I often wonder how they can spend so much to develop this game, and STILL turn a profit.

It's going to be worth it.

$60 in the US (I think) and £40-45 in the UK.

Because their games are awesome. Development cost of GTA IV was around $100 mio and it surpassed $500 mio in the first week if I am not wrong. Not to mention the MS deal gave them another $30 mio.

Same price as any other game.

This although in the UK at least quite a few places have hiked the price to £45 as opposed to £40 but it's still possible to get it for £40($60) like any other game.

GTAIV has sold over 25 million copies. Even if they only made $10 profit per copy that's a quarter-billion dollars.

I don't think you understand just how big GTA is. It's world famous video game that it would be hard to find anyone who hasn't heard of it. Loads of people who don't even game will recognise GRAND THEFT AUTO.

When retailers buy stock they will buy it in huge quantities because it will sell millions easily. Damn, I know loads of people who hardly even touch a console but they will go out and buy GTA. Some people will buy multiple copies of the game. I only have a PS3 but if I also owned a 360 and/or PC (capable of running it) then I would spend at least £120 buying a copy for each one (I would probably get 1 collector edition) then I'd buy DLC for each one.

GTA is a huge money maker for Rockstar. Yes, the V must cost an absolute fortune to make but they can afford it because GTA sells so well. They will use the profit from V to develop other games and the next GTA game. They wouldn't be where they are if it wasn't for GTA.

OP, £40/$60.

If for example 20 million people buy GTA V and each copy is £45, that is £900,000,000 profit which in $ is $1,400,000,000. In the first month, if they sell 10-15 million copies, that is £675,000,000 right there which is $1,050570000.00 So in the first year, they will be multi billionaires.

They don't get all of that £45. Retailers buy stock from Rockstar who get their money before we even buy it at the shop. I don't know exact numbers but the retailers need to make a profit after tax. They sell the game for £45 (UK) and 20% is deducted for tax so the retailer ends up with £36. Who knows how much they paid per copy so we don't know what profit they make.

Let's say Rockstar gets £30 for each game sold and 20 million people buy it. That's £600,000,000 profit.

Yeah i didn't include the tax though. Either way, they will be multi billionaires in the first six months, forget year. Dan is gonna be one happy baldilocks. biggrin.gif

Several million pounds. With a game like GTA V cost to make doesn't matter as you will make 3 x or more that back in the first few days it's out.

I expect it to make Rockstargames and take two 2 billion dollars in profit by selling 30+ million copies within 1 and a half year which is very likely looking at how rich and wide the game is for God sakes there's deer drinking water.... that you can kill if you so please with a gatling gun and set it on fire with gasoline...... it's gonna make a lot of money
