universetwisters
I'm sure you guys've heard that there's going to be skill building in V. If you haven't heard about it, there is. From what I can comprehend, it'll be just like San Andreas, meaning that the more you drive, shoot, etc. the better of a driver, shooter, etc. you'll become. When you read this, were you disgusted, or was it just me? I hated the skills in San Andreas, especially given the fact that I was a good driver in III and Vice City, but when I first started San Andreas, all my cars spun out, etc. and that isn't cool. In real life, cars don't get easier to drive, you just get used to them.

123-bob
it adds more depth to the characters and adds more gameplay elements, i loved all the driving schools in SA and building up each skill

BlackNoise
If you're a good driver why would it matter? I'll probably max out my skills pretty early like I did in SA. And Franklin will start off with high driving stats anyway. It's one of the ways R* is getting us to appreciate each protagonist.

98 in 1
I doubt 'leveling up' will be a pain.*underwater tank* Haha, every time my driving skill went up in SA, it was usually during or right after I had crashed into another vehicle. OT: I really don't mind the inclusion of skills at all.
tenpennyisplainevil
Oh I can't stand all of you who are whining about the skills and abilities... You say that you are good drivers and don't need it, that it's something that caters to the newbies. Oh no, you don't need slow motion because you're so skilled already. Guess what? With slow motion you can do even greater things than you already can! No matter how skilled you are, slowmotion always grants you opportunities to do whatever you do with greater coordination. Stop acting like it's a 'press this button and do something amazing' thing, 'cause it's not.

shattered-minds
in real life, cars don't get easier to drive, you just get used to them. As in, you find them easier to drive? The skill level doesn't make the cars easier to drive, it makes the character better at driving them. Personally, I'm not that bothered. It makes sense in a game like Skyrim that has loads of skills to choose from, meaning there are always going to be skills that you don't level up and there's a sense of personal progression within the skills you do use and level up (for example, I'm lvl 100 archer but only lvl 15 in 2 handed swords). But because there are so few of them in GTA V it seems pointless as it seems that they are all 'skills' you will be constantly using throughout the game, so it is inevitable you will level them up so there is no sense of choosing to level up certain abilities over others. I'm not against them, I just don't really see the point in them.
stee_vo
I actually love that concept. Nothing like driving around on your bike and seeing the "bike skill upgrade" thingy appear in the corner.
Chukkles
In real life, cars don't get easier to drive, you just get used to them. Cars don't get easier to drive. Your right, but your skill level does increase. Everyday you drive you are learning and if you think you've already learned everything about driving you need to realise you haven't. The same can be said for shooting and diving/holding breath, all things that need practice and time and you will naturally get better. GrandMaster Smith
I liked the skill points in San Andreas but when I heard of them being in V I was kind of unsettled on the idea.. I think it was just because I was so set on the idea that they weren't going to be in cause I thought it was already confirmed earlier that they wouldn't be.. Anywho it should be interesting. I suppose if the mechanics have been stepped up a lot from IV, having a skill system to track your progression would be nice. I'm having a feeling they're going to make the game overall a lot more challenging. Sharks patrolling underwater locations, cops being much smarter using actual tactics to take you down, an overhauled gunplay system that will require a slight learning curve, revamped car physics ect.. PlatypusPedersen
I'm glad to see skills like that. Most likely I will be having so much fun exploring that I will level up on stamina, lung capacity, driving, shooting etc before I do much of the story. Exploring will probably be fun enough on its own, but nice to have added incentive to run around looking for easter eggs and all the other cool stuff that we will get. iNero
I love these RPG Elements. Liked them in SA where u had to practise with the same weapon to reach Hitman Level for dual wield
SP3CTR3
i like the fact that this feature is coming back. i know some people want a simple mission to mission game but honestly i'd rather have it like this. more to do in the game the better. one of the reasons i got bored of gtaiv, is that after you beat the game, there is nothing to do. at least this way you have a reason to go out and cause mayhem. GR7
I like making progress so I'm glad it's back as stee_vo said it's nice to see your character's abilities upgrade while your playing. Wonder if this means skills will carry over to multiplayer? like when you create your avatar you have to select areas you want your character to excel in e.g driving, stamina, strength etc.
latigreblue
But in San Andreas levelling up was not 'for nothing'. You needed to have a high driving skill to gain access to and win at the Los Santos Forum race. I hope that it means that in V, as wel,l there are more unlockables related to that. I really hope the day never comes when Rockstar bows down to give these impatient children everything all at once. Sometimes when you have to work at something, it makes you appreciate it more. PS: Franklin is smarter than you.
ainsz
I hope it works on a points scale and not a time/distance scale like in SA. Because that's not skilful, it's just grinding. It should actually reward you for skilful driving. Things such as drifts, winning races, driving fast, driving towards oncoming traffic over a certain speed and taking the roof down for the first time, hell yeah. But it shouldn't come up with a points counter on the screen every time you drift because that wouldn't be GTA. it should do it all behind the scenes. TheQuestfor100Percent
My skill as a player will more than overcome any lack of skill my character on screen has. The same can be said for shooting and diving/holding breath, all things that need practice and time and you will naturally get better. But thats not the case here at all. Your skill improvement is not dictated by your ability but how forgiving the AI allows the control system to become. If controls are nerfed from the start you can not drive or shoot at your full ability simply because the cars will handle like sh*t and the guns will fire inaccurately until the AI tightens it for you. I hate that and find no sense of accomplishment in it. The only way i could truely enjoy this type of leveling system is if upgrades to skill level were based on achievements and not nerfed mechanics. Such as getting a ceratin number of headshots will mean your stats will increase. That way you have earned the level by improving your accuracy not because the AI has adjusted the weapons accuracy for you simply because you have been shooting a gun for a longer period of time.
