roryhynes
A) Make map an island surrounded by infinite sea B) Land at edge of map with invisible walls to stop the player C) Land with impossible to cross mountains at edges (RDR did this iirc) Which would you rather have? Mister Pink
RDR actually feels like you are playing in a SANDBOX. You are reminded it's a game by being locked in. In GTA V, you wont feel like you a stuck in a box, but you'll have total freedom and a sense that there's something beyond... It's moronic to want to be locked-in, in a GTA. Some people just blow my mind. RUBBΣR░J♢HNNY (スオッ)

GR7
For all the people dissapointed that it's not landlocked, I made an example a while back on why it was a terrible Idea in the first place. Landlock worked fine in RDR because John couldn't swim or fly but in GTAV where the player has so much freedom it seems like a bad idea. boxmonster
The Southern California Coast could be warped and wrapped around the whole map so that might be how the island is formed, it'll also help explain why the Alamo Sea is north of LS (when the Salton Sea is south of LA irl). Shoumaker
To no surprise I have to agree with most people on this thread unfortunately OP. Every GTA game map has consisted of an island and I'm glad V is no different to be perfectly honest. I believe you were looking for endless mountains or the desert? It's basically the same concept so if it ain't broke don't fix it. I wouldn't have really cared either way though.
Cosmic Gypsy
Very disappointed at this news but now i know car customization, property buying and character customization is in i'm not too bothered and i'll let rockstar slide on this one. Why are you very disappointed it's an island? As long as there is a world outside the city there really isn't anything to be disappointed about. Only reason people had a problem with GTA IV being an island was because it was purely city, with absolutely no country side any where to be seen, a floating city in the middle of the ocean is ridiculous. However, an island with a city, multiple towns and vast country side is far less ridiculous.
