What lesson and message do you think V will try to convey?

It is obviously about the poor vs. the rich. Having money doesn't necessarily mean having happiness and that money is a thing that you can't be blind with but it is always the goal in mind.

Crime is good. That is what GTA in general has taught me.

The downfall of the econemy and growth of ''the criminal econemy'', and what money does to people. Expect a betrayal or two in the story.

That GTA is still fundamentally GTA on the inside. That flying planes is better than matching cigarette colors. That jetskis are way more fun than prison.

But the most important lesson I think it's trying to teach us is that realism is an acceptable sacrifice if it means I get to throw old ladies into jet turbines.

"The pursuit of the almighty dollar". I'm pretty sure rockstar said that when the game was first announced.

Money/Heists. I'm pretty sure that was established around the first preview.

Capitalism is evil.

Marxism ALL THE WAY!

lol it seems like all gta games are kinda like that. well they highlight and sort of ridicule the excesses of capitalism and point out how its either dumb (in game banter and ads) or leads to tragedy.

crime pays... or does it?

Biracial criminal activity is far more secure and profitable.

IMO. If I was building a team; it would have Redneck enforcers, black gangbangers for lookouts and Hispanic technicians for mechanical support.

Well, I think GTAIV's main theme is about vengeance and the consequences that come with pursuing it. It also asks us the question whether or not revenge is truly satisfying and worth the consequences. Other themes obviously include hypocrisy, corruption, betrayal, American Dream, family, consumerism, commercialism etc etc, which are all themes that are bound to be present in GTAV as well, however I feel like IV's main theme was certainly revenge.

By the looks of it, GTAV's main theme is: Man vs Himself. The message may be that despite our riches and success, we may never be happy unless we are surrounded by people we love. That greed and our desire for fancy useless items corrupts our minds and forces us to neglect the truly satisfying things we crave, like family, friends, and love. That having wealth and fancy things won't necessarily win you family, friends, or love.

Huh? How did IV teach you that crime ruins your life? By the end of the game niko had millions of dollars, and if you did the alternate ending, then he got the girl, and that annoying ass bastard roman died (who mind you, caused most of nikos problems). If anything, that game taught you the American Dream is a bullsh*t scam that only works out for a handful of people who scam their way to the top, and that crime is pretty much the only way to make any real money.

I dont think V will be any different than that honestly. Thats sorta what all these stories boil down to. Some criminal on the bottom, killing and stealing his way to the top.

I don't see that as the alternate ending, personally. I think that was the way the narrative was intended to end for a satisfying closure to Niko's epic.

I picked that ending simply because I believe Niko would live a happier life with Kate. I believe there's a good chance for a serious relationship to flourish between the two after the games finale, and so the possibility that Niko could start over, marry and have his own children just seems more intriguing than Niko living alone and depressed with Roman. Niko seems more likely to get out of that violent life with Kate. With Kate dead and Roman around, Niko would most likely remain in the criminal underworld, a sad, lonely and depressed man. It's sad, but I believe for the violence to stop and Niko to live a happier life in the long run, Roman had to die.

Either way, that ending is extremely ironic and even depressing. In a way it may actually show that no matter what happens, revenge is a motherf*cker.

But I agree 100% with the OP's assertion that GTAIV goes to show crime can ruin your life. Niko may be a wealthy man by the end of the narrative, however he loses family/friends due to his criminal ventures. It's like I said above, and I definitely believe Rockstar will explore this in GTAV, that even if you have wealth and fancy things, the real thing that people want and need (aside from obvious survival needs) boils down to love/friends/family; that's certainly something Niko valued. Niko's sheer greed, corruption, drive for vengeance and hypocrisy however seemed to plague his vices and cloud his judgement, and... well, the rest is history.

Similar to IV's and RDR, I would guess: You can't erase your past, but you can try (unsuccessfully) to set things aright. And blah blah blah.

I think the duality between Michael and Trevor will play core, their relationship and how they reflect on one another.

AND JUST FOR FUN:

And in the end you find out that Michael and Trevor are actually the same person, thus explaining why Franklin always looks so puzzled; he's alarmed at Michael's vastly alternating personality:

Everything has a message/lesson.

The message/lesson doesn't have to be positive, however.

Once a criminal, ALWAYS a criminal. In Michael's case, A ROBBER.

Oh come on. Another f*cking "Possessions are shallow" message? No, not this time. I am tired of the f*cking game making me feel guilty for MURDERING PIXELS!!!
