chicVenusBaby
Anebadeee hav a rough assumption if travelin by a vehical of how long will it take from one(1) end of the map to the other end? i like to hav a clear mental vision n visualize it
RichyB
This has less to do with the size of the map and more to do with the distribution of roads throughout it. It's an entirely irrelevent question. Also what do you mean by vehicle? Plane? Ship? Car?

d3ex2
Well, it takes around ~15 minutes to travel around Redemption's map on a horse. V's land mass is 3.5x Redemption so I guess, on a horse, it will take just over 50 minutes non stop riding to get around V's land area. Now, we will of course be driving cars and not riding horses so it won't take as long as that. I'd say 30-40 minutes but that's just a complete guess. When I travelled around Redemptions map 15 minutes felt like forever. I'm more than happy with 40 minutes.

That sounds way too large (unless they're talking about 40 game minutes but that will be too small ) Edited May 7, 2013 by Werebot85

GKP
Those IDIOTS who say that they cant tell didn't think very hard about it. GTAV land mass is approx 21/22 sq miles, or arounf 4. by 4.6 miles in size approx Work it out time over distance.....christ. It will take less than a minute in a jet thats for sure. Sirpepperoni
San Andreas took half an hour to drive around, my guess is roughly an hour ( depending on road distribution as stated already)

Bertanius
We wouldn't know how long, or how exactly you would want us to across the map. Is it corner to corner in a straight line? Or only by taking roads? How fast will we be travelling too? Remember that there's a lot of mountains, so going corner to corner makes no sense in a vehicle. Once the game is out, I'm sure lots of users will add up the time it takes for them to get from one side to the other using standard methods, and going at similar speeds. milkmansun
If you can calculate like this you can get answer for your question.. How long it will take for you to travel from one end to other end in GTA 4. How many GTA 4 maps it will take to cover GTA V map... Then we can find i guess.... philley
Guys, keep in mind: R* said it is BIGGER than IV, RDR + SA combined!!! They did not say it is as big as those 3 maps combined, it will be bigger!!! So we really dont no the real size until we play the game!

dorsku
Okay so lets say that map is rectangle with 6mi * 5mi = 30sq.mi. (3.5 x RDR size is about that much). Then the diagonal is 7.8mi= (c^2= 5^2+6^2) So if we are driving through the map from NW to SE (diagonal) and the average speed is 100mp/h regardless of roads and curves, the trip will take t=s/v = 7.8/100 = 0.078h = 4min40sec. So obviously when you're driving that distance with roads, curves, other traffic and slower speed, i'd say its gonna take about 20-25 minutes. That's a lot of time. If we go around the map the trip will be 6mi*2 + 5mi*2 = 22miles, then it takes 13.2minutes when driving full speed and without any obstacles or curves. That'd be at least one hour when driving in normal conditions.
Pegerino
You can switch between 3 characters to quickly go to your destination. if GTA V is 3.5x the size of RDR then it would take roughly about 20mins by car, 2mins by plane
Ben73
40 mins really? No way. I just did some test in GTA SA Yellow Bell golf course - LSX took me 2:28 Playa Del Seville beach, East LS - Ocean Flats Beach, West SF took me 4:42. Most direct route using LS Surface street, no freeways Angel Pine safe house - K.A.C.C Military Fuels, North East LV took me 5:49 Via the most direct route including the double switchback in Flint County So I reckon GTA V will take anywhere from 15 - 20 minutes to cross in a car. Max
This topic has some interesting calculations based on what we've been told about the map size. I suggest you look in here.

matt_jada
How long is a piece of string? Jeez If you were to drive at a normal speed, stooping at lights etc, I'd estimate about 25 - 40 mins depending on where your travelling to and area your driving through. If you were to start in LS stopping at lights etc heading north, 40 mins eadily I reckon. But we will never know.... Not yet anyway lol
gta5freemode4eva
I'm adding my 2 cents. There is no way it'll take 40 minutes to cross. I wish it was that big, but no way. I'm sticking with with GI originally said which was it takes 15 minutes from mid Los Santos to the edge of the map (pretty sure it was this that they said). That takes into account bends in the road etc I think. 'As the crow flies' (the shortest distance) I'm guessing 10 mintues and then there is the speed to take into account. If it were a straight road and we drove at the max game speed I'd guess around 6-7 minutes. That may not sound much but its still a heck of a distance. I'm just looking forward to exploring every inch of the game. Its gonna be insanely good
