Army bases but no Army?

They might still come at 5 stars. Or if you fly over no fly zone or whatever. I'm sure they'll be there.

People are mistaking this 1 star as a lesser difficulty, to me this just means that the lower stars will be actually harder, i think Rockstar will keep the proportion of difficulty even with one star less.

Rockstar have probably scaled the difficulty with the one star deficit accordingly.

I think the wanted level is basically 1-5 being the old 2-6 stars (getting rid of the 1 star difficulty). I think this because the options of evading police are a bit more flexible this time around too, so it would be way too easy on the old petty "1 star".

 

So 1 star = 2 stars in old GTA's. I think they'll be tougher.

Im curious as to why they listed 'Army Bases' in the list of general land types we will see this early in the previews. Its almost like army bases or just the army in general will play a huge roll in this game.

I think they're maybe trying to scale the whole system better. Lets face it, in IV there was barely any difference between all of the star ratings, just a slightly bigger radius and on higher settings NOoSE/FIB would get involved - you could compress that entire system down into three ratings really.

Hopefully they've learnt this and decided to make each star rating feel different and actually give a challenge.

The army could still come in on 5 stars and I hope that this will be the case.

 

1 stars - a few cops

2 stars - Lots of cops, shoot first ask questions later

3 stars - NOoSe

4 stars - FIB

5 stars - Army and the others above

 

Though I get the feeling we may be disappointed on this front and the OP could end up being correct. Still we can hope, right?

Well, it hasn't been confirmed so it could be happening at the fifth star, since there are more than one military base, I would doubt that there is no army.

If not, just stroll into the Army base and start lighting the place up. I'm sure they won't appreciate that.

It just means the military will be deployed at 5 stars which is now the most you can get. They seem to have condensed it down. Maybe it was just me but sometimes I found it took much longer to get 6 stars. You can easily get 3 stars and push it a bit further you'll get 4 and 5 but you need to go absolutely crazy to get 6. It will now be easier to get the army after you. Maybe one character is easier to get more stars for. For example if you're Franklin then you might end up with 3 or 4 stars but if you're Trevor then it will be 5 because Trevor was trained by the military so when he goes crazy they send out stronger forces. Just an idea.

Just thought about going on random rampages, holding down a rooftop from the cops/army, with all three characters. Switching between them to keep the feds at bay. Seems fun.

I don't know the anglo-american law and legal system this good. Isn't it illegal to use the US army for purposes that are dedicated for the law enforcement?

 

If so I wouldn't like to see the army coming after me with 5 stars. FBI is enough. Of course the army would try to take you down if you break into their bases.

I am in the U.S. Army in real life. It is highly unlikely that the National Guard will come after you. This is GTA though, not real life. It takes an Army to take me down in GTA anyways.

Actually, getting rid of 1 star isn't that bad. In previous games sequence was like this:

1 star- cops try to arrest you

2 stars- cops will shoot you

3 stars- helicopter and roadblocks ( also CIA sort of guys with cheeaths in vice city)

4 stars- SWAT

5 stars- FIB

6 stars- army

 

And in GTA IV it was like:

1 star- cops will try to arrest you

2 stars- cops will shoot you, go on active pursuit and dispatch reinforcements

3 stars- helicopter, roadblocks and NOOSE patrols

4 stars- NOOSE helicopter and SWAT teams, FIB

5 stars- 2 helicopters, cops will shoot from the car, no new units

6 stars- ???, almost nothing changes

 

So it's easy to compress everything into 5 stars like:

1 star- cops try to arrest you

2 stars- cops start shooting

3 stars- helicopters, roadblocks, spike strips

4 stars- NOOSE QRF teams, occasional FIB teams

5 stars- army
