Would a jail system ruin GTA?

I know everyone's all caught up in the new GTA V info and all so I thought I'd bring up a topic I'v seen some people discussing before.

A prison/jail system.

Some people have been saying it would be cool to have a jailing system where you could break out and get a 4-star wanted level or spend 45 minutes in jail and then get out.

But wouldn't that ruin the game?

I mean, the thing we love most about GTA is that we can relax at the expense of the lives of random NPCs, without real fear of cops, unless we're doing it for an achievement or a challenge or whatever.

Seriously though, a jailing system would get so annoying and so boring after the first time, I'm cool with maybe ...A prison break mission or side-mission or something, but just once, not every time I get caught or die.

Take a game like Mafia II or Sleeping Dogs for example, the cops in there are a pain in the ass, and are NOT fun.

You can't pull a GTA-like rampage or have a fun play session in Mafia II, cause the cops are so annoying, and it prevents you from doing fun things just cause you don't wanna go through the process.

So, does anyone here agree that a prison system would suck/potentially ruin GTA?

Yes, Yes it would.

Major, Game breaking flaws have been pointed out in it time and time again, They will, Again, be pointed out this time as well.

Yes it would ruin the game and I think "45" minutes in jail is possibly the most ridiculous suggestion ever posted on the forum and whoever's idea that was should be banned for life for even having that thought thought up.

Dude I didn't even come close to coming up with it.

If you read carefully, I'm saying it would shove a massive -MALE GENITALIA- down the throat of everything we love about GTA.

EDIT: Did you ...Edit your post? Cause I swear I saw you saying I should be banned.

Scaletta, clean that urinal! *10 seconds of scrubbing later* Alright clean that other urinal! I kind of hated the Prison in Mafia 2, despite it being one of my favorite games, the prison bit took the absolute piss (lol).

If we have a few missions in prison in GTA V that would be pretty cool, but please don't make it as slow paced as Mafia 2.

Because GTA V is fun and prison/jail is designed to be the exact opposite of that. Nobody wants to waste their time in jail in real life, why would we want it in a game, that's meant to be entertaining. If you want to sit in a concrete barred cell and clean toilets that badly i'd recommend Mafia II.

What if it was a jail that one of your protagonists goes to, then one of your others comes and busts him out? Now we're talking some GTA fun.

Then there's a segment where you get to crawl through an airduct and Solid Snake it across the yard. Some real potential here. People are assuming something when they have no reason to assume it.

Honestly, cleaning toilets in jail would be more fun than some missions in GTAs past.

I don't think the team that added in two slow motion abilities and one double damage one is all that concerned with implementing jail because realism.

There will be no fuel except if you're using it as a weapon, there will be no hunger, there will be no bills, there will be no taking the kids to soccer practice, no doing your taxes, no jail, no having to go grocery shopping or else your family starves, no having to take your wife out to chick flicks, and no having to do laundry.

I would say go play the sims, but the sims does not simulate jail or car fuel or taxes. You don't even have the ability to make your guy do taxes. Even the sims doesn't want to go that nuts.

But, maybe one game would go that nuts. One that I think will satisfy all of your weird little desires of getting virtual gas and eating virtual food.

Yes, it's mafia III. So don't worry, you'll probably get to pay bills in a crime game. Just not GTA.

Repeating myself here but I don't feel it would ruin the game if they gave you an option/ and or you could leave whenever you like, it doesn't have to be like real jail with strict rules and lockdown they could have prison gangs like LA EME and side missions doing hits and smuggling drugs in etc.

Not sure we will see it but I'd be all for it.

I liked the Prison in Saints Row 2, Break-out the first mission and going back to explore it. The Correctional Facility in IV was dead. I had fun playing in it as a multiplayer map for deathmatch but that was it. The Prison was so dead and no fun to explore.

A supermax prison sounds fun only if you can blow the walls down and crash into the gate.

There are some fan suggestions that R* should not listen to. Another example is how some people thought it would be fun for cars to run on gas, and that we should fill it up. Nobody thinks it's fun to refill gas in real life, why would we want to do it in GTA?

I have read EVERY EXCUSE EVER, so here we go.

"It would make police chases more exciting and tense if you could run out of gas."

"It's not a big deal, you wouldn't have to fill up that often."

"You can just steal another car."

"REALIZUM!!!111!!!111"

Pick one and tear it apart. Better yet, pick them all and tear them all apart. I'd like to see yet another person tear this sh*t down. I say "Yet another person" because we are in fact part of the majority on this.

For other reasons why they want cars to run on gas. So the people we race run out of it and get pissed as we pass them laughing. I am against the gas idea btw, but if there was gas than you have to admit that would be great when racing or being chased by cars!

Well if you want more intense chases, why not just make the police more aggressive and intelligent?

It wouldn't make chases intense, just frustrating. Imagine if you have 4 or 5 stars in the middle of nowhere. If you run out of gas, you're sh*t of luck as the vastly improved police would surround you and then annihilate you.

I like chases the way they are, but maybe the police a little bit more faster and with the cars also a bit more controlled better. It was hard and frustrating enough going down the streets of Liberty City in IV with a Infernus and crashing into every freaking car that would change lanes right at the damn light...

I think a stint inside for one of them would be good if it was part of the story, like for example say Michael goes down for x amount of time, during that time (untill the other two have got to xx mission) you can just play the other two's story, or do some missions inside using Michael, prehaps gaining some extra missions once he is out or a new property w/e.

If it was in-grained in the game to the point if you get nicked too many times during free roam you gotta do time, it would ruin the fabric of GTA!

**Edit** If they did that, they may as well make you meet the dude you punched in the face then stole his car, and have a "remorse" mini game where you need to appear as sorry as possible, and listen to his little story (cutscene) about how he lost his job because he can no longer leave the house since his ordeal, so his wife left him taking the kids..the (other) car and the dog, then there is a final mini game where you need to comfort this fully grown man that has had his life crushed (by you) and is crying like a child, physically shaking! If you succeed you just get a fine, and you can then be on your way to create carnage on the streets of LS. This happens every single time you get arrested........ wow.giftounge.gif

I think a cool non-intrusive system should go like this. You would get a five or ten second long, fast forwarded time lapse of your character in a jail cell just walking around, sleeping, eating, etc.

I agree. I mean, some games are known for unfair difficulty, but GTA shouldn't be one of them. Or at least something known to balance challenge and cakewalks.

If this combined with having to go to jail were implemented, we'd have what is universally considered to be the worst GTA in the series.

Now, I think R* might put it as a real-time event of a car somewhere running out of gas and you have to pick up a lady and take her to the gas station to fill up and whether you want to decide to not take her to the gas station, take her to the gas station but steal her thing of gas and burn her and her car or just give the poor lady a favor. That should be the only gas in GTA V. Also the ability to blow up gas stations!

Well since gas stations could be blown up in IV and gas is now a liquid fire weapon, I'm sure we'll be able to do that.

Although I'd probably just run over the old lady.

GTA2 had a jail mission, and RDR had a jail system. It depends on implementation rather than a flat out NO.

If going to jail is going to be tedius that detracts from fluid gameplay (eg: mandatory wait times), it's going to be not fun.

Ideas for a workable jail system:

- Option to pay an immediate fine/bail/bribe and walk out of there (no different from the current jail system except you spawn in a cell ready to press X to pay instead out outside already paid up)

- Option to keep the character in there for 1-20 minutes (depending on severity of rap sheet) so long as he still doesn't pay in the mean time (and is free to play as another character in that time)

- Option to break out internally (mini game/malee)

- Option to have another character come bust him out (with only moderate difficulty, maybe there will be a wall easily toppled and then kill the guards).

- Cops seize the last car you were in that was modded/rare before you got busted, so you can re-steal it from there.

- Cops seize your weapons/drugs/cloths you were wearing, which you can steal/bribe back

- Unlockables in game including getting a lawyer who can get you out for cheaper/free and/pr get items back for free

If there was an option to pay an immediate bail/bribe and walk out of there, that is not a problem, or, the player could elect to keep the character in there for up to 20 minutes so long as he still doesn't pay (and is free to play as another character in the mean time), or, the player can choose to break out internally (mini game/malee) and have another character come bust him out (with only moderate difficulty, maybe there will be a wall easily toppled and then kill the guards).
