Alec Skorpio
I really really REALLY doubt there are only 5 stars. It sounds like it was a simple mistake/assumption (the previews also called the game world a "state" for example) Even if they did take one out, I wouldn't blame them. The difference between stars in GTAIV (outside of the search radius) became less and less noticeable after 4 stars IMO.
IronZombie
In the old games, there wasn't a lot of difference between 5 and 6, especially in GTA IV. No point to it, just combine them.
98 in 1
In the old games, there wasn't a lot of difference between 5 and 6, especially in GTA IV. No point to it, just combine them. 5 FBI/FIB. Fast cars, heavy weaponry. 6 Army. Fast Barracks OL's slow but powerful tanks (one tap would end you except in SA). In IV it was more so the size of the radius that grew to an epic proportion. If i'm not mistaken, the police start shooting out of their vehicles at five stars. Like Dick Valor and liquid snake have already stated, it could have been a mistake Kotaku made. Since there is a confirmed military base, i'd bet money that they will intervene on the sixth star.
gui_olecio
I'm going to use this thread to ask this: Do you think we'll be ale to escape from the police by underwater? I mean, underwater will be much more detailed than GTA SA and I don't think cops will dive after us. What do you think?
lol232
6 Star Wanted level in GTA IV was tougher than 5th, However, 5th Star wanted level was tougher than 6th in all GTA III Era games, seriously, those clumsy slow arse Rhinos and Barracks think they can chase me... Rhinos were only able to hold 1 and Barracks can hold too 2, and they would have an M4 or M16 (varies in GTA Games)... 5th Star Wanted level was better, their FBI Cars are much faster and they all hod 4 people, who shot MP5's... 5 Star Wanted level was much more deadlier than 6th mainly because of that, but I would like to see 6 Star wanted level in V, only if it's much more deadlier, there was a slight difference between wanted levels 5 and 6 in IV, but only a bit, I want more difference than that. DeafMetal
Probably thought it was redundant. My guess is: 1: One or two cops, no guns firing. 2: Few more cops, open fire. 3: The whole freagen police department and some FBI units. 4: SWAT teams, police department, and FBI. 5: Full-on military action with tanks, jets, etc. + #
Darth_Starkiller
Ok, it think you people are forgetting something here. III Era: 1 Star - A few cop cars, mostly bikes in SA and VCS 2 Stars - More cop cars 3 Stars - Helicopter, Stingers, Vice Squad in VC and VCS, Blockades 4 Stars - SWAT team, SWAT vans now make the blockades 5 Stars - FBI, Hydras 6 Stars - Army, Barracks OLs make the blockades IV: 1 Star - Just normal cops 2 Stars - A few more normal cops, will begin shooting more, shotguns 3 Stars - Mavericks, NOOSE Cruisers (faster) and Patriots, blockades, Predators 4 Stars - FIB and NOOSE Enforcers 5 Stars - More NOOSE/FIB, Annihilators, Sniper cops 6 Stars - More NOOSE/FIB And no, it was very easy to get 6 starts. In IV, there wasn't much difference. It'd be the best time to have only five stars, but R* wanted to keep it traditional. The III era way is more defined, so, IMO, V should be like this 1 Star - Bike Cops, a few patrol cars 2 Stars - More cop cars 3 Stars - Helicopters, Stingers, Blockades, Predators 4 Stars - NOOSE teams, blockades now made with Enforcers 5 Stars - FIB, Annihilators (now with shooting miniguns) 6 Stars - Army, blockades with Brickades, Hunters, Hydras and Army Boats But, by the looks of it, or the FIB will come with the NOOSE at 4 and the Army at 6, or no army Edited May 8, 2013 by Darth_Starkiller
v17
Who actually gives a flying f*ck about the amount of stars... It would be fun with 5 and it would be fun with 6, its just a ratio of police to army at set points. Its not going to be any easier or harder, its hardly a game changer. Does it really matter? Really???
Andreas
Why would they eliminate a star? That is an interesting question. I'm not sure if I'm the only one who feels that way, but to me it seems that having a 5 stars wanted level in GTA IV was more difficult to survive than having a 6 stars wanted level. Not everyone will agree with me on this but I think everyone agrees that the difference wasn't that big. That alone would be already reason enough as to why remove the sixth wanted star that was present in every GTA game so far. The difference won't be that big though in the end, it's just a minor change. samyG
I believe they're taking out the 6th star and again removing the Army element because they just want to focus on the local police department, the sheriff's dept, SWAT, and FIB. They figured anything over 5 stars wouldn't warrant that. Edited May 8, 2013 by samyG
Grand Theft Savage
I just thought about this... What if the way the police pursues you depends on where you are? Like if you are out in the mountains or desert, they just send the National Guard and Fighter-Jets after you and in the city they just have the NOOSE and FIB? Pilotmonkey
I wish they would add like a manhunt mode. You could hide IN all the map for hours and you would see several Helicopters (news or police) Spot lights, everything. Stealth could really help. Too late for that now. omer19992010
1 star-Police will chase you by foot and will try to beat you down and arrest you 2 Star-Police will use there guns and arrest you if possible 3 star-Helicopter and swat team,K-9 Unit Come after you 4 star-The FIB Come after you and 5 star-The Military comes after you That's how I picture the wanted system to be like

Beee
gta 1 only had five police heads.. so its good to see we are getting back to the roots in that area.. ChronoStinger
Because it's GTA 5 And GTAIV had six stars...Yeah that makes sense! On Topic...i think that 5 stars wanted system will be used this time to make it harder to gain next wanted level, so we wouldn't get another "star" by just running over two-three pedestrians! As for how exactly it will lbe managed - i guess that Cops won't use their guns at all (thats 2 wanted level star, cops start shooting from this point...), but instead you skip 2nd wanted level and right into 3rd wanted level, when all the forces become to appear, road blocks, swat teams and such (thats when cops will start shooting)! Cutter De Blanc
I just had a thought, since Michael has ties with the FIB perhaps they won't send them after you, and at five stars the military shows up instead.

LAPD 85
It makes me laugh that people want to see the Army return in V. How is having the Army going to be different than having SWAT shoot at you with an M4? The military in the previous GTAs did jack and was very easy to escape. The tanks did nothing to add to the experience. The only thing that I will give to having the military is the Hydra that shoots at you if you are in a helicopter or airplane but even then that wasn't very effective. I fully support Rockstar in having a 5-star wanted level system.
