Confused on how the story works

So i'm sort of confused on how the story works in this game. Does the whole game revolve around preparing for and conducting heists? Does each character have their own separate story arcs and missions outside of the whole heist story?

If anyone can clarify on how the story works it would really be appreciated

Each character probably has 25 or 20 missions + some side missions, but we'll see how the story goes.

Well, if I had to guess, which I am, I would say it's a combination of the three working together but also having their own individual missions. The heists will obviously involve all three though, because of the prep work that has to be done. But that doesn't mean every mission will involve all three characters, because all three have their own lives and things that don't necessarily involve the other two. I.E. Trevor with drugs/war with the Lost, Franklin with his ghetto friends, and Michael with his family.

The info so far says their three stories are overarching.. meaning that the three of them each have a story for themselves, and they also have their joint story that revolves around a couple of the great heists. And probably in order to complete the whole story (the heists) it will be required to complete a certain number of their individual missions, or maybe not. That's how I see it from the available info.

I'm thinking of GTA IV and EFLC story arcs all rolled into one game. They seem to have their own individual stories from what we've seen so far, yet they're much more connected to each other than Niko, Johnny and Luis story arcs, so I'm guessing somewhere along those lines.

I think in the beginning each character will be introduced with their own separate tutorial like missions until they meet together. Then the heist missions begins. Throughout the story each character will probably have their own missions here and there that are bot related to the story heists. In the end everything that conflicted each character (ex. Micheal's family issues/past coming back to haunt him, Trevor's drug/biker gang issues, and Franklin's gang related story) will wrap up in the end. This is just my guess.
