sshsoldia
I did a search before, so excuse moi if this has already been brought up. So I just got around to reading the "Heists" article on IGN, and something struck me as curious: Switching between characters isn’t just limited to when they’re in physical proximity. You can hop between them no matter where they are in the great city of Los Santos and beyond. So what about a heist that takes place with each character in different parts of the map? Michael could take the ‘mark’ out for dinner, buying Trevor time to sneak into his office. But what about the security system? No worries, Franklin’s got it covered – he’s broken into the security firm on the edge of town and disabled it remotely. While it’s easy to imagine GTA’s heists are straightforward bank jobs, the ability to switch between characters who can be anywhere in an entire state really explodes the possibility of what we might traditionally consider a heist. http://m.ign.com/articles/2013/05/04/grand...ollywood-heists Now, I know exactly what has been said about SF & LV not being in the game, but does the size of the map that has been explained really add up? I mean, I read somewhere on here that the 3.5xRDR thing comes out to 7 gta 4's. Really?!? That sounds like enough for a state to me. Lets say that LS is around 1.5x gta4. Another 1x gta4 for the small towns. That still leaves 4.5x gta 4 for the countryside. Either the countryside is almost too big, or there's enough for another city to be out there. And the 180 degree FOV that CVG explained they were 'allowed' to see, watup with that?! Any input?
sshsoldia
Annnnnnd theres still 2x RDR left for underwater exploration. Now you could say the Alamo Sea would take up a lot of the 3.5x RDR space, but no. That should count towards the 2x RDR water space.

Tobias_Rieper
Any input? Officially, it is a little odd. But may it also be possible that because there is countryside and desert areas... That it is now what makes up the HD era San Andreas?

LotusRIP
I really don't blame IGN completely for this one. I think it was just a figure of speech, they didn't mean that GTAV will include the entire state of San Andreas. They were just mentioning the fact that it's set in the state of San Andreas and how there's so much vast land to get lost in outside the city limits, sort of thing... I think people are just taking things too literally.
Dick Valor
I think people are just taking things too literally. This. People need to take the previews with a grain of salt. One reviewer out of dozens casually (and probably mistakenly) mentions that Franklin had "four out of five stars" and suddenly hundreds of GTAF members are convinced V will have a five-star wanted system instead of six. Journalists make mistakes; let's not jump to conclusions.

Anyway, It's a neat piece of speculation, but that's all it is. Don't get you're hopes up, because it most likely won't happen. And hating IGN is like hating Dane Cook. You don't move as fast underwater as you do on land, so it'll probably be slower to move underwater than it would to use a horse in rdr, so it'll feel THAT much bigger under there. And about IGN: yea i know that they're a little shady, especially with their video player. But they get invited to see gta v and other games, so they have some degree of respectability. It just seems a little bit easy to brush off the use of the word 'state' as a mistake for 'city' or 'map'. It seems like a pretty specific word. Am I so wrong for holding onto hope that the past 5 years still hold an epic secret?

Am I so wrong for holding onto hope that the past 5 years still hold an epic secret? You are not wrong for holding out hope! When Rockstar is concerned, there is always hope to be had. I personally believe that GTA V will be their own personal swan song to this generation of gaming, and with that in mind I expect them to blow my friggin mind. There's no way they've been working on this game for half a decade and are only giving us one city. I think that you may indeed be onto something here with that quote, and it has reignited my own faith in what has been my favorite franchise for as long as I can remember playing games. With the amount of info they have released recently, one could say that we know almost everything about this game. We know the characters, city and surrounding country side, the gameplay mechanics, a lot of the vehicles (if certain sources are to be believed), oh and the general plot line of the main story... Now when has Rockstar ever revealed so much of a game and left no one surprised when they actually play the game for the first time? They even said that they are holding out on so much more, what could it possibly be, besides at least one more major city? I could be wrong, and it could have just been shoddy journalistic reporting... But I hope not. I believe GTA V will, once again, prove that Rockstar is the king of open-world crime games. RedDragonsBOOM
The article isnt saying that its an entire state like one based off of ALL of California, rather it is saying that it is a state sized map in the same way that Red Dead had an international map with a state and another country. It will be a large map, but to say it will be one the size of a real state would be possibly blowing it slightly out of proportion. Maybe the size of a state like Rhode Island if anything heheh. I'll wait till proof from a reliable source is out or wait for the game. *Raises a pint* to the guys at CVG + GI - they seem to get things correct and are genuinely excited for this game Gotta love CVG 5 o'clock
