So just how much did Rockstar reveal today?

Just wanted to share this. A representative of Rockstar that oversaw the previews told GTAV.net earlier today:

It was a fine line, but we managed to carve out a tiny slice, talk about the fundamental changes to mechanics, and keep pretty much the entire game a secret. As it should be. It’s not about lists of features, it’s about the being able to hear about the world’s mechanics, look at a few screens or some video of gameplay (and as always, it’s almost all gameplay) and imagine the possibilities.

Wish I could see some gameplay and not just trailers, but I guess ill have to wait to get a copy of the game.

I understand that you're not seeing over-the-shoulder and a HUD, or the character switching - but large portions of the trailers was game play footage (and not cut-scenes). Of course, it was captured in a way similar to the video editor in the PC version of IV.

There's this myth that GTA trailers are made up of cut-scene footage - which is not entirely true.

I was just absolutely surprised with all the info from today. I'm really excited about the heists and planning them out. But I think this will probably be it. Now I guess we wait till after e3 for the multiplayer info but to be honest single player is just fantastic.

I would say they have only shown us 1/4 of the game

I doubt it's even that much.

What does he mean by the entire game is still kept secret? We know that there will be missions based off personal conflicts, heists and whatnot...we know features, mechanics, vehicles, areas of the city etc. What exactly is the big secret here? Is it the multiplayer or is there more to singleplayer that they won't tell us until near release?

I sort of FEEL like we've seen the whole game [except the missions and story and multiplayer] but I am hoping that I am wrong on that and that there is a lot more to everything. I'd love your thoughts on this Adriaan.

Yeah I'm confused by that statement as well.

I'm not sure how you can feel this way. We've seen so little of the map, hardly scratched the surface when it comes to weapons and vehicles (which we know is the most yet in a GTA game).

We know so little of the full experience which, yes, the map, missions, side missions, dynamic world event missions (like in RDR) are made up of - among other things.

Not to mention, we don't really know anything about multiplayer.

At least, that's the way I feel about things.

I followed everything they put out before RDR's release, and there were many unique experiences and surprises when I played the game.

I hardly think we know as much as you make it out to be - especially when you said we know about vehicles.

I guess that's true. We know a bit more about what we can do, but we don't know how or why. We still have little more than the barest concept of a plot or characters (Michael seems like the only one we know anything about, and it isn't even that much). We don't know how we can acquire property or change our character, only that it's possible. We haven't seen a huge amount of the city or the towns. We've only seen a handful of new vehicles and weapons. The mechanics are there, but the content is still a big mystery.

you know it's funny. when IV was being released they seemed to say the same thing. that most of the game would be a secret until release. Only when it was released i don't think there was much in the game that i didn't know about before hand not including the story. hope this isn't the same with V.

What I notice, is that the pictures released showing the rural regions of the game are taken from the same places but only from a different angle. Either the rural region is condensed and it's not that big or they just do not want to show too much. I'm sure it's the second suggestion. I mostly care for the map and the little details that bring the world to life (e.g, how pedestrians interact and behave), because I'm a man of immersion. That's why I didn't find the recent previews not interesting to read overall except for the parts that go into how lively the world is, visually and behaviorally.

Well, I hope you're right! I'm definitely excited as heck for this game and would love to be surprised in a pleasant manner once I get to play it. I hope it keeps us interested for atleast 3 years.

There was definitely too much info on IV. We had already seen almost every boss that Niko had. We knew the story wouldn't have a particularly happy ending ("It's not a rags to riches story"). We read about the minigames, and the environments. We were shown a good bit of missions (the interview, call and collect, No. 1, Deconstruction for Beginners, and even Roman's kidnapping got mentioned in Edge.)

Yes, almost every innovative mission was spoiled for us, leading us to think the game would be filled with those.

It was enough to make you struggle to get your head around all the changes they've made, and make you wonder how it will all fit into your own time playing the game. But what they didn't show - and what no preview or journalist can express - is that 'world in motion' effect that is part of a GTA gameworld. I think that is more than half of what you get when you play GTA.

There will be, yes. They did say they'll talk about the multiplayer in the future. I also imagine, as in the past, that there will be hands-on previews closer to release (where publications have a chance to play the game themselves).

It will be hard to fathom, but before release we only knew about 15% of what GTAIV had to offer. And about 8% of that was revealed because the game leaked a week and a half before release.

They did not reveal a whole lot imo. They revealed what they wanted to. Small bits from what we've seen from the trailers I read in the previews. I think we only scratched the surface.

I think they have it bang on really, they give us all of the juicy details which we want to know, without ruining it by showing us the game running as it will when we purchase it.

It's the same people who complain about the lack of information who then declare that the game has been 'ruined by too much info'

There's a choice not to read it, but I think that it only helps to build hype and make me want to play even more

Not even that. We saw a fraction of downtown Los Santos and the Alamo Sea. Remember this map is 3,5 times bigger then the RDR map. 5 if you count underwater in.

That's great, also GTA IV had 3 previews if I remember correctly. Also the hands on demo would be awesome given the fact that they can't really tell us how to driving, shooting mechanism feels if they didn't play the game themselves.

Thats how i am too. I like to hear the most about what R* does best and it is the immense detail they put in that drives the feeling of immersion. The CVG video did a great job of describing this and i could tell they had the same feeling about what makes a gta game great just by how much they paid attention to those visual and behavioural details. I could find out most of the mechanics and features but it is

still not going to spoil it for me imo because that awe and discovery of a new gta game can only really be felt and conveyed by being in that world yourself and playing it.

I like that they said they have kept the game a secret mostly. That actually scares me a bit on how much is there, but also might defer fans who read the previews, thinking that's all they've got to offer...

The trailers are mostly cut-scenes, how can they not be when characters are interacting with each other. Gameplay is driving and shooting, with glorified angles. But every time somebody speaks, cut-scene. So it's a fair balance. I would rather this though than say Final Fantasy and AC, where the cut-scenes are fully animated and look amazing but when playing its looks 4 times worse.

At least the cut-scenes from Rockstar are the same graphically than gameplay, which allows for camera transitions seamlessly between a cutscene and playing, which we've seen before. It just adds so much more.

They have shown us pretty much all of downtown which is kind of sh*tty. Other than that I'm sure there is alot they have kept from us.

All the guys who think we have see pretty much everything are basing it off of GTA IV. So far what we have seen from V is more than everything that IV had to offer. So it feels like they showed us everything.

I am still concerned that we have seen way too much of the map, CVG even stated the map created in the mapping Los santos topic is really accurate. Which wouldn't be the case if we hasn't seen most of it. I know there are some hidden areas to the north but I doubt that downtown will hold any surprises.
