And If I recall correctly, Rockstar cannot make the game have a required install. Microsoft won't let games have mandatory installs because they sell crappy little 4GB systems.

Wrong. Forza motorsport had this.

Even if MS had a requirement like "no mandatory installs" they would change it for this game.

Rockstar: We need to allow users to install otherwise they would have to swap discs during gameplay which would make the game not fun and we wouldn't be able to release the game on the 360.

Microsoft: You wouldn't be able to bring the GoTD on our system? Ok we will change the policy.

I don't know why this is a discussion topic anyways. It's a no brainer.

A bluray disc (which PlayStation 3 uses) can hold 25 GB in a single layer configuration. The Xbox 360 disc can hold 7.8 GB of information, GTA V is definitely larger than 7.8 GB. I am pretty sure this game will require at least close to 16 GB of information, making it likely the Xbox 360 game will cover at least 2 discs.

I'm not a 360 player, but as far as I know the vast majority of 360s are no longer the HDD-less Core version. I heard the vast majority of those red-ringed years ago (so much that Kotaku ran an article about people who still had that version). That leaves the Arcade version, which has half a gig, but that's been discontinued as well. This means that virtually every system sold after 2010 had an HDD. Some quick research shows that the majority of the 75 million 360s sold was done after 2010. I can understand that 360 games might not have mandatory installations, but since the majority of the 360s owned has an HDD why is this a problem at all? It might mean annoying DVD switching for those HDD-less that still remain, but for the majority it would mean the normal install that every modern 360 game probably has. How many of you still have a 360 without a meaningful HDD?

It was always a high possibility and the 360 version will be at least 2 discs.

My 360 didn't come with a HDD. I had to buy it myself. I have 2 HDDs. I have a white Xbox 360 Arcade from October of 2009. I'm sure I should have no problems with the game. Hopefully not anyway.

I was amazed when I found out that GTA IV fit on one 360 disc. It's exactly half the size of the PC version!!

Again...why does it matter? If you don't want to swap discs then don't lol.

Don't you think after today, it's about time to get rid of that stupid 'info crying baby' sig? C'mon man, the joke was killed a very, very long time ago.

Ot: I honestly couldn't care less as I'm planning on getting the game for both consoles. But I suppose it would still be nice if the Xbox version had minimal discs as possible.

Why does everybody keep forgetting that 360 has an "install game data" option?

because not all xboxes have a hard drive - that's why even if there is a full install option, they will still have to cater for the aformentioned users

Its not going to be more than 2 disks. I even doubt its going to need 2. This thread is just to sh*t on 360.

Probably will be on multiple disks. With regards to downloading though isn't their the issue with the arcade version of the xbox with the small HD?

Even if that is the case though, it shouldn't be difficult to have the map on both disks with the missions split between the two so you simply change once halfway through the story, but can access the whole map on either disk.

It's so easy to think this about threads of this kind. But the thing is you should be blaming Microsoft and not the OP. They made the 360 to play DVD9 that is their fault and no one else. If people criticize them for it, it's inevitable.

It's not just about sh*tting on the 360.

If I could be bothered posting a facepalm meme, I would. But I can't be bothered.

I'm purchasing the PS3 version solely for storyline and the fact it appears to be the only platform where it'll be one disc required.

I'm also purchasing the Xbox version solely for MP as most of my friends game on the 360.

I clearly said, that for the sake of Xbox-only gamers, I hope there are minimal discs possible. Reading comprehension is clearly not one of your strong attributes I see.

Just because a game has a large world, lots of features & great graphics does not mean it actually takes up alot of space to require multiple discs.

Features & story missions is largely just maths. Cutscenes are also just maths because it's rendered in real time in most of R*s games.

It's generally only audio that takes up the most space.

One way Rockstar may do it to have one disc to play & an other disc with bunch of radio stations which you can install if you choose.

So for anyone worrying, there is no way this game will require the player to swap discs when traversing the world.

One disc. Believe me XBOX Brothers.

I would love to believe that too but I have to side with the "2-disc" group (Install and Play). I have a 4-GB 360 and just stick a short 8GB flash drive on the back of the Xbox to install and play Forza 3, No big deal. I play L.A. Norie and it wasn't too annoying to swap disc since I treat the disc as three different games. The problem when having to swap disc in a game like GTA, it breaks that smooth continuous gameplay. It's almost as bad as when an action game pauses to switch weapon.

BTW, dose Multiplayer that up that much space on the disc? Someone told me that MP contents could be a download on GTAV since gamers have to be online to play MP anyways.

Compression.

Game at most will be two discs. 1 for SP, 1 for MP. Probably just one.

1 whole disc for MP sigh.gif You don't know what you're talking about.... Multiplayer for a game like gta will only take aprox 100mb, I don't know the exact number, but it won't be much...

The map is the exactly the same, the only data MP uses is some different gamemodes/character looks (which will probably also in SP so won't take any extra data and uhmmmm and that's about it. So 100% no extra disc for mp.

Glad to see i'm not the only one who cares about changing a disc for 10 seconds. It's the only complaint I keep hearing that I genuinely couldn't give a f*ck about to be honest, I don't or never have seen the big deal.

I think I'd actually prefer it to be on multiple discs, that way at least we know it's filled with content - or at least quality content! biggrin.gif

My guess: 2 discs.

I'm not sure why people get so worked up about the possibility of multiple discs; it only means more content. It's hardly a chore to switch discs, especially if you only need to do it once in the course of a 50+ hour game. I plan to pick up V for PS3, but only because it is my console-of-choice, not because it requires fewer discs. Hell, one of my first systems was PSone, which introduced the whole idea of multiple discs with games like Metal Gear Solid and Gran Turismo! lol.gif

In any case, I'd rather swap discs that have the audio files compressed within an inch of their life.

No way will it be more than two disks. Probably only one.

But if it is two Rockstar will probably set it up so you can optionally install at least part of the game. And even if you don't or can't install it, the game will still be done in such a way as to minimise disk swaps, probably only once during the course of the whole story maybe.

Common sense really.

But the problem is not every xbox has the space requirements for that, thanks to MS making arcade models.

2 Discs.

Disc 1 - Installation - Installs the entire map, most of the audio ect.

Disc 2 - Missions and Multiplayer - Plays/Installs all individual missions and multiplayer features.

Then just leave disc two in permanently.

Thats what i'm predicting.

Who cares.... Halo4 MP needed 10 gb hdd space to play it ( installing it). U never had to switch discs.

R* will make the exact same thing if the data is too big. So no disc swapping at all
