Now as we all know, GTA V is releasing September 17th for PS3 and Xbox 360, many say it is a silly move with Next generation consoles around the corner and nobody is going to wanna play last Gen games. On the other hand there is a 100million+ install base for current generation consoles...

I believe Rockstar will be doing a port, perhaps even an updated graphic port for PS4 and Nextbox when they launch, they are going to keep it silent though, possibly in the hopes of selling the same person two copies of the same game, I think this is something R* are aiming for.

What do you guys think?

yes of course.

the must sell the game for 4-5 years with big dlcs so they better keep the interest high, also because next gen will is where lot of people will put their money on from this fall.

4TH TIME POSTED IN LIKE 2 HOURS.

They did it with Bully.

I don't see why not, but who cares.. If not it'll be a complete edition coming to the Next Gen.

Nope, there is far more people with this gen consoles, and it will be like that for at least two more years, if the new ones are released by the end of this year.

And Rockstar certainly won't keep the DLC coming after two years.

Yes, but not any time soon.

Can anyone elaborate on why they won't port it? And port it soon?

Honestly, no. They've spent the last five years making this game already, so I'd rather they give us EFLC-quality DLC for V to close out this generation and extend the use of the current engine, then start with a fresh new IP for the next generation, before eventually doing GTAVI next gen. Then maybe after that they can port it. But realistically, they'll probably do something as I stated because I don't see them doing a quick port when they like to perfect their games and they've already put so much work into this.

It won't, or just a port anyways, sometime later in 2014.

The market will be far too small for it to be profitable enough to make a port to next generation consoles.

I doubt it. Why? San Andreas didn't make it onto the Xbox360 or PS3 did it?

I do know SA is in the PS store. But only since December 12 2012, If I'm correct.

Yes, but it wasn't created for that platform. Meaning they didn't change any code or anything, the just stuck it on the virtual store and let us download it.

Sure, PS4 and Xbox3 will be able to play the game through they're respective online stores, but that doesn't mean it's a next gen title.

Wouldn't actually surprise me much if the game was actually being developed for next gen and being ported down.

But either way I REALLY hope we get next gen versions of the game!

They don't have to keep the game interesting for that long, the game will keep itself interesting. Rockstar is most likely not going to do big DLCs in the scale of The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony ever again for a few reasons. They have to invest more time and money for bigger DLCs than for smaller ones which means they can demand more money for their product, the release happens later, thus it's less profitable. Not only this, but I'm absolutely certain that Rockstar will not release add-ons for a particular game for several years, that's totally illogical. Dan Houser himself stated that DLCs for $10 are perhaps more profitable than DLCs for $20.

As for a next-gen version of GTAV, I'm fence-sitting because there are valid reasons that speak for it and there are valid reasons that speak against it. We know so far that the PlayStation 4 and very likely the NextBox are based on the x86-architecture, that's the platform that is also used by PC's. GTAV has been confirmed for two platforms so far, namely PS3 and X360, but like every other game of the series so far, except the GTA Stories games which are Sony-exclusives and the handheld games, the game will eventually release for the PC platform. Considering that the new consoles share the architecture with the PC, a next-gen port seems to be plausible. On the other hand, there are slightly differences in the architecture and nobody knows how big they are exactly. I think that Rockstar would rather work on a next-gen title instead of porting a current-gen title to PS4 and NextBox.

Thats my guess:

We all know that the pc version of GTA IV came a few month later (even a year? idk anymore). So if thats the same case for GTA V, then think a little. The PS4 / Xbox720 and the Pc will be nearly on the same level. So, if they work on the PC version, they will most likely work on the next gen at the same time, because there wont be that much of a difference. I say Next Gen and PC will come in the same date.

And like with GTA IV and the PS3, GTA V will be the only reason why I'll buy the PS4.

When GTA IV released there was only about 30 million consoles in total, and it sold over 20 million PHYSICAL copies.

If it's a straight port it wouldn't actually be that costly considering how much more powerful the new consoles are so they can afford to be sloppy, they don't have to spend another 5 years coding it, they port to PC even though they don't get huge sales there, if they wait perhaps a year after its release they could definitely rack up some big sales I think.

That's recorded on a VERY high end gaming rig.

It could be a from a PS4/Nextbox Dev kit? I doubt it considering that the footage is a little old, and devs probably haven't had long enough to achieve something like that yet, but I think we will see graphics like that on the next generation of consoles it might take a little while before the optimization comes through though.. Imagine what next gen PC games will look like.

You add some more point actually that seem to support what I think is going to go down. I am pretty confident they will do a re-release next gen quite early on.

The ballad of Gay Tony came out after 2 years GTA IV was released on Ps3 and Pc.

Dan Houser himself stated that "Gta had to ne more serious" and they changed the direction with GTA 5.

When Houser said that the dlcs were Xbox 360 exclusive.

GTA IV complete edition is still selling well at an higher price point than Gta 4 standard edition.

From september 2011 to late 2012 GTA IV has sold 3 millions copies. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Theft_A...mercial_success

Do you think GTA V could to the same in 2017 when the next gen will be the main focus for players? with better looking free roaming games like Watch Dogs, Saint's Row 18 and whatever?

With big DLCs on both current and next gen they can sell them for 30 each providing a better experience than the stories episodes on ps2.

I mean a new shorter story, a couple of new features each and a new small portion of the map (1/4 - 1/5)

All with keeping the hype and interest in the product using the same tech of GTA V, keeping the development cheap. Some big games has been doing that for years even without digital delivering(elder scrolls series for example)

Imagine:

2015: GTA V: episodes from San Andreas.

cross gen, stand alone, two campaigns, San Francisco and Las Venturas, 50$ or 60$

also available as stand alone on psn ,xbl and steam

2016-2017: GTA VI

Whilst I would like more huge DLC, you gotta remember that Microsoft gave R* 50 million to develop TBOGT and TLAD, so I dunno if they would do it again.

Considering that GTA San Andreas never made it to the current gen consoles..

I don't think we will get V on next gen, atleast not after 1-2 years, a direct port from the x360 and PS3 versions.

They are perfectionistic at Rockstar.

Sure they'll make it run on next-gen, but they won't do their best tweaking to use the full capability of the next-gen consoles.

If they'd do that, they want it to be perfect, and that takes time.

Time that could be put into making DLCs, which are way more profitable.

My 2 cents.

Get over it, the release after this will be next-gen.
