100% of the time, it was mostly very alright, but it could bog down a bit. Has every single preview so far been saying that the framerate, sometimes they seem to call it lag, but it's not lag but ok, is pretty smooth? I'm not expecting butter smooth framerates in this game, i realize that there no doubt will be framedrops, especially if a scene gets incredibly crowded full of cars and explosions, but a horrible framerate that bogs down like a motherf*cker is definitely something that would ruin my experience. The fact that this game already looks so damn good is quite the achievement by Rockstar if you ask me, especially if you consider how old the hardware is, so how much more can we really expect, you know? iNero
tbh. I doubt it eill be smooth. And that could be a game breaker to me like in Far Cry3. but some people dont care. I do care and a sub 30 framerate is horrific!

I do care and a sub 30 framerate is horrific! Ah yes Far Cry 3. Well that one is a good example of how incredibly stuttery a game can be on consoles. Yet even with those problems, i enjoyed that game a great deal. So even with a rather bad framerate i guess i'd still enjoy GTA V a great deal as well. But that's not to say that it wouldn't suck to have a framerate that bogs down like hell.
Distrom
Just bought RDR on Amazon two weeks ago (awesome game ) and yes, the experience it´s very smooth, althought it has framerate problems sometimes, it´s a lot smoother than than GTA IV. Now, Im sure GTA V will be even smoother, just look a t the trailers, they look very smooth, but if you look at the GTA IV trailers you can see (in the gameplay parts, not cutscenes) that the framerate looks very low. iNero
I tried really it in Far Cry 3. But it was impossible to have any fun with this constant low frame rate. Especially me who plays on the highest sensetivity in every game. You can really feel how it gets slowed down. You can test it btw: just look on the ground and run or move the reticule and then make the same when looking normal towards. u really feel how its gets slighlty slower

Ooh yes, it's MUCH smoother than GTA IV, but i've always believed that's because the gameworld isn't nearly as packed as a GTA game. LOTS of open space in RDR and only a few towns and settlements. With GTA IV gameplay trailers you just mean videos by folks on Youtube? Cause the official trailers didn't contain any direct gameplay. @Inero I'm not really sure i understand what you mean
IDredMan
L.A. Noire and Red Dead have been very optimized, they run very smoothly and you barely even get any framerate drops, even fewer have them ruin something. GTA V has a lot of features, but it's highly unlikely all those factors will be present at once.

NudasPriest
I have a feeling that GTA IV was horribly optimized for either console and GTA V will actually be well optimized so it's believable to me that it'll run like RDR, Max Payne 3 or around that framerate, maybe even better. gtamann123
The only game I have ever noticed frame rate drops was in San Andreas. Pretty much every current gen game I've played I haven't noticed any difference.

Oh i see what you mean man, holy crap it's quite bad indeed there yeah. I don't recall any of that in the GTA V trailers we've gotten so far, no. Should be fine then, still....we'll have to wait and see. But it looks promising. Holy crap @how much better the final GTA IV looked compared to trailer 2 though, oh my. @gtamann123 I wish i could say the same man. But on a 60 inch plasma, things like that become much more easy to notice. In some games it's fine, in others its quite bad.

iNero
Every GTA game has low framerate. I don't think we can escape from that. actually not... III, VC and SA all had a proper framerate. some hick ups sometimes but only like a second and almost no slow downs when chased by police. IV was the first GTA on this Gen and the framerate was pretty bad. RDR had a proper framerate again. But from the scale of V i doubt it will be smooth this time around
MosquitoSmasher
@Inero I'm not really sure i understand what you mean what? I don't really understand what you mean with what you said about Far Cry 3 and testing it. I don't fully get the explanation....but it's alright man, i know that it can be pretty damn horrible in that game. Oh man i remember after playing a few rounds of Halo 4 and then switching to Far Cry 3....the difference was no joke.
CommonSeb
My bet is that they are gona compensate by lowering the texture resolution abit compared to Red Dead. The resolution has been mentioned in some reviews as being a bit blurry. That dont worry me much though cause they will make up for it with atmosphere and lighting. And also it is no problem cause that will make it only that much more exciting when the PC version comes. In addition to mouse and keyboard. It remains to be seen how the final build will be, but i really wouldn't mind a port for the next-gen consoles sooner than later, i'll simply buy a second copy, no problem at all. No PC gaming for me. But you'd think it should be fine...because this is GTA, they got RAGE pretty much nailed down, this is their last current-gen game, they are not gonna ruin it by having a horrible-ass framerate. dewan2000
For the most part it doesnt bother me, having played GTA 4 a bit recently I do notice dropped frames quite often. Hope it isnt any worse with GTA V. But I do notice it alot having playing PC alot. Hopefully we stick around 25-30FPS. Dropping below that can be quite noticeable
Meezarawcks
I played both Far Cry 3 and RDR and had no problems what so ever. The games were not any less enjoyable for me. Infact both are some of my fav games. As i've said before in many topics talking about this stuff is: IT IS ALL UP TO PERSONAL PERFERENCE!

I honestly can't understand how you can't notice it in Far Cry 3, cause it's really quite there. Not constantly, but oh my, the first time in that village before getting a handgun....it's very slow there. I'm with you there about FC3 being a favorite, it was my GOTY last year. RDR can only show some lower framerate when it gets too crowded in a town like Armadillo or whatsoever. For the most part that game is smooth. iNero
The consoles are around 9 years old, this isn't surprising. just stop with these BS " old hardware " posts... they develop for these consoles so they know what is too mucj- this is no excuse at all when titles are developed for consoles. Far Cry was another thing as it was ported from PC

Unfortunately, folks at Ubisoft decided that FC3 should have that horrible hue effect around characters, bogging down the fps. R* will know better. Far Cry 3 had a CONSTANT low frame rate that made the game feel like sludge. Which really boggles my mind because the pop-in on bushes and what not were terrible, the mountains in the skybox looked like they were made of awful .jpeg files, and so on. I've always been gameplay > graphics, but there's no excuse when games like Fallout 3 came out years and years ago, which run / and look better (in my opinion).
