I swear If i See one more "AM I THE ONLY ONE" topic i will flip out in rage

OT: I really dont care much for underwater exploration, as the only thing i'll do in IV is FLY MY DODO or my Cuban 800

The map is still 3.5 times larger than RDR, 5 times bigger with water. I don't really consider it as a gimmick. I enjoyed the underwater aspect in San Andreas, and now we can explore the waters without having to worry about oxygene. It's a must in the ultimate open world game.

I feel sorry for OP who doesn't think it's exciting to re-enact James Cameron investigating Titanic. ALL while listening to Radio Gaga.

Or listening to the most relevant song possible (around 0:18) -

But really I just hope the submarine even has a radio.

Official General
Your post just explains why I (and others) are concerned about how much detail Rockstar put into this. Yes, this will be cool to go underwater, but people really won't care for it that much. GTA has always been about exploring the land, driving fast cars, shooting people etc, not putting on flippers and discovering lost treasure.

Rockstar said that they just wanted to focus on one city but yet they go ahead and essentially make a city-sized portion of the game under water which doesn't make since. So does this mean that Rockstar canned the idea of San Fierro/Venturas for the under water portion?

Again though, people back it now but when they play it, they would eventually wish that more land mass should have been the concern and not sunken ships, sharks, and starfish....

You make some valid points about Rockstar possibly sacrificing multiple cities to make a huge underwater section of the game. Many people wanted multiple cities and many of those same people were not happy when they realized that GTA V will only have Los Santos and it's surrounding areas.

But as for everything else you have said, I disagree.

Many people do care about underwater sections in the game, including myself. If the underwater sections of V are done right and properly with excellent attention to detail, I see no reason why many will not like it or care for it. I believe it would in fact leave many people impressed and amazed. Maybe you don't care for it, but I'm sure many others will. You only had to see how excited many people were on this forum when they first heard about underwater sections being in V, and also when the saw that shark and diver screenshot for the first time.

GTA is mostly about crime, violence, guns and cars, yes there is no question about that. But as most of us know, GTA is not just about that stuff. It is also about the creation of it's own re-imagined, unique, living and breathing world within a video game, in which the player immerses and interacts with. That is also the magic of GTA, that free, open-world environment that gives you the realistic feeling of actully being and existing in that world. Stuff like underwater sections only add greatly this this experience. Like PinkFloyd said, variety is the key, and that is something GTA has always been very good providing within it's gameplay experience. Not everyone just continuously shoot and blow up people and things every time they play GTA, many people just want to absorb the feeling if in a GTA world, like taking a drive through the downtown city lights or the countryside, talking a walk through the hood, etc. If Red Dead Redemption was just about cowboys and Wild West shootouts, then it would never have been regarded as one of the best games of this generation - many people also loved that game simply for the fact that it's environment looked and felt stunning and beautiful, thanks to the realistic, detailed natural environments.

It's funny how people complain about how much they want countryside and less city, we get this now, and someone now wants to b*tch about underwater levels ? Lool, you gotta shake your head.

I'm definitely interested. I don't know if I would say that I'm exactly hyped about it, but it seems like it will be cool.

I know that Rockstar is putting a lot of effort into the under-sea exploration, but to me it seems more like a gimmick. I mean, Rockstar (and the media) likes to continue talking about how GTA V is bigger than Red Dead Redemption (which really wasn't all THAT huge), San Andreas, and GTA IV. HOWEVER, a lot of this landmass will include the under water portion which is said to be really huge.....which also means that the actual land mass (surface) really won't be all that big in the manner that we think it will be because we aren't calculating the water portion.

I mean, when I get the game I will play around a bit with this under water portion, but I won't be spending much time on it. I understand that Rockstar (through the media) is trying to force-feed this feature to us because they put a lot of effort into it, but to me it just doesn't seem GTA to me. It seems more like some off-shot gimmick that Rockstar is doing just to show off what they can do and just how wild/wacky and non-GTA IV (aka serious) GTA V really is. To me GTA is cars, streets, and shootouts, not pretending to be a National Geographic photographer exploring the depths of the ocean.

Again, I believe we are ALL going to be in for a surprise at just how small the land portion really is when we get our hands on the game. I believe GTA V land will be just about 20%-25% bigger than that of GTA IV which will be a nice size, but when you compare that to how they hype it up to be, we are in for a huge surprise.

But yeah, am I the only one who is not hyped about this sea feature? Anyone else shares my concerns?

I dont give a f*ck if u r not hyped , i am!

When I read from these previews that they thought being underwater was breath taking and felt so alive seeing all those fish, reef and ship wrecks under there. that makes me excited cuz who knows what kind of stuff we'll find in there plus having the sharks attack you is gonna be awesome!!!!!

I'm going to use this thread to ask this: Do you think we'll be ale to escape from the police by underwater? I mean, underwater will be much more detailed than GTA SA and I don't think cops will dive after us. What do you think??

?

High enough wanted level & police frogmen enter the water via boat (I imagine police boats have scuba gear) & helicopter. Then you have a Thunderball style shootout underwater.

I must not be reading the same gaming sites as the OP. I have never felt that the underwater part of the game is being crammed down our throats. I in fact know little about it still. I'll be happy to check it out, to see what they've done with it. It makes up for all those times in GTA III and Vice City where I died to water because I couldn't swim.

Guess what, nobody cares, no need for a thread about this.

If you don't care you should of never commented thats the point of not giving a f*ck.

Caring=commenting

I'm hyped about the water in GTA V! Can't wait to explore a little bit. And it adds a lot to immersion, makes the countryside even more beautiful.

But, I don't think the ocean world should be as detailed as the land world. It's obvious where I'm going to spend most of my time.

Why does it matter if it doesn't feel like GTA anymore? Every single game franchise has to change. R* are being smart by bringing change. They're adding stuff in, not removing features, so people will have more things to do (and it's supposed to be interesting, not a small feature, but not a big one as well).

I like it if just as one more thing to do when you start running out of things to do.

Well I've completed the story. I did all the Stranger missions. Played the hell out of multiplayer. Gone on countless rampages. Ran every single vehicle there is off Mt. Chiliad.

Why don't I grab a beer (or Pepsi) put on some chill music (or radio station if the sub has a radio) and just check out what there is down there.

Check out the Alamo Sea and see what's sunk down there. Look for some boat wrecks.

It kind of makes sense for every character too. Michael could be doing it because hell he's rich and it sounds like fun. Franklin could be doing it because he's athletic and he feels like putting stupid stereotypes to rest. Trevor could be doing it in his underwear because he just got some really good meth and woke up on a boat with a ruined engine.

I genuinely couldn't care less about going under water except as a means of escape. I'd have been happy with a lake but the whole ocean/sea? Nahhhhh.

Isn't it 3.5x the size of RDR and 5x bigger when adding the water in the mix?

Still much bigger.

Incorrect, it is 3x the size (or 3.5x) of Red Dead Redemption WITH the underwater being included. And from the previews, the underwater portion is HUGE which means that the actual land part is only like 2x or 2.5x bigger than RDR which really isn't that big when you facter in the fact that there will be cars and planes. Remember, in RDR we got around on horse which was a bit slower which in essence made the world feel huge.

This is exactly what I am talking about, people will be in for a huge letdown when they actually play the game. I think people aren't accounting for the fact that the underwater takes up a huge part of the game as the previews say and that the actual land won't be as big as we all hype it to be.

Wrong. It's 3.5 times the size of RDR not including the underwater area, and 5 times bigger than RDR including underwater area.

I disagree about the map size, as I trust R* when they say it's massive. Though, I'm not too excited about the underwater stuff either. Actually if there's one thing about GTA V that seems even remotely "hyped up" to me it's the underwater exploration.

That could easily go either way though; it's either underwhelming and a pointless aspect of the game, or it will be very rewarding in terms of actually experiencing it.

I think it adds a ton to the game having an underwater world. It will be a great feeling ripping around on a boat knowing that beneath the waves is a living breathing interactive world. Though it isn't the top of the list on things to do in the game obviously, i will no doubt be exploring the underwater area in either scuba gear or subs, or even escaping the police by hiding in a shipwreck underwater, going hunting for sharks with a spear gun. Or hell, even role playing james bond in the movie Thunderball and getting into some underwater skirmishes. Landing a float plane on the ocean and getting your scuba gear out and see what's down there, maybe you're lucky and you find something valuable.

It just adds a lot of other stuff to do while you're on the water, and when you're in a city that is right on the pacific coast, not having anything to do in the water would be really lame.

Good god, i am getting myself even more stoked just thinking about it. Don't worry guys, R* will get it right.

I wonder what this means for blue hell, if someone finds a way to take a helicopter or plane into blue hell, would the helicopter then be able to shoot INTO the water from a side on angle?

Dude, it is pretty much confirmed GTA V will be at least 20 square miles in size without including the explorable water areas; that's more than twice as much as IV's landmass. Read the Los Santos mapping thread. smile.gif
