DeafMetal
Activision has released some statements predicting lower revenue this latter half of the year. The most likely factor to this is the next-gen consoles coming out (obviously), but they also mention "well capitalized new entrants." Any other game come to mind that comes out at the latter half of the year that's been thrown half as much money as GTA V, and that has been absent from the market for a while? Anyway, just thought it was interesting enough to share. Good to know that other companies think the game will be a success. Durden
CoD will still outsell it. I doubt it, more of the same, or a fresh new game that's been 5 years in the making...? The former, unfortunately. This is exactly why I'd like to buy 2 copies of GTAV, for those asking "why".

The former, unfortunately. This is exactly why I'd like to buy 2 copies of GTAV, for those asking "why". I doubt it. Think about the already existing miilions of GTA fans, and mix that with the growing amount of CoD fans who are getting sick of that game and are considering abandoning that money grabbing bollocks to try something new in the shape of GTA V. I'm pretty confident V will make larger sales than the next CoD installlment.
TheGodDamnMaster
CoD will still outsell it. I doubt it, more of the same, or a fresh new game that's been 5 years in the making...? It's about brand familiarity unfortunately. GTA has been out of the spotlight for about 5 or so years, while CoD has continued to gain steam. Call of Duty Ghosts and Battlefield 4 WILL outsell GTA V, but it'll come close. Just check out best-selling on most retail websites and both games will top GTA V for pre-order sales. The former, unfortunately. This is exactly why I'd like to buy 2 copies of GTAV, for those asking "why". Actually, I'm putting my money on GTA this time. Next-gen consoles are a game-changer, and I doubt COD will be able to hold them off (at least this year, who knows next year). A LOOOTTT of their fanbase are made up of people who want to be trendy and aren't really "dedicated" like a lot of GTA fans. If they see their friends getting a ps4 instead of a new COD, then they'll follow. On the other hand, we're freaking starved for a new and better GTA and will buy it regardless of next-gen consoles or not.
VLongo92
Who cares if cod did sell out GTA? I don't want those annoying 16 year olds playing the game I built my multiplayer experience on! I've played every GTA since 3 except for Chinatown wars (cause I don't have a portable device) and I hate the kids that play free mode and f*ck everything up. So who cares. Hitman absolution hardly sold up to its expectation and that's the first HD era hitman game. Even if cod sold a new game every 4 years instead of annually it would still be a pile of sh*t. Hayze
It may outsell it in the short term but GTA V will most likely break records or come very close in life time sales... which this CoD will not do.
YoungChrist
"new entrants" doesn't make sense. Maybe they're referring to Battlefield, but even still Battlefield is not a new brand in any capacity.

DeafMetal
"new entrants" doesn't make sense. Maybe they're referring to Battlefield, but even still Battlefield is not a new brand in any capacity. Well, a formal GTA hasn't been released for 5 years, and this will be the first GTA that comes in the same time period as the next COD. So, if you take that into consideration, it's a "new entrant" to direct competition to COD.
73duster
I don't care about COD, or how much it sells. COD fans don't seem to care that they keep paying for very little in terms of innovation or something new. If you've played one COD, you don't feel like you are experiencing something new or substantially improved. That fanbase is perfectly content with paying for a rehashed product with not much more than a fresh coat of paint. Even worse is all of the "extra" DLC garbage that isn't much more than a bunch of SKINS and BS weapons. Every GTA is unique, and pushes the envelope in terms of quality, gameplay and content. COD is a military simulator with stories that are completely forgettable, and characters nobody cares about. I'm NOT a COD "hater". I think it's a decent enough game, but it is extremely repetitive, and isn't any deeper than a typical paintball match. So, that being said, COD may outsell GTAV, but it is NOT any indication of game quality, but more about a segment of the video game market that caters to those who are OK with paying for the same game over and over. BlackLightning
I hope GTA crushes CoD to dust. But I fear the stupidity of a lot of younger gamers will prevent this from happening. Not all bad since that means most of the idiot twelve year old crowd won't be ruining GTA's online.
Dick Justice
I don't really give two sh*ts about sales. I know, the more the game sells the more Rockstar make, but think of it like the box office scores at movies. Most movies that do well at the box office are your stock-standard comedies/super-hero flicks/anything by James Cameron, yet these aren't the best films, not by a long way, they'll never be considered classics or anything. Grand Theft Auto is the type of game that will be considered classic, nobody will care about Call of Duty: Ghosts in 10 years time.

I think people should appreciate how rare it is to see companies like Rockstar, who continue pushing QUALITY first. They develop groundbreaking games that stand the test of time. On it's BEST day, COD could NEVER have the impact that GTAIII had in the world of entertainment. GTA is like the Godfather trilogy, while COD is Twilight. I bet most of the CoD fanbase doesn't even know what GTA is! Uncomprehensible. But I give GTA a fair shot at this. CoD's fanbase has corrupted bigtime over the years, now they pretty much consist of kids from 5-14, who are too young to know GTA anyway, and a tiny group of 15+. The kids are an everlasting targeting group for CoD (effectively profitable, too), but GTA basically owns those who are old enough to remember the old games. I think GTA is going to hurt BF4 and CoD sales A LOT.
Gazabaza21
I predict that gta V will be the most sold game on this generation of consoles ever. I think the mulyiplayer is going to be a strong selling point this time around unlike gta IV. I do like gta IV multiplayer but it just wasnt enough thought put in to it for people to keep coming back and playing more, i miss the days where i could just jump straight into a team deathmatch on the airport and get a full lobby straight away
BaldadigeAnton
I know enough people who have bought CoD but are huge GTA fans. True, they aren't 10-16 year olds, but they bought the last two Black Ops games, and BF4. However, they will choose GTAV this time and their friends will buy it too. The word-of-mouth advertising will be strong with GTA, as always. And keep in mind, that we haven't had a proper GTA sequel in five years, so the build up pressure will release the moment GTAV launches. I really think it will outsell all other games. And I truly hope the multiplayer will be at least as immersive as the multiplayer of RDR. It would be awesome if we have the same free roam mode as RDR has, where you could trigger Heist missions with one group as police/swat and one group as the robbers. Whatever, I am confident R* will nail it with GTAV.

Deffpony
COD will initially sell more than GTA V, theres really no debating that. But GTA V will be a game that sells for years to come. COD fans make no sense. They bitch about the upcoming title while in line at the midnight release for it in front of gamestop...
