I think the IV activities should return

Why do I think that? Because I've already got my stuff. The screenshots and trailers have shown planes, sports cars, dirt bikes, jet skis, underwater swimming, skydiving, and basically lots of things that involve getting visceral thrills through motion or blowing something up.

So now that I have my things, I feel the need to advocate for the IV activities so that friends such as miamivicecity and, um, other guys like him can enjoy their activities too. Some people need some more realistic things to do in the world, I get that, which is why the IV activities should return. I'm already getting what I want, so give them what they want too.

This is actually also why I think fuel should be optional. I would turn it off, but other people can enjoy the hell out of getting gas. Everyone wins.

And that, in the end is what I want. Everyone wins, everyone's satisfied except for a lunatic fringe complaining that the options menu is crowded because the fuel option is there and it should of been mandatory. But screw those guys, everyone should have options.

Hell, I might try mixing them a bit. Skydive right down to a night club entrance, speed through the streets in a fast sports car after a visit to a comedy club, flying a plane after some air hockey, you know, that kind of thing. I think that would be pretty cool. What do you guys think?

Edit: Also I think friends should return but not friend perks so you don't feel forced to hang out with them if you want car bombs or taxis or something. Those should be things you can get if you have enough money anyways.

Yeah. you're right.

"planes, sports cars, dirt bikes, jet skis, underwater swimming, skydiving" dont exist in real life.

I mean, could you imagine going to the beach and seeing people riding jet skis? Or imagine someone swimming underwater! ..and no way we'll ever seen something like 'planes' flying above us in the sky, no way they could invent something to defy gravity like that.

Sorry man, I get your point, but all of those things ARE realistic.

I enjoyed darts, personally. I don't see how the game would benefit from the removal of already established minigames such as this. I'm not saying don't make new ones also, but they should build upon what they've already created. You don't need to take out bowling just so yoga can be in.

There are plenty of new activities to do in GTA V, I see no need unless it was just on top of everything that was added specifically for GTA V.

Eh, some people just like bowling and comedy clubs and darts. I don't see why they should be excluded. I'm already getting the stuff I want, why prevent other people from getting what they want?

I don't think many people want to bowl in GTA V after Roman and that trophy/achievement. The minigame wasn't that great either.

There were barely any activities in IV, next to nothing. Practically "next to nothing" will suffice as bringing back "everything" that IV featured.

I mean, the best things about IV were the graphics and details and we already see all of that in our trailers and screens. Other than bowling and stranger missions (this we know should return in V as dynamic encounters), there's not much else meaningful I recall that was newly introduced in IV.

Oh yeah, a soap opera of a storyline. I guess some guys here appreciate that sort of thing.

I personally loved darts and pool and qubid. They should keep them. Bowling is probably out,it was taken out in EFLC already. Golf and tenis are confirmed and i would like to see some intresting sports like basketball and rockeball in game too.

Agreed. I wouldn't mind the return of bowling, but I won't be heartbroken if it never comes back. On the other hand, I would be devastated if pool and drinking didn't make the cut. Fortunately, not only are golf and tennis confirmed, but there it has been hinted that hunting and fishing will also be in V, which is great. Would be nice if internet dating returned, but I'm not holding my breath.

Other activities I'd like to see from IV are Jacob's drug running missions expanded upon, something like Stevie's cars (where you have to find a car based on a pic), assassination/phonebooth missions, and also the most wanted/vigilante missions for both the LSPD and the Blaine County Sheriff's Department. Also, I liked the flying rats. blush.gif

Nice to see some people embracing all different GTA playstyles. I suppose you could consider golf, tennis and yoga to be the more interesting and refined minigames that replace IV's activities such as bowling, darts, air hockey etc. I don't think R* have eradicated the low key activities, they have just made better ones. Besides if I'm honest, I think bowling will return, half as a joke/nod to IV.

I agree with you in principle. and i'm sure all the more... 'mundane' style of activities will still be included. In fact they already confirmed a bunch of mini-games such as tennis and golf, and they said they would be a bit 'deeper.'

I also think those things will generally improve the game. Hey if i get bored of doing liquor store robberies and dirt-bike racing down mountains etc, i might well go on a celebrity tour bus just for a laugh, and to see the funny things that will unfold.

Friends/dating system would be perfectly fine too as long as they wait for me to call them and don't phone me up to whinge about me not spending enough time with them.

Most of the IV features would work perfectly fine to contrast all the more exciting activities.

Im positive that most of the minigames no matter how dull they seem, they would be best online if people could just meet up at places to play pool, or bowling, tennis, golf ect, and play against each other. NO LOBBY or anything, just a simple extra in freeroam.

This.

I would love to play a couple holes of golf with my friends, and then beat them to death with my club when I inevitably lose.

That would be great instead of everyone killing each other, make FreeRoam more enjoyable

But you can't please all the people all the time. People have their own things that they personally want in the game and it would be impossible to cater to everyone's taste.

The problem with the options thing is where do you draw the line? Some people want fuel, some people want manual transmission and even road laws, people want difficulty settings, others even want to be able to toggle guns, blood, swearing and killing. Some people want dismemberment and extreme gore. Out of all the different things people have been clamoring for which do they decide to include as an option? It needs focus otherwise it would become a mess.

Trying to have all these options in a menu makes the game lose direction and no longer becomes the game Rockstar North were wanting to create. With all of the people's wants for the game the way they would filter them would be based on if they thought it benefited the game, in which case, why would they then only make them an option in a menu?

There's a difference between an optional feature and having options in a menu.

Take fuel for example. Rather than having a binary yes/no option, wouldn't it make more sense to have it so if you drive into a fuel station and get out your car, it triggers an animation or event that simulates refueling your car without any affect on the rest of the driving. People that don't want fuel don't have to do it, but the people that like the role-playing aspect of it still have that option to go and do that, just like with the car wash in IV.

I think transmissions, traffic laws and fuel should be menu option features. Animation on fuel won't help, some people just want to run out. They will turn it on, and I will play my game the way I want and we get along fine.

As for gore, meh, a few better wounds here and people reacting the right way when shot in the right body part would be fine.

Sure, it won't please EVERYONE. I even mentioned that in the OP. But when it pleases most people, that's what matters.

I guess this is where we differ. I'd rather Rockstar just focus on the game they want to make, rather than trying to pander to all the different wishes of the fans. The same with any creative medium.

Whilst we like to think that Rockstar listened to us with regards to property and customisation we really don't know, I'm pretty sure all of these big features some of which wouldn't be simple to implement would have been planned from the start and not just thrown in at last minute.

As to your statement about gore, you've already dismissed it yourself as 'meh' and stated what you think would suffice. So already you've made a conscious decision not to include gore as an option. So you're already editing what should be optional based on your own wants. Which is the point I was trying to make. If they're going to have all of these on/off options based on people's wants, who decides which make it and which don't? what criteria do they follow? I'm going to make the assumption they'd pick them based on what would fit in the game and matches the direction they want to take the game, in which case, why even make it an option if that's the direction they already wanted?

Far from "next to nothing".

Rockstar's dev comes to forum and reads this thread.

Dev: "Oh. Another thread. Guy wants activities from IV"

Dan Houser: "What do we do?"

Dev: "Delay the game for 4 more months to put the activities in the game"

Dan Houser: "Sure"

This. Plus golf though, just not a small driving range, but a huge golf club (which is already confirmed, more or less.)

I want to double the money I just stole from an old lady at the poker table, and it better be texas hold em like in RDR.

And darts! GTA IV taught me the rules of darts when I tried to impress those Irish pricks.

Pretty much this

People overreact way too much abou IVs friend system and I really want it and the activities to return, bowling pool air hockey and darts were FUN

The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing.

God these posts are annoying. I got the same bullsh*t when I asked about character progression and opportunities for investments. Well dammit, I'm getting what I asked for in GTA V tounge.gif

I'm not a HUGE fan of GTA4's activities BUT, I'd be thrilled to have them in there if the devs can make it work. Why not? More options = better.

There's no such thing as too much!

I'm not asking for these activities for my sake, I'm asking for them for other people's sake.

Plus, let's just use this logic in other places shall we? If you want planes, go play SA. If you want guns, go play call of duty. If you want cars, play gran turismo, and so on and so forth.

See how that moves the discussion NOWHERE?

While i see your point to an extent. I'd err on the side of caution if i were Rockstar. That is to say it's all very well making the game you want to make, but you also want ideally to make the game people want to play.

There are certain features that people want, that will have a negative impact on many people's gameplay. There's no real reason not to make those optional. A lot of the people who want fuel (just as an example) aren't just about wanting to see a re-fuelling animation, which as you rightly pointed out, wouldn't really impact anyone. For a lot of these people it's all about the possibility to run out of fuel.

Personally i don't want to run out of fuel, so it's all very well for me to say 'well f*ck those people' but would it really detract from anybody's experience to have that be an option in the menu? This is hardly going to impact the direction of the game, and would probably take a talented coder about 5 minutes to add (yes i pulled that out of my arse, but i'm sure you appreciate this isn't a difficult thing to implement)

I don't really see a great deal of difference between optional features, and options in the menu, in fact i'd argue they're exactly the same. Rockstar obviously believe that taking Michael to play golf for example, would add to the game, but they still give you the option to ignore it. Not really much different from turning things on or off in a menu when you really consider it.

While i see that it would be a bit silly to have every single thing in the game be an option you could toggle on or off in the menu, there are some features that are widely wished for but would obviously be divisive or contentious features to a lot of fans because they have an impact on your game whether you like them or not. Why not make those things optional? Where's the harm in it really? besides making an extra tab in the menu screen, which wouldn't bother anybody at all at any point. If you wanted to ignore it and get what Rockstar considered to be the optimal experience, just play the game as it is, and if someone else wants to tailor the experince to their specific tastes then they can do that.
