Grand Theft Savage
Don't know if has been discussed before. Lock if it has. Do you think they used some of the technology from L.A Noire to give the characters better facial expressions. You can really see it in Michael's trailer when he's talking to his therapist. But I guess you could say that L.A Noire's facial expressions were 'stronger.' Do you think R* did it? That would definitely push the consoles to their limit... I'm definitely expecting more than 2 discs on Xbox now.
yonatan755
i heard that they didn't i didn't liked L.A NOIRE. felt too repetetive and boring because allways same sh*t happens, i quited in the middle, when i was about to find the real guy.

Remi749
If I'm not mistaken, they dropped it out, mainly because of the huge amount of disk space they took up...
Afly94
I would say that GTA V graphics in terms of physics have significantly imrpoved way better than GTA IV, I remember GTA IV's graphics as very slow blocky, and in terms of GTA V the animations is faster and much more detail with advanced lighting system
Plainview
Takes up way to much disk space. sh*t, I heard they had to drop an entire desk because it would have made the game require two blurays.
Lil ski
What ever it is, it looks good! Better than IVs that's for sure! In IV, peoples facial expression and non cut-scene talking was soo stiff and robotic (I remember in TBOGT, I was dancing with this chick in the club and I guess the game intended to give her a happy face but what it turned out to be was a really oogly ass Charlie brown cartoon looking grin!) Also I can tell the free roam faces will be just as good. Just look at grandpap's face when Trevor is choking his ass out for no reason! (and dont tell me thats a cut scene) Edited May 2, 2013 by Lil ski

98 in 1
pre rendered cutscenes GTA games never use prerendered cutscenes. All of them are in game.
d3ex2
They already said it doesn't use the face capture technologies from LA Noire.
Redwood Cigarettes
NO. L.A. Noire was such a big game (multiple discs on 360) simply because of the facial animation. The whole point of that was to show off a new technology, it was viable to do it on the scale of LA Noire but console technology isn't ready for something the scale of a GTA game with those depths of facial animation. It is also very costly and time consuming. Maybe for the next GTA game. But for GTA V. No.
Forzum
It could however be Speech Graphics which requires much less than L.A Noire's face recognition tech. On twitter they follow Rockstar Games and Chris Oat, Lead Designer at Rockstar Games. http://www.speech-graphics.com/ Doubt it tho.
AZAZEL
They didn't 'drop it out' - I doubt it was ever considered to be used in a GTA game, at least not in the nearest future. The technology made sense in L.A. Noire as it had a purpose - reading faces.
jamieleng
While the LA Noire IP stayed at R*, that tech was retained by Team Bondi. Anyway, it looks nothing like MotionScan. The cutscenes (which use the in-game engine) look more like Max Payne 3's, than LA Noire's. MotionScan was being used in the recently shelved 'Whore of the Orient'. Better luck next time Brendan, you big fat bully.
Finn 7 five 11
I am 100% certain this is animations, not mo-capping, and like stated, they already said it wasn't. I am glad they have improved facials (lol) since IV, quite a lot actually. Didn't know where to put it...Anyone else reckon he sounds like Michael J Fox when he says... alex3
L.A Noire's motion scan was nice, apart from the hair looked like it was glued to the head.
BigKush
I believe they have learned a great deal about the believable portrayal of personality and emotion in their characters, but the L.A. Noire facial animation tech is on the shelf at this point as far as Rockstar's public projects are concerned. EDIT: Also, as others have said, MotionScan belongs to bastard McNamara and whoever's still left on his 'team' at this point. Mokrie Dela
It's clearly not LA Noire's tech. It's an improvement over the previous games, yes, but I can clearly see it's still fish-mouth, as some words don't match the mouth movements. It never really bothered me in IV - but for it to be improved... Michael's looking to be the most intriguing character for me, and he looks the most convincing. Lil ski - when he said doc i too thought of Sheen, but i'm not saying it's him! The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing. Rockstar doesn't own the MotionScan technology, that was retained by Team Bondi, which was then sold to KMM Interactive. Michael is very charismatic, and his similarity to two very charismatic people is testament to that. @jamieleng: No need to apologise, bud! Just clarifying my viewpoint. It does sound a lot like I was talking about it being Rockstar's tech.
