visionist
Who's spared a thought for this? In IV the slow motion driving was practically unusable. I certainly never used it. In RDR Dead Eye worked a treat, and MP3 surely has an even better system (haven't played it). Fighting I have no idea. My idea is all three systems drastically slow down time as you enter your commands (aiming & pulling the trigger, steering & accelerating/braking, dishing out kicks & punches) BUT the commands themselves are not executed until you press the "confirm" button- whereupon your shooting/driving/fighting moves are displayed in real time, perhaps in a cinematic view. For instance: John Woo's Lat sau san taam (Hard Boiled) features Badass gunplay, including proper use of Slow motion (not tacky overuse as is the norm today). Skip to 57 minutes for a good example, especially 58:36; first the man turns & fires, and then we witness the immediate aftermath as the shells tear through fixtures. (ignore the horrible dubbing- the subbed version isn't on Youtube) Edit: For fighting, a decent example would be the hallway scrap in Haywire. Imagine inputing your commands in Slow Motion and then being treated to a real time ass whoopin' show... ...And for driving, Ronin provides a decent demo, as at 3:15 Bobby pulls the E brake and we witness the subsequent turn. AceHigh11
Didn't think of this yet. I loved the Dead Eye in RDR. Made you feel like a real fast gunslinger. Will Michael be able to slow down time too in close combat fighting?
Miss Darko
I imagine that Michael's ability is basically like the Bullet Time in Max Payne, but without the acrobatic diving around and seeing the bullets actually moving. It probably only works if he has a weapon, though. It might be like Dead Eye where you can only activate it while you are actively aiming the gun, and automatically turns off when you either stop aiming, press the Special button again, or run out of Special. Franklin's ability is likely just GTA IV's cinematic mode's slow motion, but from a normal gameplay perspective (I actually really love this, I can't wait to do some devastating crashes is slow motion with the normal camera angle). Maybe the car's handling is adjusted in relation to the slow motion, so as to increase the sense of having great reflexes in a vehicle. Trevor's ability, I don't think it slows down time. I think it's just basically a damage modifier for Trevor, and it might apply to every weapon, but allows you to do a special melee move when he's unarmed (that's what the previews are saying, anyway).
