Honest Bill
The wheel is much quicker and more efficient than the scroll. Just because the scroll is 'classic' doesn't mean it isn't totally flawed. The wheel system is better in every way. They did actually have a similar modifier + direction system in IV. It's just that many people didn't know about it. The wheel also makes it possible to carry all the weapons at the same time instead of having to replace guns in a particular category. RDR made it possible to switch to the category you want in a fraction of a second, in the middle of a fight. Again, here we are, another person using the "Being able to have every type of gun at once", without any proof that that's the case. Tell me, where did you learn that you could have 3 different types of AR's at once? Which preview was it? Just because it was in RDR, doesn't mean it'll be in GTA And no, it's not better in every way I never said that was confirmed or anything like that. I simply said it makes it possible. The only reason they bothered limiting your weapons in the old games was the ridiculous amounts of scrolling that would have been necessary. This eliminates that issue thus making it possible to have all of them at once. Whether or not they will actually allow that is another matter entirely. But i think they will. Why wouldn't they? I think that would be horrible! What is the point of having each character have all the weapons on them at once like some ballistic supergod? It takes away the distinctness of the characters, instead of building a varied arsenal for each of them. Well i think that the variety of attachments would still allow for that, but i do see your point. I don't think i'd call it horrible though. Either way the weapon wheel is still quicker and more convenient for quick switching.
BlackNoise
Not just fidgety and annoying, but who wants to look at a big wheel with pictures of guns on it in the middle of a gunfight? It's the complete opposite of immersion. I can understand this, but you could easily say the same thing about the classic way. Weapons appearing out of nowhere with a picture of a gun in the top right corner is the opposite of immersion. I just think it's much faster. I never see it for more than a split second, unless I want to.
Tyler
The weapon wheel would just be a one-button mechanic, which would free up another button for other use. I think that's the key to this, since I felt like having two buttons dedicated to switching weapons to be quite lame in IV, as well as the slown and overall clunky nature of the weapon switching system found there. I much prefer how fluid the MP3 weapon-switching felt, and would love to see it return in V.
98 in 1
I don't see why people are arguing over which is better. Everyone has their preferences! Arguing is just pointless. Regardless I do think R* should include an option to keep everyone happy This. It's pretty much degraded into "my preference is better than yours and I will not be told otherwise" war. redx165
One issue I have with weapon wheels is sometimes they can be annoying when they don't engage. Especially in a tense situation and you try to select in a hurry and it wont or you choose the wrong gun. The old left to right and vice versa system was almost perfect in this regard. I have no problem with a weapon wheel in GTA V, but OP you better be careful with what you say about people who hold a different view to you. Take this as a pre-warning. How was switching from left to right perfect? It took so long to get a weapon. Plus once in a while you mess up Niko has to put away the gun and get your gun. While the Weapon wheel is fast and easy. Takes a few seconds. I do admit the weapon wheel isn't perfect but it's far superior then the old system.
Gta master 13
The weapon wheel pauses the game while you choose your gun so You don't die
Gigabomber
I don't like the scrolling because you can't shut off the hud and easily tell which weapon you have selected unless you always carry the same weapons. I also think the scrolling is one of the main mechanics that is very antiquated and doesn't appeal to non-hardcore gamers, slightly hurting GTA's approachability.
