epicluca
I couldn't make an overly long title but what i'm saying is we've seen that there's gonna be desert and hunting (RDR) and also Michael has a bullet time sort of skill (MP3) not to mention car models from IV, but what other R* games do you think GTA V has borrowed from? Ash_735
Well the Vehicle stuff is suppose to borrow heavily from Midnight Club LA, Gunplay is obviously inspired by their work on Max Payne 3, as well as wounds, etc, the Map Zoom Switch stuff appears borrowed from Driver SF, instead here it's for characters instead of vehicle Swapping (although it was used in a similar fashion in the movie CRANK to transition scenes). chop chop
No one. Rockstar Games is unique. SR1 was the first game to let you hear the radio from standing outside the car. I reckon rockstar took that from them in GTA 4. SR1 came out 2006

Everything I've written had been inspired by something else, be it a game, book, movie, song, or summat. R* is the same way. All artists are. Nothing today is original. That's not an insult. GTA V was in development long before 2011 when that game came out so they had the idea of multiple characters and switchting by zooming out and in before Driver: SF was released. Meezarawcks
Well I don't agree with the term "borrowed". Borrowing means to say that R* never owned the things they are using in the game. R* own all the assets being used to develop a lot of the features in GTAV. For some reason, and call me a fan boy if you like cause I wear that title with pride, R* don't need to "borrow" from anyone.

Like I said, ever seen the movie CRANK (2006)? That's set in LA and features map zooming to change scenes, literally like it's been explained in GTA V, it zooms out from the main character to a sky view of the LA Map before shifting and zooming back in to a new location where the main character arrives. I am a sandbox fan and have played mostly all of them. From Saints Row to Assassins Creed, and intend on playing Watch Dogs, but no one pulls off the open world like R*. jamieleng
No one. Rockstar Games is unique. As much as I worship R*, they have copied ideas from many games. There's absolutely nothing wrong in that, as long as you improve on what you have borrowed. Amazingly, not only does R* do this but they manage to make all these ideas work together seamlessly & feel like they are all part of the same world (especially the physics). Creating a bespoke engine at the start of this console generation & integrating Euphoria animation from its inception, was the best thing R* could've done. This engine will see them in good stead come next generation. I was playing MP3 last night & just decided to enable all cheats & after killing every enemy in each area, I decided to shoot up all the scenery. Almost nothing is nailed down, nearly every item & asset in the environment is destructible, even things that you'd probably never hit in normal gameplay. Diving in slow motion through a plate glass window never gets old. Everything about that game screams next-gen.

R* takes familiar tropes/mechanics and "remixes" them in their own unique way. It aint about how bug your stick is, it's how you use it--and R* knows how to use it REALLY well.
