MosquitoSmasher
I had a hard time coming up with a decent title, so i did my best to make sense. Remember in all the GTA games if you were driving a luxury car like a Infernus and how all of a sudden you'd see a whole lot more of the Infernus cars on the road? Or in III, VC and SA where you'd be driving a Manana for example and you'd see lots of them right away, lol. Correct me if i'm wrong, but GTA IV still had this "issue", didn't it? It wasn't as bad as the previous games, but there still would be more of those luxury cars all of a sudden. I actually think this is a very challenging thing for Rockstar to handle, and how they handle it. I mean...in real life, it's incredibly random what cars you are going to be seeing on the road. What would be the best way to tackle this? Have more luxury sports cars driving around in rich areas of Los Santos and more simple, affordable cars in the more poorer areas? I'm not sure anymore...but wasn't it incredibly random in GTA IV as well? Sometimes out of the blue you'd see a luxury sports car along with the more simple cars, but it was never really like that you'd see expensive cars in rich areas of LC. Not sure what the rich areas would actually be in LC tbh.
visionist
It's a software issue: the game runs a lot smoother if different vehicle models on-screen are kept to a minimum. It's never going to go away, I can assure you. R* said it would, before SA, and they said it would again, before IV. It didn't and it won't. The only upshot is quickly nabbing a pristine version of a car you've wrecked, or one in a nicer colour.
Grand Theft Auto TOM
Finally somebody who started this thread. It's a real pain in the ass you can actually find more of the same cars if you drive the same one. That's SO unrealistic. Hope R* will change that. There are more cars than ever before in GTA V, but that doesn't mean you can't find the same cars behind each other. In the trailers and screens I couldn't spot this problem, although. Not sure what it's really. According to the comment above me it wouldn't be possible, but I hope there will be any change. Like less of the same car. At least just two of them, but never more. And expensive (sport) cars should appear once at one place. That would be a great difference. Edited May 7, 2013 by Grand Theft Auto TOM
EvilFuture
I always looked at it as a good thing because then if you wrecked your car there was like 8 more to choose from. But I do agree that it is very unrealistic and I hope they change it, although I think it will stay the same.
UberVIIX
Just being able to customize cars will help even if they spawn the same...
Knife
I actually noticed it more in GTA IV than any other game. Streets would be lined with even the rarest cars as soon as you're driving one. I don't know why Rockstar doesn't just make it so there's one less car type spawning. I'd prefer less cars over having them all be the current car I'm driving. MosquitoSmasher
If it indeed makes the game run smoother, i'm all for it. Cause that is a very important aspect of the game. Even if this hadn't been a issue, i still believe it's very tricky and challenging to properly develop this. The only solution to this i think is have luxury cars driving around in rich areas and that would make sense too actually. If you go to Cannes, you are bound to see some sick cars driving around, because it's not exactly poor around there. So i'd really like if they would make it a bit like that. And if you'd find a luxury car in a rich place...and then drive into poor territory, these same cars shouldn't spawn. Maybe it's something they just can't really fix and who knows...maybe next-gen. I noticed it sometimes in IV, but not all that bad. I would see one or two whilst driving in a rare, but not every. The bad thing was spawn points. Especially on the right turn coming off the Northern Algonquin bridge into Bohan. It just spawned about 10 of the car you were in, all parked up. That was the most noticable for me. thebestgameever
I really wish they try to sort this out, not only does it make a car feel a lot less special, it also ruins the immersion ( lol, but it is true) GTA IV MULTIPLAYER seemed to do it right. In the MP there was a cycle ( cycle, A, B ,C ,D for example) and each group had certain cars that spawned with it, say group A had an infernus and you got it and kept it long enough, you could be the only person on the server with the infamous since the vehicle cycle would have changed and stopped spawning the infernus at the same time not spawning the car you are in 1000 times like in the SP. This obviously got very predictable, I basically knew exactly when a certain car would spawn ( forgot now, but I did back in the day) but a better than how it is in the SP. Just add more cycles and dynamically change the cars spawned in each cycle ( super cars have less chance of spawning) and it would be fine. Now what I just said may not be the case, but this is what I experienced online and since I knew exactly when certain cars would spawn, it was proven in my mind. So it seems like it may be possible. Druffmaul
This is not something they keep overlooking during development, i.e. "Oh sh*t! We forgot to fix it so that the same cars don't spawn just because the player is driving one!" It's a technical thing that's part of software optimization. Yeah, it'd be nice if it wasn't this way. But it has to be this way in order for the game to run decently. My best suggestion is to do what I did: get over it.

MC_9
Surely there has to be a way around it. Why can't they just switch off what ever car you are in from the spawn. So once you are in a certain vehicle, you will not see it a again until you get into a new car. I would prefer to have less different cars in a single spawn, then see the one car you are in everywhere.
Maglev
It wont be as bad as IV I think. I'm sure they worked on it. But it wont be gone completely. Too much to load. The consoles need way more RAM. And even on the pc IV runs much slower when you mod those settings. (Everything takes more time to load, driving without streets if you turn it high lol) Improved? yes Gone? Nope
MosquitoSmasher
Holy sh*t at that Infernus video. I actually find it a bit funny, plenty of spare Infernusses there, wow.
Alec Skorpio
Yeah, it's a RAM issue I think. It could probably be fixed on PC with an option or a check of how much RAM you have, but since most gaming rigs probably are not packing (much) more RAM than consoles they don't bother. visionist
I don't expect ANY improvement until next-gen, and even then; I remember everyone thought it'd be fixed for this gen from SA, but it only got worse...
cuoreviola89
Can you explain me what's the real difference between walking and driving a veicle? While you're going by foot, there's a certain amount of car models showed on screen, and rarely a "good" one appears (and you start running very hard to reach it before it leaves). What does really change when you're driving a car then..? they could just show the same amount of cars that were showed before, when you were walking.. i don't think that 1 single car model can take much processor memory, the difference is minimum
visionist
I think, and I may be wrong, that the game runs more intensive when you're driving, as it has to load things quicker due to your higher speed, and the vehicle animations themselves taking up more space. That's the only way they can have such huge maps with no loading interruptions. Having more than 120 vehicle models spawning randomly is unfeasible, that's why the devs opt for loading them in batches. Which creates the problem being discussed here. I suppose the problem will continue in next-gen. It doesnt matter how powerful the system is, because most of the raw power will be used up by graphics. Cyper
It totally breaks the immersion and makes it harder to finder certain cars.

Cyper
On the other hand, that would not make much sense either. In practise it would mean that if I drove a Sanchez then no one else would.
omeromer
I noticed it when I picked up the Sultan RS in GTA IV, a car which you can only find in it's spawning point behind a house, you never see it just driving around. Once I got in it and started driving in the streets I noticed a lot more started appearing in the streets NPC's driving in them, as if this car wasn't rare at all. meowstache
thats right, then apply this to supercars only. I dont mind seeing other sanchez around while driving one, but it would piss me off to see everyone and their moms got a Veyron as soon as i get in one. friendly luggage
The traffic in singleplayer GTA IV is not too bad. It could be improved but the low RAM of consoles does limit the variety on screen. Perhaps they've optimised it more in GTA V? With GTA IV, I think some vehicles shared textures to reduce memory usage.

Exactly, there was definitely some kind of issue in Bohan. I wonder why it's so bad on that little island.
