saintsrow
Carcer City would be a good turn, Manhunt, it's been mentioned in every GTA since III. Even the Stories ones I believe, not sure about Chinatown Wars though, never finished that one. It'd be a hard one to do, if you go by Manhunt it's a fairly bombed out ruined industrial city, kind of hard to do a lot of "Wow!" exploring in a city that's at it's best when it's midnight and raining as if the city slash setting itself were some dystopian ruins. Vice City worked because it was the '80s, and basically a huge huge play on anything Michael Mann ever did lol. It successfully captured a period of time, San Andreas recaptured the early '90s the same way, it put you there. I think when you do current-day satire or spoofs it's a bit harder, because you don't immediately think 10 years down the line we'll be going "Remember the shake weight?" like we did with "Remember the pocket fisherman." or "What was with tye dye?", but Rockstar Games has proved time and time again it's quite good with the spoof brush. ^.^ Story wise? It's limitless. But I think honestly Rockstar Games is at it's best when it's capturing the essence of a time period, Vice City and San Andreas really stand out in my mind more than the first top down GTA, III(and LCS), CTW, and IV do. But it's hard to compare *now* with childhood memories. :x Excellent post. Nostalgia is a powerful feeling. So then, what has Michael Mann done lately? That work will be the signpost to GTA 6. tenpennyisplainevil
Well, someday there won't be any broadening possible. Yes I know people probably also said this about SA, but I think V is as big as it gets. I mean, they spent 5 long years on this. If they go bigger than this the development would take years longer... too long. I think that when we're looking at 7 years dev time and up, the fanbase will collapse in the meantime. The most we will be getting with next gen is new features and better graphics. And SA is probably the first and last to have multiple cities. 5 years is long enough. They can solve this by expanding their dev team, though, but that would cost them.

This was one of the major problems with working with the current gen hardware, and is said to have been addressed.
bobgtafan
Instead of doing one really large city like Los Angeles, they could just cover a whole region, like say the Gulf Coast cities including New Orleans in a Red Deadisk skip the countryside you don't care about manner. Dig this game concept. 1968 AND 2008 Gulf Coast from Houston to Florida Panhandle Main themes of racism and potential 4 main characters, both are interracial criminal couples. And bam you have the best GTA ever made. That was..what 10 minutes worth of thought? Just think a bit it wouldn't be that hard to top GTA V. And there's still those two cities from Manhunt to explore; Carcer and Cottonwood. So much potential really. Changing seasons, changing time periods in one game. Just think about what GTA hasn't done but should and that's what GTA VI will be like in our thoughts until we get more details, much like GTA V did. Hopefully we won't have to wait as long... redx165
Don't expect the next GTA to be as great as GTA V. Look at SA to IV. Sure it looks better but it isn't better to most.

To me, IV was better then SA and also, the next gen consoles are meant to be easier to make games on. So I'm not affraid that it could be better. DoomsdayFAN
LOL, 5 years from now when they're about to announce GTA VI, this current one will be so old and tired, we'll be complaining about how boring it is, etc. Believe me, they will top it. When the time comes, it will be topped.

Nah Tso Gud
This is a pretty good question, but it sure as hell isn't one I'm worried with at the present time Let R* worry about that after they claim all dat GTAV money.
LeThaL AsSeT
Everyone says next gen is easier to develop. I hope so. They say the next gen architecture is pretty close to PC architecture which means this is as as close as they have ever got a console to a PC at least on the PS4, not sure about the next xbox but anyways the closer consoles get to high end PC's the easier the development process will, this gen sony really made it a pain in the arse for game devs with that cell processor but once ppl got it down it worked wonders but the downside was it took way to long for devs to get a hang of it
dimitrispgr
V is going to be the best game ever.- Watch the trailers, and read the previews summs. The ultimate playground. Driving, Shooting, Story, Humor, Tons of Activities, Hiests, Living-Breathing World and underworld, Customizations, Music........ Then they will probably start developing a lower depth GTA VI but with next gen graphics. This will make the impact IV made. Its not as good as San Andreas but if you play IV you cant play San Andreas again with the same fun (because of crap - comparing to IV graphics). Then the same. A bigger world, i guess with two big cities, with next gen graphics and some fresh ideas like "three protagonists". What puzzling me is how much time they will need. PS. I've noticed in the past few years that Miami and South Florida has made a bit of a comeback TV wise. You got that glades TV show and my favourite, Bun notice. Including vice City in a multi City MMO game could well be on the cards.
Above
It should be quite easy if the money and hardware allows improvement, they always learn from what they do.
Gtaghost22
How in the world are rockstar going to top this long developed masterpiece? They can (and they will) because they are Rockstar. Simple.
skyfamster
Dan houser is out of inspirations,If they want to continue the magic, they need to get another artist to write the story script, but not about the supernatural world, stay with the culture, culture is the essence of gta. d3ex2
GTA V is amazing but there is so much more they can do to take the series forward. For a start the map can only keep getting bigger and bigger. They are creating cities now but they could go onto states, countries and continents. They could keep going until they create a virtual earth inside a video game. They could also push forward and have us control 4 characters. Maybe even more! Graphics and AI will improve as time goes on. There is loads left for them to do. rare.steak
This is just something an uncreative mind would ask. Gameplay dynamics, interactivity, physics engine, AI to name a few can be vastly improved from what we see today.
geoff900
It's a pretty daft question, with iteration of new hardware, you are able to do so much more than you can currently do, the fact you have much more GPU/CPU power will allow for more characters, larger worlds, more detail etc would be a huge leap. tator1
Rockstar will top GTA V with the next GTA. They are going out and trying to make this game as realistic as possible, and with the next gen, thats one step closer. They have said as said before in earlier posts in this topic, they will not stop until they can realistic simulate life. My belief is that eventually they will bring all 3 cities into one game, LS VC & LC, as these cities were the main cities for older games, and make them work together. Next gen only brings unlimited possibilities to what gaming companies can build, much better specs much more realistic ideas can be brought and produced. Rockstar has some time to play around with the new engine before there next game or even the next GTA game, so they will use it to its full potential and produce a masterpiece better than what GTA V is about to become. DS 17
Of course this is not a masterpiece. Just have a look at the graphics. They can enhance them a lot. AI and so on not to be mentioned. Map can become bigger, story longer and so on. No game will be a masterpiece. There will always be something to improve.
cuoreviola89
In 10 years you'll look at Gta V in the same way you see Gta San Andreas today. "Squared" characters, lack of details, texture, realism. Limits don't exist. Or if they do, they're still very very far from where we're now.. In 7-8 years (2 gen of consoles after the actual one) things will look pretty much photorealistic, and also A.I, phisics, weather, console calculation capacity, vastity of the map etc will improve. This is a fact. Edited May 9, 2013 by cuoreviola89

DlZZEE
This made me realise that GTA V will have a very long lifetime, like even now a lot of people play San Andreas, Multiplayer on PC is very popular cuz it got much more features than IV, so GTA V will be extremely popular until GTA VI comes out, guessing it will take a few years to develop it.
