I'm not upset whatsoever. The game is what the game is. It's looks like so much fun. I hope I'll get at least a couple of years play out of it. By then, the catelogue of next-gen games will be decent and more optimized for the next-gen consoles. Also more people will have them by then.

 

As much as I think I'll want a new console on release, I actually don't mind waiting a year after they release to buy one when more of my friends will have one and there's more games out for it.

seems like you only want a next gen console because you want to show it off your friends. but in reality no body cares if someone has the newest thing out, from my experience only the whiny kids become jealous (and rich woman )

 

And because youre getting a new console doesnt mean your old console wont just disappear. you can still play your old games. besides next gen isnt going to have that many games nor many players as modern.

Giant Bomb suggested that they could release V on next gen as a GotY edition including all DLC at some time 2014/15. that makes a lot of sense to me. A PC version is almost certainly going to appear and with next gen hardware being based on x86 it's not going to be a massive job to port it over. If this were the case then personally I would get V on release AND get a next gen copy to play though.

i'm kinda glad it is current gen.. then i don't have to go out and purchase a PS4 on day one.. but then again i don't really play that many different games anymore.. i got like 2 maybe 3 games that i look forward to, one is GTA second isn't even announced yet, so i can live with it atm. then maybe some day when i need the ps4 it could be cheaper, or on sale

You guys are going about it all wrong.  It's not R*'s problem or job to sell you on the next generation of consoles.  While it's true that just about every game company has at least one next generation title in the oven, the install base at this point is non-existent and unpr7 edictable.  They jusy spent five years on this game.  I have no doubt we'll not only a next generation port but a PC version as well, but all in due time.  So, I agree with that many others have said, keep your current consoles as there will be no backwards compatibility next generation except digital releases.  I just don't see point in selling off a 7-year investment just spend more money on a system that will maybe two or three breakout games.  I always give myself a rule: unless I can confidently name at least six full retail games that I'd want within the launch window (launch day + three months), I will not get that system until it either comes down in price or has more games.

So after you buy a new console from let's say between $300-$600, you're also going to drop another $360 on six new games? That's what it would cost for six brand new games IF game prices stayed at $60, and didn't move up to $70. For me, it only take one good open world game (Watch Dogs), or a good multiplayer game (COD: Ghosts or Battlefield 4) to hold me over until something else comes along. I'll be set at launch.

Actually, yeah. To me, a $1000 investment on a console within the first three months says not only will this system last me 5+ years, but I also have a somewhat immediate variety of games to play. At least 2 launch titles and another four across the first three months isn't a bad investment to me. Cashing out on this generation early, just spend the same $300-$400 plus one particular game sounds silly to me.

Man, how many threads on this are we going to get? Oh no, I got a new machine so suddenly my old one is incapable of being played after this date. A lot of you are delusional about how ports work too, in your mind it's as simple as a press of a button (newsflash : it's ain't that simple).

 

Gameplay wise, I doubt there is any next-gen game at this time that will have the same thought and depth behind it 

I agree. It's really sad and pathetic when you see kids act like all the current gen consoles will drop of the face of the earth as soon as next gen consoles are released. I can only assume that they have only been through one console cycle so think this.

 

During the first year of any consoles life the console doesn't have many games worth buying. It's always been this way so you will still have need for current gen consoles. Next gen consoles will be irrelevant until then. Maybe it's because I'm older or maybe it's because I'm smarter but I always keep my old consoles. Hell the PS2 was and still is the best console made to date in my opinion and there is no chance I'd get rid of all the great games on that system. I do plan on PS4 been my first next gen console but I won't be buying one for at least a year or two after launch and by that time more games will be on the system, it will cost less and there is a chance a slim version will be out. For games like AC:4 and Watch Dogs I'll buy the current gen version. I've been buying console games over PC games as my PC sucks so I can live without the minor differences on graphics and whatever. You can't long for and miss what you've never had.

 

R* shouldn't have to put there plans on hold just to please a small handful of people who will rush out day one and buy a new console and I'm happy they haven't. I'd rather R* wait a few years after next gen consoles release when more people own the systems and release a completely new game with possibly a new engine.

I strongly believe in Rockstar making a next-gen version too, as the upcoming consoles are a LOT more like PC hardware. PC version and next-gen version ported side by side possibly.

I do too, it just screams bad business to spend 5 years making a game for it to have a 4 - 5 month run before new consoles hit. It makes no sense to leave GTAV behind. They'll bring it forward to make more money out of it.

Yeah because they did that with San Andreas right? I'm not saying it's not possible to see a port or it been put up for digital download like bully got on the 360 but to think GTA V would loose steam and stop selling once next gen consoles hit is silly. Only a small handful of people will jump ship once the new consoles come out and until at least a year or two after launch the costumer base won't be anything to get hot and bothered about.

Do not buy it day one. Why?

 

1- Bugs. All consoles have bugs when they start. If not, there games will.

2- Lack of GOOD games. While some games are looking good on the next gen, I am sure they will be very basic. Making for a fun but rather simple games. GTA IV, anyone?

3- Higher prices.

 

 

Just wait a year, buy GTA V and play the f*ck out it, and then buy a PS4.

 

 

Hell, you can sell GTA V and put that money towards the PS4! It is a very good thing to do. At least, I will be doing just that. Maybe even two years.

Am I the only one bummed this is coming out so close to next gen consoles? It will release a mere 2 months before. I don't know about anyone else, but after I buy a next gen console (which I will day one) I won't want to go back to the old ones. And it's probably 99% accurate to say they won't be backwards compatible. It just sucks because I know I'm going to want to play this game for longer than 2 months, and I was planning on selling both my Xbox and PS3 right when the new consoles came out. Now it's looking like I have to hold on to one of them for one game, which is extremely annoying. Hopefully Rockstar ends up putting it on the next gen consoles as well, or I'm screwed. 

Same dilemma here, except I won't be selling my PS3. I will just be moving it downstairs do I can use it sometimes & watch Netflix.

 

For the first time ever, I'm buying a new console the day (midnight) it releases. I will buy GTAV twice if it also comes to next-gen, just so I can play it 2 months (at least) beforehand.

 

If V doesn't release for next gen, not even for a basic port, then I am screwed. So many games I wanna try like WD, Deep Down, Infamous, Killzone, etc... Basically every next gen game. I will have a very hard time with this -- I hope R* clarify soon.

Same here man. For the first time since a major console has released (Don't care about Wii U) I've been out of high school, and have a full time job. Even if there isn't many good launch titles I'm definitely buying it day one, at midnight like you. And I would definitely buy the game twice if it came out on next gen. But it still really sucks it's coming out so close. It's like buying a brand new car, and still driving your old car. I just don't want to do it.

Current consoles are still going to have amazing titles (TLoU, GTA V) and I doubt PS4/720's games are going to match up to those 2 in particular. It's the software that counts in the end. The hardware is just there to support it. That cannot be compared with an old and new car which are the core experience in themselves (driving them).

Right. It would have cost less to port San Andreas to the 360 like they did with Bully yet they never did. The simple fact was because it wasn't needed. GTA V has every chance going the same way.
