weapnsdealer
As seen below in the screenshots, there will security and CCTV cameras littered throughout Los Santos on building corners, store fronts, and even inside of stores. So far, we can all deduce that you will be able to shoot and or cut off the power to cameras before and during heists to provide an edge over the cops and also be able to complete a heist in a stealthy manner. So would we have to shoot the cameras individually or is there a button we have to press to disarm them, same as the alarms in the store? But what came to mind is that the cameras have a different role outside of missions. I think the security cameras will be the new "100 hidden items." There were drugs in GTA 3, statues in Vice City, and Horse Shoes, tags and pictures to take in SA. I believe that the cameras around Los Santos will all have to be shot or destroyed in some manner. But thats not all. I think there will be a bonus to each one you get rid of. I think everytime you get rid of a camera, it will delay police response time by a few seconds, letting you escape the scene without anyone following you. That will help you out throughout the free roam and during the campaign. Packages have never given you a reward like that, unless you get all of them. You might have someone call the cops on you if you shoot at it, but it was the same thing in GTA IV with those pesky pidgeons. You would stand on the sidewalk, sniper a pidgeon 5 stories up on a building and someone would call the cops. But now, because of the all new "design your own heist the way you want" mechanic, you can also traverse your planned escape route and eliminate all camera on the street, making your escape just a little bit easier, as long as you are not in-line-of-sight of the cops. This will prompt even more than the die hard fans and gamers to shoot at them and also get you just a little bit closer 100% completion, if you are so inclined. But also, I think they are going back to the old SA items system where there are different objects on each island, but this time it will be more like each landscape of the map (Los Santos, Blaine county, and the water). In the water it has already been confirmed that you can go looking for treasure and hidden items in the sea, rivers and lakes. There will probably be 50 or so of these scattered every where. And each of these treasures that you find will give you different amounts of money, depending on difficulty of finding it and size of the visible treasure. In Far Cry 3 there were hundreds of objects to find and collect around the map. And when you would find X amount of X item, you could unlock a syringe power up, weapon, and even get some money. The reward for being adventurous and keeping a look out for things in that game were great. But GTA has never really rewarded you for looking around for stuff until you get everything. And even then, it was just max ammo and stuff. There might be a 3rd collectible item/activity like a list of animals to hunt and kill in certain ways like RDR, or looking for golden guns like in MP3. Also, maybe you want most/all of a certain characters money to come from only finding secret treasure. Now you can do that, too. And because there have already been more ladders shown in artwork, screenshots and the trailers for GTAV than there were in GTA IV's entire map had (almost), there will be easier ways to explore the urban environment than trying for minutes on end to jump on a fire escape and failing, or trying to jump a gap between two building to get to a better vantage point and falling 10 stories. TL;DR I think that the way you look for collectibles and the way it changes gameplay and the way it rewards you will be drastically overhauled and will reward players for exploring and going after the small things. Dope_0110
This is a good assumption. While I don't think they'll have any important role in normal gameplay and may only be functional during some missions like heists, having them as collectibles would make sense and it would be a good, non intrusive way of putting collectibles in the game. TonyResta
Camera collectibles (having to shoot them) is a brilliant idea, wouldn't mind that at all!

Played that game ages ago, can't really remember that feature but yeah, if Rockstar has already implemented something like this in the past, there might be more of a possibility of them doing it again. weapnsdealer
What other possible ideas are there for collectible items? GTA has never repeated the same object for collectibles. What would be a "natural" object laying around Los Santos for you to find?

Yeah, the hidden packages in CTW were the security cameras you had to disable.

Braindawg
If you're gonna have to shoot them to "collect" them it'd be a stupid mechanism just like in IV. The idea that you have to pop a collectible, attract attention and waste ammo to get it was really dumb in IV. I reeeeeally home they wont make the same mistake twice. Quackerz Gamerz
Seems quite good, but what about out in the countryside? In the cities it should be cameras like the OP said, but for countryside I'd think it would be hidden drug packages or something.

GTA 360
Seems quite good, but what about out in the countryside? In the cities it should be cameras like the OP said, but for countryside I'd think it would be hidden drug packages or something. They give you a metal detector/you go and buy one, and you have to find metal underground, and dig for it. Don't worry though, you get a vague map on the internet that you can look at with your phone. Then, you can dig it up once you find it, pop it in your car/van and take it to the antiques store and make some money.
Tracksuit Hitman
I don't think you should get any kind of scoring system for taking out CCTV cameras as people are pointing out. CCTV cameras should be used for a realistic system where police will try and find you later on if they lost you rather than how in previous instalments of the series the police would stop chasing the player after they got out of a certain area. aka geobst
