Beee
ill bet that cars we buy, will just end up in either your garage or maybe some kind of a repo, once you left them somewhere or blew up and you have to go and pay some money to pick up your car some place.. if you left the car somewhere, yes. Or if you get busted in that car. But I think if you destroyed your car, you should buy a new one. Basically, take care of it and don't use your new expensive car on dangerous missions... I'd quite prefer the Mafia 2 approach. f*ck up the car, and it'll appear in your garage, BUT you have to repair it first. (Obviously make it a bit more expensive than it was in Mafia 2, as well, that hardly made a dent in your wallet). I could see that. Would be fun IMO. Aye, it would, and it would, while still not being terribly annoying (having to buy a new car over and over) punish you for messin' up your ride. i'm in for that yeah.. agreed it worked well in Mafia 2.. It would be a good way to handle it with smashed up car..
gmcb007
I hope we have a range of classic cars that cannot be found on the street such as the Aston Martin DB5 we saw in the second trailer. sh*t, I wouldn't mind owning my own private shamal as well! zakace
One cool thing would be if you parked a car you had purchased at the side of a road it would stay there, would be great.
BUT THE BENZ
this made me think: there is a skill bar called "mechanic" isn't there? maybe that bar dictates how much reparations for your stuff costs or how quick you can fix it!? be it cars or weapons or whatever

If I buy a car, I want a few things:- Can't be found on the road to steal. - If left behind, it will spawn at the last garage/parking spot you saved it in. Love Fist Grouppie
I suspect that they are to be seen being delivered to your safehouse on one of those flatbed / car transporter trucks. A few screenshots depict it, and in the second trailer an old Aston Martin type car can be seen coming off the back of one. Maybe we can hijack one, which is en route somewhere... perhaps the website Auto-eroticar will return?
zainzombie
Isn't GTA more about stealing cars? I don't see the added value if you buy one, wonder how this works out You steal a car and spend money on it (customizing), you get in a chase/shootout and your customized car gets blown up. It means you will have to customize that particular car all over again (which can be annoying the 15th time you do it) plus spend more money on something thats temporary. Im assuming that if you buy a car and it explodes, you will be able to get it back from the garage.
MosquitoSmasher
Plenty of people that don't have much affinity with GTA would say.....so? But me..i say AWESOME. We finally simply can buy a car instead of stealing it, don't know about you guys, but the cars i've stolen never really felt like mine, if you know what i mean. I'd simply steal one and eventually just trash it in some place and never look back. If you buy your own cars, i think it will be very different. Awesome all the stuff that they are adding. One thing is clear...we really know the reason for the delay now. @zainzombie That remains to be seen. In Sleeping Dogs the car would indeed return, but if GTA V is going for more realism..you'll have to buy the car again and all the mods you've installed on it...damn. Leaving your car and when you come back to the parking space where you parked it, it's still there. Not sure how that will be with stolen cars, but I can't realize your car is gone if you bought it. AZAZEL
Whats the point when u can jack any car you want? Again, if you've spent loads of dosh on customization, or if it's a rare car you can't just stumble across on the street.

I agree, as I said it was just my assumption. But if you dont get the car back like SD, then there is no point in buying them anyways (unless they are unique cars). I dont think R* would make us buy the same cars again and again. I understand realism but then again, our character respawns everytime he dies... so why not cars? guitarviking
Whats the point when u can jack any car you want? To you, and everyone who has this frame of mind : Don't buy em then But for some of us (Myself included), I love immersion. I simply can't play a game and really enjoy it, if I can't immerse myself into it (Skyrim being the prime example). Of course, GTA V won't be like Skyrim at all, BUT! Why would Franklin, Trevor and Michael go through all this crime sh*t, risking their lives all the time, if they can just steal what they would use the money on? Buying a car gives the heists and all the crimes commited a sense of purpose, and gives us as ingame reason to do what they do, other than of course the story driven motivation, we actually get to see that motivation being played out, maybe even dictating the motivation. So all in all = Buying cars and customizing them so they are uniquely your own, is about immersion and "logic" for most people I reckon. It's why they steal, to be able to buy nicer sh*t, and we want to be able to do that. In GTA IV they always talked about the big houses, the cars and all that sh*t, but it never really appeared. But it can now, and we f*cking love it!

I hope that you can not just sports cars but ANY kind of car, as well. Speaking of that: Does this mean we might actually see the manufacturers in gameplay now? After all, I would love it if you actually had to hit up a Vapid dealership to get a Bullet GT or a Declasse one to get a Coquette. I really hope there's not just one or two generic dealerships. Again, if you've spent loads of dosh on customization, or if it's a rare car you can't just stumble across on the street. Exactly. There should be cars that you'll rarely see on the street and you can purchase these. Also for the fact that i like that there's a lot of possibilities in a game, so just for the sake of being able to buy a car is great. Sleeping Dogs has it and it works great, it's fun. It's time i go to that Infernus dealer in GTA IV..i'm like...damn man, why didn't they put a buy option here.

That's a bit too easy, why would you leave your car behind at the first place? What happened to the challenge of taking care of your car? First Checkpoints (Anyone who gave R* such an Idea is a Pussy) now people want their cars to be saved in their garages if they've been left behind. This is way way way too far from realistic. How about Police Impounds like in San Andreas? IMO, regaining your vehicle with cops on your arse. I like.

Darth_Starkiller
I hope there's a system like RDR, but with some differences: You buy the car, then choose which will be spawning at your safehouse. It'll always be there, and retain customizations. If you change cars and go back to a customized, it'll return customized. Also, hope for buy-only cars. Capricornus
The is excellent news! I am happy with this feature as well. If you leave your purchased car on the side of the road, it stays there. If you get busted in the car, it gets taken to a police impound lot. If your car blows up, it gets taken to a garage/ wrecking yard (where it will be repaired). With the Police impound and Garage, you should be able to either have to pay to get the car back, or you can steal it back.

Kifflom112
why would you leave your car behind at the first place? Sometimes I like to get out of my car and go sight-see and the result of doing that leaves me somewhere far from my car. In IV, if you did that, your car wouldn't disappear as long as you didn't use a car while you went to look around. I'm serious, if you park a car in Beachgate, press Sixasis to head to the airport, then walk back to your car, it'll still be there. I hope it's like that in V, but I also hope that your car just won't despawn no matter what you do. If you paid for it, why should it disappear when you leave it somewhere to use another car? Yeah, like GTA III, where there were actually car jackers at times, i loved that, lol. By the way, as for parking your car. The previews spoke of owning property, but i don't remember if they said that includes garages too, does it? I missed the garages from the older GTA games in GTA IV. Parking space next to the house is cool i guess, but a garage is MUCH better.
StrapfordLondon
What i rekon would be cool is if you have stolen a car, it will be wanted by police (or maybe a gang if stolen from them) until you have given it a paint job and changed number plate & the cars you can purchase should be expensive & worth putting money towards, so you actually feel rewarded! I like to drive normal most of the time and that means I stop at lights a lot. I don't want to have to be put in an annoying predicament when I'm just trying to enjoy a cruise.
