Canes21
Read Dead is around 7 square miles of playable area, GA IV is around 3-4. My source is here, http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=555170

skillz7855
RDR is bigger not by a lot tho
poppacap10
impossible thats kinda too big. You need to play Red Dead Redemption. It is THAT big.
Racecarlock
Read Dead is around 7 square miles of playable area, GA IV is around 3-4. My source is here, http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=555170 So 3.5 times 7 is 24.5 . So that means that GTA V is 6 times bigger than GTA IV. Choco Taco
The playable area of RDR is less than 6 square miles. A rectangle around the islands of GTA IV is about 6 and a half square miles.

Dotseoem
The map will basically be 112% of San Andreas.
JonRenemy
This stuff does my f*cking tits in. Noone seems to have a concrete grasp on measurements, or even what any of the previous games are in terms of size. Even though we live in the age of Google and, COMMON SENSE. This isn't a dig at the original poster, it's just a dig at the amount of nonsense replies these threads get.
pariah87
Can't wait to play this f*cking game. Nice long ass drive through the country and mountains in my suped up car!
JStarr31
they say that Los Santos is only 1/10th of the whole map. 1/10 is 10%. IMO LS is atleast 7sq.mi. IMO. 7 is 10% of 70 Entire map 70sq mi???? That doesn't sound right... even at 1/8 that would require 50-55sq mi.... So ok, let's say LS is 6sq mi... thats 60sq mi?? 5sq mi??? 4sq mi??? IMO thats too small The forums say entire map is 30-35sq mi at best. So is LS truly 3-3.5sq. mi.??? I think that 1/10th things PR talk... nothing adds up
Shaunr
The map 3.5 times the size of Red Dead Redemption in terms of playable area above ground. -gtav.net/ 2 IV=1 RDR V=3.5 RDR 2x3.5 =V V= 7 IV It's not going to be any less than 7 GTA 4's

I think that 1/10th things PR talk... nothing adds up I think the city of Los Santos is around 3 sq m and the total map area including water is 30 sq m. That would fit with the estimate of 1/10th of the total map some previews said. And if the total land area was 21 sq m of that 30 total, it would fit nicely with the 3.5x RDR quote and also the 5x if include water quote. 3.5 x 6 = 21 5 x 6 =

Been playing IV recently and that is just wow. Oh and to think that is only the land mass not including water!
Dick Justice
I believe the previews said it was roughly 3.5 times the size of Red Dead, and 5 times the size if you included the underwater area.
YoungChrist
impossible thats kinda too big. You really haven't played RDR? Go pick that sh*t up, man. Your life ain't complete yet yeah hes missing out, amazing narrative, great gameplay. Its a great game to play if you like GTA's mechanics and have gotten tired of how fast paced GTA IV is. Cant wait to the next Red Dead.
wingbert69
IV land area = 8,35117192km² SA land area= 28,688819km² RDR= 13,1906km² all together= 50,23059092km² that means 31,4mi² -->GTA IV fits 6 times If we say 3,5 times RDR 3,5*13,1906km²=46,1671km² that means 28,86mi² -->GTA IV fits 5,53 times (without underwater, only land area!) the numbers are from the mapping thread. You must search for the forum member F4t4l1ty and you will find accurate numbers. Here is the map I have made. Just to imagine how big the map will be compared to Liberty City

wingbert69
I don´t think so. For me the map has the perfect size. I believe the advantage of the 3 prot. is that when you are for example at northern part of the map and want to be in LS you can switch.

zombie elvis
Damn for ages I'd been thinking SA was 4000 meters across but I'd mis-remembered it, it's 6000x6000.
wingbert69
That are the 2 Options One Statement GTAV= SA + GTA IV + RDR = 31,4mi² Second Statement GTAV= 3,5 * RDR = 28,86mi²

I believe the advantage of the 3 prot. is that when you are for example at northern part of the map and want to be in LS you can switch. Here is my question, I never played RDR.. But is it enough for 3? traveling by horse is much slower than by motors.. Here if we calculated for each protag then each get 1 RDR map... as we will be traveling by motors. and not horses we can cover each area easily right? I really wish they made the land 5 times bigger than RDR and 2 times the ocean.. we need to see gameplay to figure out wat GTA V looks like....
