Audiophile
Played for a couple of hours now. I have to say my initial impressions are that the game, while you will miss a lot of features from Sims 3, is quite fun. I think it's a good first step and a good foundation for expansions to build upon. I can confirm that the game suffers from no lag or stuttering issues. Have not crashed once or experienced any game-breaking glitches. It's quite fun to have tasks at home outside of your sims careers or studies. I am level 9 of the tech career (entrepreneur branch) and about to reach level 9 with another sim, of the culinary career (chef branch). The UI takes some getting used to but it is not a bad thing. The new camera controls as well made me go WTF when I first launched. But I simply went into settings and changed it to have the same control controls as Sims 3. Loading screens are not that bad, at least for me. The game loads up waaaaay quicker than Sims 3 (base game) and going to a new lot only takes a few seconds. We will see how this evolves with each expansion. The new build mode is quite fun and the gallery is one of my favourite new features. I enjoy just going into it, picking out a new house and plopping it down when I don't feel like building. You will feel the loss of some features from Sims 3 but it's still a fun game. Do keep an eye on Let's Play or YT reviews but I think the game is decent fun. If anyone has any questions, ask. I will do my best to answer, if I can. Audiophile
I would have to say most of the things the expansions add. The base game is just that, the base game. Going to that from a fully expanded game will obviously mean a lot of things are missing. I also miss little things like family trees, they're very simple but useful tools while playing through the generations. Toddlers, I never thought I would but it seems kind of odd to just have a baby age up to a child. They did say they plan to add them back in, whether this will be in a patch or expansion, we'll see. Likely an expansion as they did say they plan to add in pools, too. Pools would make sense to come in with a patch unless they get really greedy/plan to introduce it in a seasons or vacation themed EP. It's fun building up skills though and seeing new meaningful interactions unlock. For example, my sim in the tech career now has a level 10 programming skill. I can create mobile apps, mod games, create plug-ins, etc. Once you reach level 10, you can create video games. You get royalties each day for these. To reach level 10 of the tech career (entrepreneur brach) I have to max out my programming skill and earn 2k in video game royalties. I am sure a lot of the things I miss from TS3 will eventually be added in. Just the way it is. I am just happy it runs well. EDIT: Oh another gripe is the amount of lots available. Yes, we can jump between the two towns but it's like....Y U no make more lots available in them? A lot of them are filled with pre-loaded families and the rest, unless you turn off an option in the settings will get populated with generated sims. I don't want this because once the children in my family age up, I want them to move out....I don't want to have an entire family living together. You feel me? Oh and I miss "normal" careers. It's kind of lulzy that there is no medical, law enforcement, business, etc. careers. Expansion, EA? Geralt of Rivia
If I remember right, they said they know what their fans want, and they want to please them. I don't think they actually said they plan on adding pools and toddlers and such, especially since they said themselves that the engine is the reason there's no pools or basements. Audiophile
They did say it, some of their "SimGuru's" on Twitter responded that they could not get it into the game at launch, for the reasons you stated but that they are working on introducing these features. I recall that but I don't have a source at the moment. Time will tell. Geralt of Rivia
God help them if they don't include it as a free patch. Also, I hope they don't return toddlers. I really do. I hate those little f*ckers. Serves no purpose whatsoever. Yes, I know, it's a life simulator, but...Just no lol.
Audiophile
Yeah I wasn't a fan of them either but honestly it seems a little odd now to just have them go from a small baby to a child. If they do return them, hopefully make them more low maintenance. That was the problem in TS3, I think, you ended up having to put all your time into them. Much like real life. Geralt of Rivia
Yes, toddlers required all the attention. All of it. Do you think the game is worth $60? Or should I wait for more videos to come out, like TotalBiscuit's?
Audiophile
I honestly do not want to tell you whether or not it is. To me, it is because I have been a fan of this series since the first one and everything I expected from it; I got. I had no problem dishing out $60 for this game because I know I want it in my collection and it's a game I enjoy. What are you looking for exactly in this game? If you're a fan of the series and see yourself buying expansions for it, I suggest you get it and enjoy the base game for what it is. Mods will eventually come, expansions too. If you're unsure, wait for Let's Play's. I think some people are already putting those out and I know people are streaming the game on Twitch since Korea has had it out for several hours now. In fact, I searched for you The Sims Supply already has a Let's Play out. This guy has been playing Sims for quite some time. He's one of the few Let's Play youtubers I am subbed to. He has some great Sims and GTA V let's plays. Geralt of Rivia
Thanks. I do love the Sims, so I will probably get it. Just gonna wait for TB's video. It'll make me feel better about spending $60 out of the remaining balance I have after college textbooks destroyed my bank account. CantThinkOfOne2013
I like The Sims, but I only really play to build stuff, I might wait for at lest a pool expansion pack (it wouldn't surprise me if EA released a pack simply called The Sims 4: Pools) and just stick with Sims 3 for now. El Dildo
If anyone has any questions, ask. I will do my best to answer, if I can. yeah so, Sims 4 looks good. and it looks like it plays good. but the base-Sim games always do. you know what I mean? the premium service scares me. the inevitable debauchery of expansions and Stuff packs scares me. it doesn't seem different enough from TS3 to justify a whole new game. does it?? Audiophile
So I lol'd. First real "bug" that pisses me off. At least, I am hoping it's a bug. Had two sims get married. Had a wedding party and all that sh*t. Party ends, guests go home. Guess who also goes home? The bride. Her name didn't change to my sims last name either. Lol'd. Had to call her up and manually ask her to move in with me. Last name still didn't change. No option to do that, no request asking me if I'd like to. Another gripe I have: you know how in Sims 3 you could just select which sims you'd like to move to a new house? Yeah, no. In Sims 4, you have to exit to map view and then do this whole "split household" thing to select which ones and then plop them down in a house. If you move via the phone, it moves the entire household. It's doable but it's little things like this that build up. I also noticed that with the whole lack of family tree and "family" category in the relationships tab, things don't feel as "in-depth". I liked that in Sims 3, I could see my entire family in one category of the relationships tab, that there were in-laws, etc. That when a sim's child got married, they got a mood let for it. sh*t like that, it made it feel more in-depth. Here, I moved an young adult child out. Had him get married. Nothing. What were the emotions for? Just to be there? Because at this point, it feels that Sims 3 had more depth and emotion to it. I still enjoy the game and think it's worth getting, expansions will add to it but if you absolutely dislike having to deal with the above, maybe hold off until a few patches or the first expansion. I am sure TS2 and TS3 felt like this when they only had the base game out, have to be fair. TS3 is what it is today, albeit a stuttery mess, after 5 years of patches, stuff packs and expansions. You just have a relationships tab and in it, it has sh*t like "lel friend", "lel spouse", "lel son", "lel daughter", etc. A family tree is such a simple feature yet useful. But it's not in. Quiet Lady
I ended up just buying TS2 again. I had a friend let me play her copy of the game and just wasn't impressed. A lot of the features from TS2 and TS3 that I enjoyed are missing. In my opinion, it isn't worth $60. If you're considering buying it, i'd recommend watching a let's play before making a purchase and wasting money.

I wouldn't say appealing to more people and actually making the game playable is stupid. And it's not like they added nothing. The people they gained that are able to play the game covers the loss they get from people not going to buy it. That's the business motto going into that decision.
