Am I the only one bummed this is coming out so close to next gen consoles? It will release a mere 2 months before. I don't know about anyone else, but after I buy a next gen console (which I will day one) I won't want to go back to the old ones. And it's probably 99% accurate to say they won't be backwards compatible. It just sucks because I know I'm going to want to play this game for longer than 2 months, and I was planning on selling both my Xbox and PS3 right when the new consoles came out. Now it's looking like I have to hold on to one of them for one game, which is extremely annoying. Hopefully Rockstar ends up putting it on the next gen consoles as well, or I'm screwed.

You probably shouldn't be jumping on the next-gen console bandwagon immediately anyways. They're not going to be worth it for like a year, because most launch titles are mediocre at best.

what is your problem if you say you won't be selling your PS3? then you can play it even when you buy new console.

what is your problem if you say you won't be selling your PS3? then you can play it even when you buy new console.

That's the thing. Chances are, 2 months later when next-gen drops, I'll probably still be playing GTAV for hours every day. This unconditional love for GTAV will get in the way of me trying out the next-gen games I will have purchased in November. So yes in theory I can play on my PS3 still, but it will be downstairs where my family watches TV very frequently.

 

That's why it would be superb if V came to next gen. The only repercussion would be buying the game twice, but like I've mentioned I don't mind.

I am in the exact situation you are in, as well. I know it is probably worth the wait, but it's a bummer that GTA isn't coming out until September, two months before next-gen consoles. I don't mind buying a copy for my Xbox 360 and for whatever next-gen console I end up getting, but it doesn't sound like GTA will come out on next-gen consoles, at least for a long while. In one of the Kotaku articles about the GTA V previews, the author said "I wish Rockstar would say they're making a next-gen version or a PC version, but the company line is that they have no plans to do so." I guess the next-gen consoles will have to wait, as I am looking extremely forward to GTA V. Big mistake on Rockstar for not making it for next-gen consoles as well as current gen IMO. Well, so we think, as they have not mentioned anything.

Same here man. For the first time since a major console has released (Don't care about Wii U) I've been out of high school, and have a full time job. Even if there isn't many good launch titles I'm definitely buying it day one, at midnight like you. And I would definitely buy the game twice if it came out on next gen. But it still really sucks it's coming out so close. It's like buying a brand new car, and still driving your old car. I just don't want to do it.

When the first DLC is released, I would not be surprised if it is packaged together in hard copy form with the original game for next gen consoles. Maybe a GOTY edition.

How is it even remotely close to being lazy? I don't want to buy a brand new, next gen console and then still play my 8 year old console. Like I said in a previous post, it would be like buying a brand new car, and then still driving your old one. When you get something brand new, you never want to go back and use your old dusty, what ever it is you're replacing. And like I said, I want to sell both my old consoles. It has nothing to do with being lazy, it has to do with moving on to newer technology, and never looking back.

You know what would be a great situation for people in our dilemma? If GTAV got pushed back a couple months to the day next-gen consoles release so we don't have to buy the game twice. It's not too far-fetched anyways considering the timing, and that R* tend to do a second delay for some games.

I am because my plan was to fully enjoy GTAV over summer break and then enjoy Watch_Dogs over Thanksgiving and Winter Break.

 

Now, it is pretty much play through GTAV as fast as I can to have it 100%ed before the PS4 and Watch_Dogs come out.

I don't have to sell them. I could keep both, and then buy a 720, and PS4 both day one. But I will never use my 360, or PS3 after next gen comes out (besides for GTA V), so what's the point of having them?

 

Edit: I could use the money from the 360 and PS3 to put towards a new console, so then I wouldn't have to use money straight from my bank account. So it's kind of a pain in the ass. I don't need to sell them, but my bank account would enjoy it if I did.

PS4 isn't backwards compatible locally, & there's no telling if the new xbox will be backwards compatible with disc. So I personally dont see the reason to rush and buy a next gen console straight off, like others have stated they're going to have very few games.

I agree that Grand Theft Auto V will be better in every way possible. GTA is my favorite gaming franchise of all times. But with that being said, I'm still buying Watch Dogs for which ever next gen console I buy. The game looks fantastic.

It would be worth it if for whatever reason Rockstar announced that GTA V would be a launch title for the next-gen consoles. Lol, I know that would never happen, but I am sure it would increase the release date sells of the next-gen consoles.

1.) Sounds a bit selfish to me. I hope you know you're not alone, and I doubt the multiplayer will be dead after a year, even if it comes next gen. There are a lot of people who won't be buying a next gen consoles for years.

 

2.) I've heard that the "720" will have a optional second drive you can buy separately, like the 360 had at launch with the HD DVD drive. That will make the "720" backwards compatible. This will probably be another 100 bucks if true, but It would probably be worth it, and a great way for Microsoft to bring backwards compatibility to the "720". And I have the money for a next gen console, and I've been dying for one for so long now, that I wouldn't be able to wait. The current gen consoles are so outdated. Plus there's already some solid games coming out for it, including Call of Duty: Ghost (with a brand new engine), Watch Dogs, etc.

You guys are going about it all wrong. It's not R*'s problem or job to sell you on the next generation of consoles. While it's true that just about every game company has at least one next generation title in the oven, the install base at this point is non-existent and unpredictable. They jusy spent five years on this game. I have no doubt we'll not only a next generation port but a PC version as well, but all in due time. So, I agree with that many others have said, keep your current consoles as there will be no backwards compatibility next generation except digital releases. I just don't see point in selling off a 7-year investment just spend more money on a system that will maybe two or three breakout games. I always give myself a rule: unless I can confidently name at least six full retail games that I'd want within the launch window (launch day + three months), I will not get that system until it either comes down in price or has more games.
